How many sheds is reasonable?

Do you have more than one?

I mean, if you live in an average 3 bed semi, not a stately home with park where you might reasonably need a potting shed.

Also, does it make a difference if you don't have a garage to keep bicycles in?

Garage is full of vintage tractors.
Shed is full of garage stuff.
Woodshed is full of wood.
Coalshed is full of coal.
Shed stuff is in our incredibly ott outbuilding, it has two floors, three separate rooms including one with a fireplace Shock and it's own posh nameplate and it is bloody full!

Apparently this isn't enough sheds...

Gruntfuttock · 24/03/2015 23:38

We have 3 sheds, which were already here when we bought our bungalow. They're all used.

BuggersMuddle · 24/03/2015 23:43

We only have a bloody big double garage.

PIL have a garage, two outhouses and a greenhouse / potting shed.

I have come to find that if you are not a tidy person, more space just gets filled with more shit. This seems to be true of extra / bigger rooms. I would imagine it also applies to sheds...

Zero but currently5ly saving for one, hopefully have it by summer as have a boxed lawn mower sitting doing nothing as have nowhere to put it and my house has very little storage space.
My single OAP neighbour has six! Gd knows what's she has six for.

HicDraconis · 25/03/2015 02:41

One large shed - for bikes, paint stuff, hay, gardening bits.
One large garage (bigger than a double, not quite as big as a triple) for other garden stuff, car stuff, power tools, workbench, stuff-that-needs-keeping.
Roof attic for long term storage, side attic for storage of regularly used things (camping bits mainly).
I'd like another shed for chicken things but currently they're stored precariously under the coop. DH has a space earmarked for a greenhouse, which will end up being half potting/planting and half storage I imagine.

You can never have too many sheds :)

For those with multiple sheds, why not just have one big one Confused ?

Really, really dislike sheds. A PP described them well as 'spider machines', always have huge cobwebs too. That being said I'm planning one for my pet rabbits but am vowing to put in internal panels and give everything a brush/ wipe down daily to keep it spider free clean.

MyNightWithMaud · 25/03/2015 03:15

I too thought of Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson.

I have no shed, as yet, but my fantasy shed will contain all the tutt that is currently stored in the pop-up greenhouse and former outside loo (which in turn will be converted to a tumble-drying cave).

Stinkersmum · 25/03/2015 05:11

We had two sheds. 3 bed semi (on a river). One shed was for fishing gear. Other shed was for gardening stuff and boat stuff. Probably could've done with another one really.

Stinkersmum · 25/03/2015 05:12

Oops. Plus a single garage full of DHs shit more fishing and shooting tackle.

RingtheBells · 25/03/2015 05:32

We have a outhouse 30' x 6' at bottom of garden, 2 small sheds and garage which is used as a shed. It keeps DH happy, he has lots of outdoorsy things, I'm happy it's out of the house also. Average 30's 3 bed detached.

2rebecca · 25/03/2015 09:30

Our main shed is in its 3rd incarnation getting bigger each time mainly due to bikes. Also small shed for gardening stuff. No garage.

2rebecca · 25/03/2015 09:32

1 for bikes and gardening stuff wouldn't work as you don't want to damage the bikes getting out the lawnmower and both bikes and gardening stuff are more accessible if 2 sheds as you stack things differently. Also our large shed is now as big as it can go whilst the small shed is in a different small shady area not fit for anything else.

My neighbours have a shed summer house that they cook in. No cooking done in house as it makes house too hard to clean. They eat in the house. ShockHmmConfusedConfused

Our back garden is 800 feet long and we have just one shed (for kids stuff), one greenhouse, one garage (half way down the garden - for the lawnmowers and garden implements) and then a garage attached to the house (used as a utility room and bike store). Everywhere is 'full' (as we have no loft space) but we do need to get some shelving and sort it out - but we don't have just one large one as then all the kids stuff would be in with dangerous mowers/tools etc! Our neighbours have more sheds/outbuildings than I've managed to count - so I think there's no right number, it just depends on what you personally want! Grin

This reminded me of an old Jasper Carrott programme where he was recounting a meeting with Princess Diana, at which he was so overcome with nerves that the only thing he could think to say was "I have two sheds in my garden now!"

When DH bought me my lovely summerhouse for a big birthday I found this site Readers Sheds so fascinating that DH started to call it my shed porn!
