There are lots of threads on here, people talking about how much people buy their dc at Christmas, Easter, Birthdays ect but surely its each to their own. You can buy your own dc what you like ?

Well of course you can but we have increasing levels of debt and poverty in Britain and consumerism is such an addiction

I know I'm pretty bloody addicted to shopping and I have to try really hard not to get into debt

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 05/04/2015 18:05

Of course. You can even buy them nothing at all Grin

misstiredbuthappy · 05/04/2015 18:10

I just wonder why other people get so wound up at what other people buy thats all.

I didn't get anything at Easter and one small present each at Christmas.

Because anyone posting on social media a giant shower of gifts tends to look a bit smug and as if they are a better parent

I think it's odd posting photos of piles of gifts, hey 'look at me' - doesn't mean I don't buy lots of gifts

LaurieFairyCake · 05/04/2015 18:15

And no ones automatically better if they just buy their kid a stick for Christmas either

That's weird too

I don't think anybody thinks they are better. I think we tend to do what we did as kids for our DCs unless we were unhappy so in that case do the opposite. Christmas was always a very strained time for me growing up and so I don't make a massive thing of it now but go a bit more overboard with easter :)

YANBU To all those who get wound up and over invest in the lives of others, just stay off the threads that talk about DCs Easter Christmas and birthday presents and you'll have a less stressful time of it!

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 05/04/2015 18:46

Of course you can. However, you post it all over social media, heck even just tell me about how much little Jonny got for both occasions, how he still hasn't finished unwrapping three weeks later, being generally smug, and I will hoist up my judgey pants. There is such a thing as too much, in my (unwanted) opinion.

I'm an atheist, but i do find people celebrating the birth of Jesus /Jesus rising again etc by buying lots of shit very weird.
