am needing a new washing machine, so I think, check out the reviews section on MN

the Miele washing machines are very popular there, great reviews.....so I google them, jesus christ they are like over £1000!!!

I know its all middle class shit on here but seriously??

We bought hot point fridge, freezer, tumble dryer and washing machine in 2001. They all still work but I'm conscious we're on borrowed time and they'll all break at once!

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 30/03/2015 19:14

Lowry, our Hotpoint dishwasher was also from about 2001, and it finally conked out last year, so you are doing better than us. I was very happy with that lifespan TBH as it was used every day and I never rinsed, and put the cat bowls, pans, kitchen bin etc in it.

Our Hotpoint fridge freezer is still going strong and is from approximately 1999, so about 16 years old.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 30/03/2015 19:16

Sorry, forgot to say that I think they both cost £4-500, all that time ago, whereas we are now looking at replacements of similar quality items for £250 - 300.

ssd · 30/03/2015 20:13

does anyone know if anywhere does warranties of 5 years? I think the dearer washing machines have them but would hotpoint do that?

OP posts:
CMP69 · 30/03/2015 20:17

I got a Miele dw to product test too. I can't afford £999:99 for an appliance nor would I have spent £250 on the satnav I product tested either. Keep your eyes on the sticky threads that's the place for freebies Smile

ssd · 30/03/2015 20:57

yeah but surely they take it away after a few weeks and you know what you're missing then...or do you get to keep the stuff? surely not

OP posts:
CMP69 · 30/03/2015 20:59

Oh yes you get to keep it as long as you post the review and answer the feedback questions. My Miele is washing my dishes right now Grin

We've just bought this Bosch washing machine from ao.com. It is excellent, very quiet and does what it says on the tin.

We always had Bosch for years then had a bad experience so bought a Hotpoint. It came with parts missing and hat to be rebuilt in my kitchen (should have held my ground and got a refund) so took out a repair plan. It failed after four years. They replaced it with a Hotpoint Aqualtis, well the engineer might as well have moved in he was here so regularly. That had a major component failure in January and they couldn't get the part. After 3 weeks of it "being on the boat" I kicked off and they paid out for a new one.

We do have a Hotpoint dryer that is 16 years old and still works, but they're made by Indesit now and you can tell. The buttons are plasticy and feel like they will snap off. I'll never buy a Hotpoint anything again.

ouryve · 30/03/2015 21:31

My posh Bosch cost less than doing it all at the not so local laundrette for 6 months.

fourteen · 30/03/2015 21:32

I got bollocked on here for recommending a Dacia to someone who wanted a new family car.

Someone said to me "the OP has been driving a BMW, I hardly think a Dacia is going to be her next car, do you?"

Bitch. They're great family cars Smile

I'm off to review my Beko washing machine now...

Justanotherlurker · 30/03/2015 21:35

YABU, mumsnet prides itself on being middle class. If your too poor to actualy buy anything in the reviews it's ultimately the 'nasty tories' problem. Any levelling of the situation is welcomed unless it hits the middle 'class' income directly.

ouryve · 30/03/2015 21:38

And yes, there was a Miele product review a year or so ago. I'd have gone for it if I hadn't just bought a new washer dryer (a good one of them is serious money and they all need a god warranty, because it'll be used. I'm appreciating the good Neff/Bosch/Siemens service (and just remembered, mine's the siemens version of a Bosch one because it was £5 cheaper) because I used to have an AEG and they took 2 weeks to come out each time it broke. Which was often. DH started doing the repairs himself once it was out of warranty.)

BlessedAndGr8fulNoInLaws4Xmas · 30/03/2015 21:38

Yabu cos I have just booked my dream holiday for my 40th bday based on a mumsnet best that I would never in a million years found otherwise.
I'm WC work my arse off but often use mumsnet reviews for holidays, day travel, household appliances, toys, beauty etc.
I would rather pay out and have something that lasts.

I've gone through most makes - for me Phillips have always been the best waits with baited breath for the damn thing to break down on me now

Fleecyleesy · 30/03/2015 21:52

Isn't the idea that the hugely expensive machines have 10 year guarantees or something like that? So actually if you have the £££ to shell out in the first place, then actually it might be some approximation of value for money? I don't really know, I haven't got an expensive one but I think that's the logic.

Also can't people review anything they want? It would seem pretty shocking to tell a person to piss off out of the reviews section as they are a rich bitch? Discrimination in reverse. It is not like they are reviewing million pound yachts (I'm assuming anyway, haven't been to reviews section!).

RJnomore · 30/03/2015 21:57

Yes I think it's another of those things where having less money costs you more in th long run.

tartyflette · 30/03/2015 22:01

OP, my Miele washer drier has (had) a five year warranty, we bought it as the store said they last a good 15 years plus and probably 20. DH said "great, that'll see me out, job done. " it is 6-7 years old , no probs at all so far and is an excellent washer. The Drier not so much but many washer-driers aren't all that great for drying. (Takes a while to dry a load)

butterfly2015 · 30/03/2015 22:11

We've got a beko washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher. The drier and dishwasher were bought from ao.com which I can't praise enough. Amazing customer service, delivery within two days and a two hour time slot. Fantastic.

I have no issues with my beko stuff at all. My previous washing machine was a Hoover which I had for 15 years and then the door catch broke and couldn't get it fixed.

I love my tumble drier as its got a little beeper when it finishes plus its got a light inside it. But it doesn't take much to make me happy.

Shenanagins · 30/03/2015 22:21

We have a beko washing machine and it does the job perfectly well, surviving the baby and potty training years!

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 30/03/2015 22:38

Anyone can review anything - it is very easy.
So let's start reviewing free activities, budget white goods and other things we think are great.

Because if we don't start reviewing the stuff we recommend, then nobody else will.

MmeLindor · 30/03/2015 22:49

I'd love a Miele washing machine, cause my PILs had one and it lasted for AGES.

Bosch, AEG and Siemens are all very good makes, and not nearly as expensive. We've always found them very reliable.

Don't spend money on extended warranties. Waste of money.

colleysmill · 30/03/2015 22:54

I have a lovely beko eco one now from an online retailer already mentioned - it cost about 200 quid and is marvellous. Can't fault it and it arrived within 48 hours from ordering. Previously I had a v expensive whirlpool which did in fairness last 13 years (although for 10years it sounded it was on its last legs)

According to my bil I'm about as middle class as they come. I don't mention that makes my dsis middle class too ;)

I'm off to review more stuff

primarywannabe · 30/03/2015 22:56

Hotpoint all the way.
