AIBU or is everyone else on the coach?

A live one... I've just boarded a coach with DS (12) and DD (4) for a last minute visit to see family. Couldn't get the train as its £££ if you don't book in advance, we've done the coach before and it's always been OK. The journey is 2hrs15 mins without any delays.

Today we got on at Hammersmith rather than Victoria so every pair of seats was taken up by single passengers. Not a single one would move so I could sit next to DD and most just ignored us as we walked up and down aisle (coach in motion) asking if someone would move. Ds is right at other end and is fine.

Pressed start too soon. Am I being precious or are they all inconsiderate?

Just sit in 2 aisle seats next to each other.

DialsMavis · 01/04/2015 18:58

There aren't any, I'm a cross and one down, not the end of the world but it still surprised me people refused. Can I absolve myself of all parenting responsibility for the duration of my journey? Wink

Across the aisle

I assume the non movers are all in window seats? If you're sat across the aisle from dd then yab a bit u. You son is plenty old enough to sit separately from you.

mayfridaycomequickly · 01/04/2015 19:00

So they're not all taken up by single passengers then??

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2015 19:01

Can you book seats. If so you should have booked together

PoppyBlossom · 01/04/2015 19:01

I think it's just one of those things, If I was on a coach Id rather have a mini 4 year old next to me than move and be cramped up against someone else for the duration.

capsium · 01/04/2015 19:02

Plonk your dd down and make a big deal of getting a sick bag out. What the is the betting they'll move?

DialsMavis · 01/04/2015 19:04

Each pair of seats was taken up by a single passenger, if there was a pair free I would've sat there (obviously).

People didn't even want to move their bags... Weird. I read about people being horrible on here all the time but never experience it in RL, so it's probably best it's me that's BU, rather than a coach full of people.

ChocolateEggFace · 01/04/2015 19:04

I would much rather move than sit next to someone elses 4yo DD. (But I'm basing this on my own over talkative, every questioning DD)

Go over, and ask her if she's still feeling sick. Wink

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/04/2015 19:04

That could have easily been solved by shouting "well it's either sitting with another adult who will give you or peace and quiet or with my daughter who will talk endlessly to you about Frozen. Which do you prefer?"

DialsMavis · 01/04/2015 19:05

I'd do anything to avoid sitting with other people's children!

OP posts:
SpaghettiMeatballs · 01/04/2015 19:05

I would move so you can sit with your 4 year old DD OP.

SlightlyJaded · 01/04/2015 19:06

YANBU I'd move for you.

Yeah yeah should have booked a ticket, blah blah. But seriously? Op has said it was a last minute trip and she's making a reasonable request.

No, there is no obligation to move, but unless you get car sick, one seat is as good as the next.

DialsMavis · 01/04/2015 19:07

I've calmed down now, but I'm not able to conduct whispered conversations as I usually would to keep noise to a minimum.

OP posts:
Oakmaiden · 01/04/2015 19:07

That is odd. Who on earth would want to sit next to someone else's 4 year old?

Not me. And I like children.

AWimbaWay · 01/04/2015 19:08

People are selfish, I would have moved (admittedly more to avoid sitting next to someone else's 4 year old), loving the sick bag idea, you have to do it!

SinglePringle · 01/04/2015 19:08

How can each pair of seats be taken up by a travelling alone yet there be no aisle seats opposite each other Confused? There must be some pairs seats where two people sitting?

SinglePringle · 01/04/2015 19:10

If I had a window seat and you required me to move to an aisle seat, nope I'd not move.

DialsMavis · 01/04/2015 19:10

Can you book seats next to each other? It's not going to ruin my weekend or anything, I just found it surprising that people wouldn't even move if asked/would want to sit with an wriggly chatter box.

OP posts:
Lweji · 01/04/2015 19:11

They wouldn't move their bags to sit a person?

I'd move the bags myself, honestly.

DialsMavis · 01/04/2015 19:11

Sorry, some seats have both taken, I see what you mean

OP posts:
TheVermiciousKnid · 01/04/2015 19:11

YANBU. I would have moved. Sounds rather mean. :(
