I've been biten the last few nights by something and its not dh. I am completely paranoid its bed bugs as I have a bit of a fear of them! I have checked the mattress for signs and looked on bed slats and under the carpet. I have a number of very itchy but tiny spots and the kids have had a couple each too. We do have a cat that hasn't been de flead for a while but I. The past we have always seen the fleas, but I haven't seen a flea in the house for years. Dh thinks I've lost the plot! Does anyone reckon it could be bed bugs or am I being OTT?

I think the tell-tale sign is 3 bites in a row.

Is that what you have?

flanneryann · 10/04/2015 19:59

Well sort of, but only on my abdomen. I have random scattered ones on arm and thighs. The bites, if that's what they are, are tiny but extremely itchy.

Sound like fleas.

Madeyemoodysmum · 10/04/2015 20:05

Warm weather may have hatched eggs.

Fleas also bite in rows.

I had a bedbug scare recently and had the exterminator guy round from the council. He thought our matresses were clean so no evidence of them, and we checked all the nooks and crannies with a torch, without finding anything. He suggested we treat for fleas first and see if that sorted it, and it did. The fact that 3 of you all in different bedrooms got bitten around the same time, I think makes it v unlikely it's bedbugs.

My mum also said that whenever they'd had bedbugs as children, her dad had always checked in all the seams and cracks around the bedand had always found the bug. They are bigger than fleas.

When we had bed bugs we found tiny blood brown spots on bed sheets, they were behind head board and under frame. So I would have a good look.
Very grim. Was bitten loads and took 2 visits from pest control to get rid!
We reckon we got them after going on holiday, brought them back in our bedding. Have you been away, got any new furniture, just moved in?
Alternatively, it's been warmer recently, have you had window open, something could have come in that way?

ilovechristmas1 · 10/04/2015 20:08

i think it's fleas, why dont you flea comb the cat and see, even if you have no comb if the cat has light coloured fur it will be easy to see fleas or flea dirt

peacoat · 10/04/2015 20:08

Unlikely to be bedbugs if they are randomly assorted.

Flossyfloof · 10/04/2015 20:12

You don't always see fleas and it has been pretty mild recently. De flea the cat and treat the house with a flea bomb.
