Blatant Taat but it doesn't matter what thread, its been deleted now.

A young (ish) mum comes to mnet looking for support. Describes a pretty unideal start to her dc's life but has pulled things back. Is now struggling with what many many parents struggle with - bad behaviour and feeling overwhelmed.

People couldn't wait to tell her how disgusted they were. She clearly needed support. self esteem on the floor but really trying to sort things out.

hounded from the boards by a group of judgemental posters with nothing more helpful to add than "your poor child" Hmm

i hope they feel proud of themselves.

I hope I never wade in to put the boot in, but I do read all threads with my extremely cynical hat on.

I simply never wholly believe the really dramatic threads (such as the one you are referring to LEM) and I find this makes my Mumsnetting experience a whole lot less angst-ridden. When trolls are out a-trolling they know what buttons to push, what threads will get innocent posters worked up to the point of waiting with bated breath for updates.

I hide all the suicide and self harm threads too.

And the people getting in a flap because they accidentally ate some feta cheese while pregnant threads.

ResurrectAndEatShitChoc · 05/04/2015 21:32

Think I'd rather get a thread full of Confused than one Hmm

It sets the tone too much. Casting doubt in posters minds before they have even thought about what to type

Bowlersarm · 05/04/2015 21:32

Yes me too EatShit. grr. Was very annoying.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 21:34

Someone at some point said the Smile was passive aggressive.

The Hmm face is probably the most used one to indicate annoyance.

ResurrectAndEatShitChoc · 05/04/2015 21:35

Smile annoys me as you can tell the poster titled their head as they posted it.

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 05/04/2015 21:36

Admittedly I an prickly about this as I've just had it done to me - although Confused was just one of the problems amongst being sworn at and insulted Confused (in context this guy is fine) but often there is just NO NEED for it.

I've been on mumsnet long enough to know not to 'flounce' and to deal calmly and politely with the haters but that doesn't mean it isn't upsetting when people apparently hate you for not being clear enough!

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 21:36

Perhaps we need new non smiley smilies.

ResurrectAndEatShitChoc · 05/04/2015 21:39

I have a poster who popped up on a 8 page thread of mine to call me a spoil brat. I don't think they were committed to the cause

Are HQ raffling off Easter eggs to whoever gets me banned again?! Grin

There's a lot of name changing going on to be a GF I've noticed lately unless all the Easter egg haters are fighting the good fight against mN posters or something

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 21:42

I don't hate anyone, and I certainly wouldn't post Confused if someone was trying to explain something v serious.

I usually say 'there's not much information to go on can you tell us a bit more?' in those cases. Or not post if I don't think I can help.

ssd · 05/04/2015 21:45

I started a thread yday about jesus and easter and I think someone got death threats on it but as posts were deleted I cant be sure

beat that....

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 05/04/2015 21:46

That's completely fine sparkling - I'm not objecting to the fact sometimes ops aren't very clear or need a bit more information for people to reply.

I DO think Mumsnet is composed, in the main, of women who are well educated and articulate and when someone who is not posts for the first time, salient information is not always there. As such, and what I am driving at, is that someone's vulnerability may not be always obvious in their opening post. Gentle questioning can be what really helps them but unfortunately by the same token Confused, on its own, may well also cause them to stop posting.

ssd · 05/04/2015 21:47

I think we need a very serious face emoticon for the holier than thou posters who post like they have a pole up their arses

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 21:51

I think if someone is trying and failing to explain why they fancy Ed Milliband/dislike an advert/or who is annoying them on Loose Women a Confused face is just the job.

In Relationships/Feminism/Childbirth/Health/serious subjects then no which is why i have them hidden.

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 05/04/2015 21:51

Or perhaps you could just post what you want to say, as you did above, rather than pulling faces :)

I prefer rude arseholes who are open about it. Arseholes dusted in sugar disguised as doughnuts are more of a problem.

Goldenyellowhibiscus · 05/04/2015 21:52

In those contexts sparkling fine.

Not for 'I didn't understand your post.'

ssd · 05/04/2015 21:53

I prefer arseholes who tell it like it is rather than being clever with smart arsed phrases about it....

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 21:53

Sometimes only this will do.

Quite.

daisychain01 · 05/04/2015 22:14

It's so easy for people to stab away at their keyboard, isn't it.

I agree golden some OPs get a real shoe-ing. They don't deserve it when they already have shit going on in their life. They may not know how much is the right amount of information, just enough to explain their problem, without outing themselves, then they are accused of drip, drip, drip, so they can't win!

You take your life in your hands posting on here sometimes!

Islanegra · 05/04/2015 22:26

I saw the thread in question and there was some real bile.

I've been here about 5 years in various guises and some threads just seem to crash and burn one minute and then meander off another way an hour later!

My personal hatred is for when someone posts that they're upset about something perfectly legitimate but then are stamped on because other people have it worse. For fucks sake on that basis no one should ever bloody moan about anything unless they're posting about being starving hungry in a refugee camp in war torn Forrinland - presumably also with a good internet connection!
Posters like that need to put a fucking sock in it and sod off.

TheoriginalLEM · 05/04/2015 22:41

Bowlers - my initial reaction to the FIL thread was "what a bitch" and i didn't post, but then i thought about it and the unreasonableness of the whole thing reminded me of when i texted DP and told him i was going to smear shit on the wall of his female but absolutely not threat clients house because i was jealous of the time he was spending there. Turned out I was quite unwell with PND, the tone of her posts reminded me of that time.

i just killed my own thread Easter Grin

I like glittery arseholes. Those who are straight to the point but the words they use make the sentence glisten

TenerifeSea · 05/04/2015 22:57

Is this about the hating FIL thread? If so, poor OP got a right kicking. It's easy to forget there are humans behind the screen.
