Was I being unreasonable/how badly have I messed up?

DP hates tattoos, she has always been very honest and made it clear she would be livid if I ever got a tattoo.
So this morning I was passing a magic/fancy dress shop and decided to look inside. I had the best idea I have ever had and bought a temporary tattoo of a topless woman that looks a bit like DP......
She was at home so when I got home I ran upstairs and straight in to the bathroom I put the tattoo on and wrapped a bandage around it.
Then I confessed, I told her I'd done something and she wouldn't be happy I told her I got a tattoo but it's ok because it's of her.
She didn't believe me until I showed her, she was absolutely horrified and left the room. Then she left the house she just got in her car and drove off, left her phone here. That was almost 2 hours ago, we had plans for most of the day so she will be pissed off about missing that as well.
Eventually she will find it funny right??

Long story short- I pretended to get a tattoo of my DP topless on my arm and I know she hates tattoos now she has left and doesn't know it was a fake tattoo.

Justonemoretime2P My partner also hates Tattoos and would hate me to have one BUT, he wouldn't storm out or have a fit. He would just give me one of his 'looks' and tell me he thinks I am an idiot. He would definitely think it was up to me if I wanted to 'vandalise' ( his term for it!) my body.

jeee · 24/03/2015 15:33

I have always told my children that if the victim recipient of a practical joke doesn't find it funny, then it's not a joke.

I don't think you need to get the hair shirt out - it's not that bad. But I do think you need to apologise with no 'but it's only a joke' added to the end of your apology. You were a bit silly, you apologise, and you move on.

SylvaniansAtEase · 24/03/2015 15:34

Maybe she just hasn't got over hilarious fake moustache incident yet.

EeyoresTail · 24/03/2015 15:36

How did you expect her to react *OP?
Seems like a shitty idea for a joke to me!
Do you have a history of pranking?

ThingummyJigg · 24/03/2015 15:36

This is hilarious.

Sorry.

In all honesty, if she hates tattoos so much she will leave the house and not be in touch for a few hours, then I think she has a problem.

I hope to Christ she doesn't come back and say "Two can play at that game, you arsehole!" and unveil a tattoo of you, nekkid.

justonemoretime2p · 24/03/2015 15:37

Allstoppedup- no other issues in our relationship we are both very lucky. We are open with each other and talk about what annoys us so I don't think its a build up of problems in our relationship. She was working from home all morning when I wasn't here so she might have been having a shit morning and I tipped it over the edge.

Sylvaniansatease- I tease her about it and say I'm going to get a tattoo, normally something ridiculously big but she always knew I didnt want a tattoo.

Are you the guy that let your partner walk all the way home with no keys or phone while you ducked into your parents house to hide for a "joke" ?

GoadyFuckAaargh · 24/03/2015 15:38

over-reaction imo.

AtomicDog · 24/03/2015 15:39

Is that really the best idea you've ever had?

justonemoretime2p · 24/03/2015 15:39

ThingummyJig- I'm 98% sure she wouldn't get a tattoo.

letscookbreakfast · 24/03/2015 15:45

I'm sitting here chuckling, what a massive over-reaction.

Justusemyname · 24/03/2015 15:46

I hope she drove safely..

GayByrne · 24/03/2015 15:47

She's off fucking your best friend, you know that, right?

Number3cometome · 24/03/2015 15:47

.

Writerwannabe83 · 24/03/2015 15:50

Personally I would find that hilarious Grin

kali110 · 24/03/2015 15:52

Wow what an overreaction.
I think that is hilarious!

BreconBeBuggered · 24/03/2015 15:52

Whatever she thinks you'd hate most, that's what she's doing right now.

DorothyBastard · 24/03/2015 15:55

Have you started planning exactly how you're going to grovel when/if she returns?

justonemoretime2p · 24/03/2015 15:56

It's not THAT much of an over reaction, I promised her I would never get a tattoo and we always walk away to cool down before an argument.
Neither of us has driven off before but she was pretty mad.

OP posts:
PGNo1 · 24/03/2015 15:58

Huge over reaction from her and to walk out is very bizarre.

I hope she isn't doing anything she will regret...

I would see the funny side but I would have also asked a few more questions before leaving in a huff!

justonemoretime2p · 24/03/2015 15:58

DorothyBastard- we are almost definitely having sushi for dinner tonight instead of nandos :(

OP posts:
Number3cometome · 24/03/2015 15:59

She's probably in Nandos now already to be fair....

asmallandnoisymonkey · 24/03/2015 15:59

I think this is the funniest thing I've read on MN in AGES.
I think she's overreacted a tiny touch (walking away from an argument to cool down is good but she's been gone a while now eh?) - you'll have to see what she's like when she gets back.
Of course if she comes back with a tattoo you're gonna be in SO MUCH trouble

keepsmiling2015 · 24/03/2015 16:03

Lol. Why are people having a go at the op? It is funny! She completely over reacted. It's your body anyway even if you did want onGrine in the future. Best not though

specialsubject · 24/03/2015 16:04

practical jokes. So terribly funny and sophisticated. Jeremy Beadle. How we laughed...

no, they aren't and no we didn't. These jokes are really childish. Remember those two bullying Aussie DJs thought theirs was funny too...

learn a lesson.
