to drop out of going to this party?

party is this weekend, it's a charity do type thing so there is a ticket price which I've already paid (less than £10 so not worried about losing that). Also it's fancy dress. Am not overly keen on fancy dress and have no outfit prepped (entirely my fault, I've just not got round to sorting anything out). That said, if it came to it, I could cobble something together.

However I'm not really sure if I can be bothered. Which I know sounds terrible. I'm meant to be going with a group of friends - they will all be in couples apart from me (my 'significant other' is away with his DC). So I will feel a bit left out I expect.

One couple (let's call them couple A) live near me so I'm getting a lift with them as it's at least a 2hr journey by public transport compared to about half an hour by car. They'll be drinking so are staying over at the house of others (couple B) who are going, I'm invited to do so as well. I'm just feeling a bit 'meh' about it all. I was originally staying with couple C, who are my closest friends of the group, but according to the last message I got from them, couple A have arranged for us to stay with B instead. I don't really know couple B, have never been to their house let alone stayed there! I'd rather stay with C, but C have said they've not got anywhere to sleep ready for me or any food, so I should stay with B. Plus I'd be concerned if I did stay with B, couple A would up and leave the next morning and I'd lose out on a lift. That said, I've not heard from couple A at all (nor have C) about what time they're getting there etc, so it's possible they may have a change of plan and not go, which then leaves me with no lift and nowhere to stay. Public transport finishes early there so I wouldn't be able to get home that night myself, and a taxi would be £50 or more.

I've sent a couple of texts and emails to couple A but so far no reply. Am minded to just pull out if I don't hear anything by tonight, not just because of the uncertain arrangements but because it's something I'm not that bothered about going to..WIBU?

It all sounds a bit too up in the air with no actual firm arrangements in place.

It'a a no from me, have a relaxing weekend instead.

I'd wait and see if couple A contact you. You won't affect anyone really if you were to pull out at the last minute, in the sense of no one relying on you for a lift etc. In sure they will miss your company.

If couple A don't get back to you before sat they are being a bit rude, but it does sound like it's all sorted, so they may not feel a rush to contact you about it all.

I wouldn't go.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much hassle.

MrsFlannel · 08/04/2015 12:11

OOoh yanbu! I couldn't be bothered with all that....especially staying where I'm not happy.

viva100 · 08/04/2015 12:34

Sounds like too much hassle. I'd hate not knowing where I'm going to sleep, who and when will give me a ride. If I were 19, I'd probably go. But as an adult with better things to do, I absolutely wouldn't. I would make something up and not go. Or just say I'm not going and that's it, depending on whether they're the kind of people who would take offence at the truth.

We're all in our 40s, I'm definitely too old not to know where I'm sleeping!

I'm the only one with DC, not sure if that makes a difference, I think possibly I'm more organised and they just go with the flow.

I'm reluctant to leave it to the last minute because of the fancy dress aspect, if they call Sat and say they're picking me up in a couple of hours I won't have time to organize an outfit. And if I do sort an outfit, and then don't go, that seems rather a waste of time!

Oh I FEEL your pain. Decide now that tomorrow or Friday you will be 'going down with something' so you won't be up to going. Not only do you get a nice relaxing Saturday night all to yourself (bliss) but you gain a couple of days now NOT worrying about it. Win win!

Wine Cake for Saturday!
