Or is DH over cleaning bathtub?

DH wears a pair of rubber crocs as indoor slippers. Today he had walked outside in them so they were covered in mud and he was trailing mud all over the house (we live on a farm with very clay soil). When I pointed this out to him he said he would wash the crocs in the bathtub, which seemed odd to me as it would make a mess he would then have to clean. He said he would clean it all.

He washed the mud off in the tub then run clear water over it until there was no sign of mud. AIBU to have wanted him to use cleaning products? He was surprised to hear this was necessary and refused to do it on the grounds the tub looked clean.

We both believe the man in the Clapham omnibus would agree with us, so who is right? Disgusting or analy retentive?

He is. Sorry.

Snozberry · 25/03/2015 10:27

It wouldn’t have taken much extra effort to at least spray a bit of bathroom cleaner before rinsing it out. You won’t die though. I’m leaning slightly towards YANBU.

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 25/03/2015 10:27

you are. why on earth would you need to scrub the tub if the mud has been washed down the plug hole?

whitefluffything · 25/03/2015 10:28

Yep, he is.

PurpleBananaPie · 25/03/2015 10:28

I also think YABU. As long as the mud all rinsed down the plughole, why the need for cleaning products?

WaxOnWaxOff · 25/03/2015 10:28

he's right. YABU.

Sorry I agree with him. But next time just chuck them in your dishwasher if you have one.

MythicalKings · 25/03/2015 10:30

He's right.

Pootles2010 · 25/03/2015 10:31

No you're right. Farm yard = animal poop. Allover where you get clean. Yak!

CatsCantTwerk · 25/03/2015 10:32

I agree with you dh.

googoodolly · 25/03/2015 10:32

I agree with your DH, but then I only clean my bathroom every couple of weeks (two of us, no DC so it doesn't get that dirty) so I'm possibly not the best person to ask!

Booboostoo · 25/03/2015 10:33

Nooooooooooooo!

I was hoping to staple this thread on his forehead, now I have to apologize, nooooooooooooo!

Barf at the dishwasher idea. I know it's psychological but still barf at dirty foot related things in with plates.

Most cleaning products are used to get rid of fat/oils and dissolve minerals.
For proper disinfection you'd need bleach.
But I hardly think that was necessary here.

Booboostoo · 25/03/2015 10:44

He is gloating now people, look what you have done. I blame all of you (apart from Pootles, white and maybe Snoz).

ImpishElf · 25/03/2015 10:47

He is BU - cleaning products a must - he might have stepped in mud contaminated with animal poop. I thought this was going to be about your DH over cleaning the tub and that you thought he was cleaning it too much, which would have been great Grin

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 25/03/2015 10:48

Ask him to lick the tub :) A lot depends on the type of farm and the livestock I suppose. I assume if he tracked mud all over the house and your only issue is disinfecting the tub, that you don't have animals though

Sorry - I wouldn't be breaking out the cleaning products either but I would use quite hot water.

PurpleSwift · 25/03/2015 10:48

You live on a farm yard. I don't think the dirt of farm yard mud being rinsed away with water is sufficient, no, especially not for a bath! YANBU.

Schnullerbacke · 25/03/2015 10:49

Nothing wrong with a bit of farm animal bacteria. Studies have shown that kids exposed to them had a much less chance of getting asthma etc. So unless you have a outbreak of swine / hoof / arse flu - YABU. Dog shit on the other hand - different story. Can't even tell you why. Yuk.

Booboostoo · 25/03/2015 10:50

We have horses and assorted small animals, the tide is turning!!!

thecatneuterer · 25/03/2015 10:52

I would never have crossed my mind to use anything other than water in that situation. And I'm sure he would have been aware if they had been covered in fox poo or whatever. And even if that were the case, it would go down the plug hole with the water. And you don't use the bath to eat your dinner off do you? So the 'germs' talk is totally OTT.

googoodolly · 25/03/2015 10:56

But if it's a farm with animals, why aren't you bothered about the mud in the rest of the house? I hope he's washed all floors too.

or he could be sensible and take his shoes off before he comes inside like a normal person who's been walking through mud

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 25/03/2015 10:57

We have two small children so I would definitely have used cleaning products / bleach / arsenic before letting them have a bath in that tub. That might be more to do with DH's feet though...

YANBU. Staple the thread to his forehead anyway - then he can't read what it says Grin

DoJo · 25/03/2015 11:00

YABU, but then I only ever shower in our bath, perhaps if I was going to lie in it I might feel differently.

sunbathe · 25/03/2015 11:01

YANBU. He is being slatternly.

Why on earth did he take them outside?
