I've been a lurker here since TTC a few years ago- sadly this was not to be as my Ovarian Cancer was spotted during an IVF scan and the necessary surgery and chemotherapy put a stop to all hopes of our own family. The good news was that it was caught early so I have a good chance of a cure and have now graduated to six monthly checks!
In previous jobs I was involved in a number of health awareness schemes and consider myself well informed. However, I was not aware of ovarian cancer nor its symptoms- a recent study found this is also true for 97% of adult women in the UK!
There's a lot of media interest today in Angelina Jolie's decision to have preventative surgery. The majority of OVCA is not however due to BRCA and so awareness is really important! A friend of mine has managed to get the main OVCA charities together and signed up to this Thunderclap, a social network event whereby the message is released from all accounts on March 31st. So far the reach is just over 300000 (which is great) but I think we should hope to reach a million! Would you please have a read, sign up on Facebook & Twitter and encourage others to do the same? Thank so much! www.thunderclap.it/projects/23820-are-you-ovarian-cancer-
