to insist on a refund and not collect this parcel?

I placed a large Amazon order at the beginning of March, birthday presents for DS and easter eggs for everyone. We're not in the UK so it's all stuff we can't get here. I didn't realise until the confirmation email came through that some of it was from the market place so massive delivery charges, but never mind, my mistake.

A week later the amazon stuff all arrives. Thankfully DS's birthday presents. The easter eggs still haven't arrived. I sent messages to the supplier last week but have had no response.

Yesterday I got a phone call from a woman in Finland who said my package has been delivered to her. It has her address on the outside but my details inside. She also said it's really badly packaged and the contents are damaged. She taped it up as best she can and taken it back to the post office to be redirected.

I don't want it now. I don't want to pay 10x the normal price for broken easter eggs which won't be here for easter. I've messaged the company but they haven't responded. I don't even want to accept the parcel when it finally gets here because then I'll have to pay to send it back, plus it might end up going back to the nice Finnish lady.

AIBU if I just inform Amazon that it hasn't arrived and I no longer want it?

YANBU.

ChipDip · 31/03/2015 15:36

Why would you just not tell them the whole story in the first place. They can't make you accept it once it's been opened by someone else.

Call amazon customer services. They really are quite helpful! I was really surprised at how helpful they actually were.

CuttingOutTheCrap · 31/03/2015 15:44

Another vote for Amazon customer service. They are brilliant!

hedgehogsdontbite · 31/03/2015 15:44

I thought they might not refund me if I know it's on its way. I'm also worried that I'll get stung for the delivery charges as it's food items which I don't think have the same right of return. Although that could be a figment of my imagonatipn.

Call amazon or get them on "live chat" they are surprisingly helpful Smile

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 31/03/2015 15:47

Well, if you think about it, it's food items which have mistakenly gone to someone else. You have literally no idea whether they're safe to eat any more so any reputable company would replace. Just tell Amazon, I've had nothing but good experiences from their customer service even when dealing with marketplace orders.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 31/03/2015 16:28

You can ask for a refund (because you haven't received them)

Where they went instead, and what happens to them now, isn't your problem.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/03/2015 16:35

YADNBU. They may be marketplace sellers, but Amazon is pretty strict with them. Contact Amazon (if you are abroad I'm guessing their live chat will be best option). Be assertive and they will sort you out very efficiently.

Yanbu. Talk to amazon. They have amazing service and refunded me when the item i ordered didnt arrive like the email send on the friday. Waited till the wednesday to report it missing. Refunded the money straight away. Had contacted the seller who told me to report it missing.. Turned up in a broken and open box about two weeks later. Contact amazon again who said just keep it. It was broken so i throw it, also the seller sent a replacement free by then.

Fleecyleesy · 31/03/2015 16:46

Their customer service is generally good. I'd email and ask for a refund.

CoveredInWit · 31/03/2015 16:53

Another vote for contacting Amazon. They sorted out a marketplace order for me once when the mistake was actually on my side in ordering the wrong specifications on an item. Really really great customer service.

Iwasbornin1993 · 31/03/2015 16:57

YY to customer services, Amazon are really good with situations like this!

hippymama1 · 31/03/2015 17:08

YANBU. Complain to Amazon - they are brilliant - explain it to them and I am sure they will refund you.

Nosyman94 · 31/03/2015 17:11

A bit Hmm at all the people describing amazon as having good customer service. When I contacted them about dps emailing me to tell me that they had dropped my parcel off at a local post office ( they had not knocked - I was in all day waiting for them reading) I was basically told to shove it. There was no disciplinary action for the driver involved who forgot to do part two of his job (deliver the fucking item) and I ended up cancelling the order in disgust. They are, in short, wanks.

Rainbunny · 31/03/2015 19:25

Another vote here for great customer service from Amazon. Just call them OP I can almost guarantee they'll refund you in your circumstances. I had a similar experience with a marketplace seller.

fridayfreedom · 31/03/2015 19:29

Yep call Amazon. I had fab device from them recently when a seller through the market place didn't respond to my emails or calls.
To cut a long story short I got a refund from Amazon and got to keep the goods as the seller didn't arrange collection.
