I'd like to make some crispy cakes with ds1, but want something a bit new. We've done marshmallows and dried fruit to death - any other ideas please? And would you rather use rice crispies or cornflakes?

In what way is this an AIBU?

Here goes - chop up five standard Mars Bars and cube five oz butter. Melt together gently. I use the microwave on half power. Give everything a really good stir together. Mix in 3 1/2 oz rice crispies. Press into lined square or rectangular tin or form into individual cakes in paper cases. Decorate with chocolate chips or whatever you like while still warm (so the decoration sticks) or with melted chocolate when cold. Chill until firm. Cut into squares. We did nests with mini eggs for Easter.

World's healthiest recipe - not!

My Mum's recipe is still my favourite and is usually doubled or quadrupled.
1 level tbsp Cocoa, 1 tbsp golden syrup, 1 tbsp sugar, 1oz marg but I use butter, heat gently till the sugar has dissolved add 2oz cornflakes mix well and spoon into cases. I don't think they need any fripperies.

Who made you the thread police?

Rice crispies, bar of plain chocolate, small amount of butter. Plain and simple.

Mars bars are good but I think need extra chocolate. I prefer the texture given by rice crispies compared to cornflakes.

Cheerios don't work very well :)

Melt equal quantities of golden syrup and cocoa together in a pan. Stir in rice krispies.

Rice crispies and chocolate cake covering.Sprinkles on them before they set.

Or, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes with 70% chocolate for posh ones.

PotteringAlong · 08/04/2015 07:20

I normally just melt a bar of chocolate, stir in rice crispies and raisins. In going to try some of these!

Patapouf · 08/04/2015 09:20

Cornflakes are by far superior, better crunch!

Eva50 · 08/04/2015 09:24

Ds3 (8) says cornflakes! We decorated ours with mini eggs. I would post a photo but they're gone.

PeachyPants · 08/04/2015 09:25

I can vouch for wowfudge's recipe makes the most scrummy cakes, I hardly ever make them though because I know I'd scoff the tray.

BreeVDKamp · 08/04/2015 09:27

Shredded wheat around Easter, if you're doing the whole nest, mini egg decoration thing.

DH insists on cornflakes although I prefer Coco pops!

Really want a krispie cake now!!

TedAndLola · 08/04/2015 09:27

All we ever did was melt some chocolate and stir in cornflakes. IMO it's perfection and doesn't need added extras :D

Gatehouse77 · 08/04/2015 09:28

Funnily enough I was pondering the other night - rice crispies or cornflakes? I concluded rice crispier for me and DH.

Special K were too dense, we found...

As for a recipe, I just melt a (large!) bar of Dairy Milk and add cereal.
Yum yum!
