Perhaps it's not clear from the photos Lego - they're coinlock trolleys, and somebody has returned a trolley to the end of each stack the wrong way round, so they get their pound back but the next person (i.e. me) has nowhere to put their trolley to get the pound back. If they were just lazily slung in there, I'd happily move them into nice tidy lines

When they're like this you have to either use your own pound coin to sort the mess out, or find another trolley bay.

YANBU, it takes seconds to slot in so time isn't an excuse! Only £1 ones guarantee them being orderly.

The only benefit is it allows you to get your pound out of a small trolley using the key from a big trolley. Some places I know use different keys for the big and small trolleys but Tesco's are the same. I think people mainly do it because they think it's funny, though.

And when they leave a random trolley in the parking bays to roll away and scratch a car (usually one that doesn't have the £ slot, or they think "Someone can pocket the quid" but no consideration to the ££ of damage they can do)

I had to do this once

It was pissing down and I had a taxi waiting. I went to put the trolley back but someone had helpfully pushed a whole stack of smaller trolleys in front of one of those things you use to get a trolley out of...if you know what I mean? Anyway I physically could not shift that rack of trolleys out of the way so I just attached mine to the end of them and left it.

Didn't enter my head at the time that I could've walked round to where there were more trolleys and I could have left it properly put away but it was raining and I just wanted to get home.
