To ask how many moles you have

Lovemelikeyoudo · 09/04/2015 18:39

Are they all the same? Do you have any atypical moles?

OP posts:
MangoJuggler · 09/04/2015 18:47

Are you concerned about a mole, if so show your GP.

Royalsighness · 09/04/2015 18:48

I have one that appeared after I did an all day dance carnival when I was a child. It's never changed shape or anything and it's quite small so it doesn't worry me.

confused79 · 09/04/2015 18:49

I have two that appeared after I had my kids. The one on my palm for when I was pregnant with my son, and the one on my belly for when I was pregnant with my daughter Grin

TwoOddSocks · 09/04/2015 18:49

I have mainly normal moles, my DH has loads including quite a few atypical ones. In Germany the dermatologist was very clear this puts him at increased risk of melanoma and he should keep a mole map with pictures of all atypical moles and have a full check up every year. Obviously the routine dermatologist check up probably wouldn't be available in the UK but I'd still do the mole map and insist on getting anything suspect (i.e. any changing or new mole) checked up on ASAP. Melanoma's needs to be caught very very early.

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 09/04/2015 18:51

Thought this was about the bloody garden nuicences. Grin

My dh is covered and had them checked yearly by the consultant. We have photos of the big ones so can see if they change.

We have an interesting life!

Go up your GP if you are at all worried op. Don't mess around.

Maladicta · 09/04/2015 18:53

Going by the normal definition of mole, about 40. Photos of all just in case, three removed and never go uncovered in sun.

Sallystyle · 09/04/2015 18:58

Well I used to call them beauty spots but I guess they are moles.

If so I have (I am trying to count here!) 30 on my arms. I have a very dark one on my lower back (always getting it checked) a scattering of light ones on my shoulders and maybe a few on my upper back. I have two tiny ones on my legs.

I am obsessed with skin cancer but this is the first time I have actually tried to count them.

They are all normal looking and small, except one which looks like a fried egg but that has been there for 10 plus years and never changed.

tilliebob · 09/04/2015 19:04

None. DH has about 10. Haven't spotted any on the dcs yet.

Anomaly · 09/04/2015 19:09

I have so many! DH is covered so I expect our DC will end up as moley as you can get! It fascinates me how they just seem to appear.

MamainMilan · 09/04/2015 19:14

Lots, and lots, and lots… I have had a mole map thing done and I try to keep an eye on them.

I had two removed years ago, and I wouldn't dream of sunbathing now.

I get nervous about them sometimes.

Mandatorymongoose · 09/04/2015 19:23

I don't know. Lots?

The bigger ones I keep an eye on and I'd hopefully notice any significant changes. The little ones I'm not so sure about.

DH also has lots and has had a couple removed although they turned out to be fine.

DS (2) has already got two.

ManicPixieDream · 09/04/2015 19:26

I've got loads. I do worry about them actually. How do you arrange mole map? Is it something a GP can refer you for?

ragged · 09/04/2015 19:28

Tonnes & tonnes. I never worry about them. Don't think any would qualify as 'atypical'.

Unescorted · 09/04/2015 19:29

Loads...

CaptainAnkles · 09/04/2015 19:33

I have so many I can't count them all but they're more like freckles than moles, I think. They're flat brown specks rather than raised. I get new ones every summer.

Longdistance · 09/04/2015 19:34

I'm covered in moles too. I especially like the one under my left eye on the top of my cheek bone, it's one of my features.

I have another huge one on my tummy, that matches my mums Grin

I did get one checked out, as it appeared as a new one on my back. Doc thought it was fine, but to keep an eye on it.

Hassled · 09/04/2015 19:36

I've had a couple iffy ones removed (they were fine). It was no problem - local anaesthetic and a couple of dissolvable stitches. If you're at all worried, then please get it checked out - it's not a big deal.

EponasWildDaughter · 09/04/2015 19:57

Q. What's the difference (if any) between a mole and a freckle please?

Dontunderstand01 · 09/04/2015 20:01

I have hundreds... I worry about them a lot as I seem to get new ones all the time, and my boobs have loads on them which arrived while I pregnant, which is a bit weird! I did once get referred to a skin doctor, but he dismissed me after examining just one! He was really rude and made me feel like I was wasting his time.

18yearstooold · 09/04/2015 20:06

Loads, I've got 34 on my right forearm, never mind the rest of my body

I've got 8 that I keep an eye on and have photos of them so I can keep an eye on them

I'm waiting to have one removed off my throat and I've had one taken off my shoulder -that one wasn't bad but i'm dreading having my throat done

Shoulder was benign, they think the one on the throat is too but it's a precaution

TormundsMember · 09/04/2015 20:07

I think I have 22 (just counted). Most are tiny brown dots but five of them are pink and raised. None atypical.

DH has absolutely loads! He's never seen a GP about them or had them mapped though.

peacefuleasyfeeling · 09/04/2015 20:22

Covered.

musicinspring1 · 09/04/2015 20:23

I have lots. I see my lovely GP once a year and he looks at them and keeps track of them on his computer for me (measurements and descriptions ). Job done and one less thing to worry about. Obviously I'd go in if I noticed changes etc before my check was due.

onemississippi · 09/04/2015 20:23

A guy I used to know went to see his GP as he had a mole on his penis. He had it removed but the doctor warned him if it happened again he would inform the RSPCA.

Sorry Wink

Charlotte3333 · 09/04/2015 20:26

Quite a lot especially on my back and arms. DH says the one between my shoulder blades has changed shape recently, and it's been feeling sore so I'm at the Dr's with it next Monday. No idea what GP will do; probably say "Oh you could try and lose a stone, see if that helps" like he did with the lady-garden problems (which turned out to be dyskaryosis needing treatment).

I'd always say get checked out even if you have a minor worry. Better to be overly aware than unaware.
