Clocks go forward this weekend- aaaargh!

Why oh why, I mean I do see we are this 15th century farming society and the workhorses and other farm animals come first and can't work in the dark, but really? I personally can switch on the electric lights! Rant over.

IABU and probably overreacting a bit, aren't I?

Possibly a bit but I know where you are coming from. Both DDs find adjusting hard.

And I'd prefer that the clocks aren't put back in October I don't care about light in the mornings but want as much as possible in the evenings.

Er, yes, YABVVU.... if we don't move the clocks then it gets light way before most of us want to get up come midsummer, and the dawn chorus is too early even with the clock change.

I love it when the clocks move in spring and the children can play outside for longer after school, and grown-ups can have a drink in the garden after work. What's not to like?

What's not to like? The change. I hate change. I get jet lagged in October and in March. Kids handle change as well as I do and I have so many "fuck, we need to go go GO!" moments in October only to realize it's an hour earlier than I thought. Come March, I am behind all day long because I just feel it can't be that late yet.

Erm, but the clocks changing has nothing to with farmers, it was originally campaigned for to give more leisure time in the summer evenings, eventually introduced to save coal.

I love the longer, lighter evenings and feel much more positive. I am really not at my best during the shorter winter days and I all but count off the days from the end of October until the end of March.

We don't live symmetrically around noon. We've just had the equinox, GMT - light roughly 6am to 6pm. Well, that's not too bad. But as the summer progresses, do you really want it full daylight at 4am and dark by 8pm?

According to the video I am suffering this dreadful change because of a German Kaiser who wanted to save fuel in WWI, nequid?! That's almost as sensible as last orders at 11 because of ammunition workers from the same war! Even grumpier now.

In fact, a bit further into the year (when the birds are waking me up at uncivilized hours) I could wish we had that wartime thing of 'double summertime'.

If you want to object to clocks changing, then why not stay at BST all year? It's the autumn change which is the nasty one.

Oh good I forgot that. DD2 has already switched with the light getting up at bloody 6am so that means she'll be up at 7 again yes?

Spare a thought for me - I'm having to get up at 5 am instead of 6 on Sunday to get to work on Sunday morning - ugh!

I notice it for a month. Birds have no chance of waking me and my family all sleep like logs. My talentless rendition of O sole mio or similar is the only thing waking anyone round here

I am just in a mild state of panic for ages and always feel slightly off with my timing.

Given that the clocks that matter most (computer and phone) can change automatically, why not go one step further and define 7am so that it is always dawn. i.e. clocks change slightly every day. A post above says dawn would sometimes happen at 4am with no DST, so presumably it sometimes happens at 5am with DST, if it were switched to 7am with my idea, that would be an extra two hours of daylight in the evening in the middle of summer.

Maybe I'll secretly change all the clocks and do practice run tomorrow morning and just before we leave I will reveal everyone has another hour of coffee/ play/ whatever Grin
