How many sheds is reasonable?

Do you have more than one?

I mean, if you live in an average 3 bed semi, not a stately home with park where you might reasonably need a potting shed.

Also, does it make a difference if you don't have a garage to keep bicycles in?

My oh is obsessed with getting shipping containers. I've been reading bits of this thread out and he's been nodding and saying "that's reasonable" especially about the shipping containers

Icimoi · 23/03/2015 17:14

Did anyone else read that thread title and instantly think of Monty Python's Arthur "Two Sheds" Jackson?

echt · 23/03/2015 17:21

I thought of that immediately, icimoi. 60, if that helps.:o

cozietoesie · 23/03/2015 17:43

After the pit thread I thought I would be treated to a nice discussion of shed porn - or at the very least some interesting outbuilding diversions.

Most disappointing.

Every shed is the house of untold spiders.

I once spent an hour with my dad in his gardening shed watching a spider try to ensnare a wasp. It was fascinating.

But now that I have seen it, and the fact that the shed in question as pulled down about 40 years ago, I see no further purpose in sheds.

They are just spider machines.

yomellamoHelly · 23/03/2015 18:02

We had 3 when we moved in. Asked them to empty them when they left. They left one full of all sorts(paint cans, bits of wood, tools, roofing felt ......). Took me a few days to empty it carload by carload to the dump. Then got rid of them all, much to dh's upset.
So we currently have 0. Planning for 1 by the summer.

HookedOnHooking · 23/03/2015 18:47

I am struggling with the thought that I may be wrong and unreasonable. Shock

Current shed has lawnmower, strimmer, tools etc in. But it has to be admitted it is difficult to get to anything with beloved bicycle in the way. She is special and can't have gardening shit touching her.

I don't do gardening so not listened to gardner radio programmes either.

H may get his second shed and I'll have to find somewhere else for my future bees.

3 bed semi.

Two wooden sheds and then two large brick outbuildings about the size of sheds, maybe slightly bigger.

One shed for chicken stuff and some gardening stuff.
One shed for my recumbent bike and some folding wooden chairs
One outbuilding as a log store and for two bikes and lots of hay
Other outbuilding for two more bikes, paint pots, ladders, surf boards, Dh's collection of bits of wood which one day may be useful.

Oh, we've got an outside loo as well which is full of old cages, and bundles of fencing and wire.

AppleAndBlackberry · 23/03/2015 18:56

We don't have any but we do have a double garage so I guess that's equivalent to about 5 sheds in terms of storage since we don't keep a car in it...

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 23/03/2015 19:01

Three, one of which may be called a Glory Box (possibly only by the carpenter who sold us one). Plus a DH/P who keeps them nice and tidy with no dark corners that cannot be visited the term 'spider machines' has just freaked me out, man.

The shed thing has a life of its own in some parts of Australia:

Trickydecision · 23/03/2015 20:08

Two, one with bikes etc in and one , very small, in which I once discovered two robbers on the run from the police.

Had I been a mumsnetter then I would have been begging for hands to hold and expected penty of Wine or even better, gin, to be sent my way.

Vickisuli · 24/03/2015 09:20

We have 3 sheds and a garage by our average 4 bed house.

Garage is used for motorbike and storage (ie junk)

Shed 1 for bikes x 4 and scooters x 3
Shed 2 for garden and outdoor toys inc roller skates, ride on toys, rackets, balls, paddling pool, kids outdoor table etc
Shed 3 for gardening stuff inc lawn mower and grown up table and chairs

We have no place to put another shed but could easily fill another one!

Superdooperal · 24/03/2015 09:24

I am reliably informed that, just like guitars, there is no such thing as too many sheds.

glidingpig · 24/03/2015 09:42

Our rented 3-bed end of terrace has two sheds, they were here when we moved in. I thought it was excessive at first, but to be honest they're v useful. Means we can grab a spade and fork without having to do battle with three bikes and a scooter.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 24/03/2015 09:43

The man over the road has 3. Two doors up has 4.

My husband has 1 - but is as big as the 3 in total space but this is not sufficient as he keeps drooling over Rightmove with houses in the middle of nowhere with outbuildings, sheds, stables, garages, wood stores, barns, haylofts you name it.

As I think that you can keep the same sort of things in a shed as you do a garage but then I am but a female so I do not understand sheds. Wink

tinkerbellvspredator · 24/03/2015 09:52

We have one of those garden boxes that you lift the lid on which fits nicely underneath the kitchen window so doesn't take up much room. Fits the lawnmower, paddling pool, some paint, trowels, broom in addition to the double garage man cave

Stinkle · 24/03/2015 10:01

We have 2 sheds - 3 bed semi, average sized garden.

One is the actual shed for the lawnmower/bikes/spiders/etc

The other one is more summer housey than shed-y. DH used to work from home and it was converted (insulated and with power) into his office. I've now commandeered it as a craft/sewing/photography/farting about space

specialsubject · 24/03/2015 10:04

S+1 is certainly what it could be; but trying to reduce to S by clearing the 'just in case' bits of wood and old kitchen units. Trouble is occasionally we do need some of those bits of wood.

BlueKarou · 24/03/2015 10:11

Um... Well, I live on my own. Just me, no other human people. By the end of today I will have 4 1/2 sheds and a log store.

I am aware this is too many sheds to have. Three will soon be converted into living space for small pet animals who cannot live indoors, and the half was only bought so the cats could reach the cat flap. (Yup, there might be reason as to why I live on my own!)

One shed will remain as a true shed, containing lawnmower and the like.

MoustacheofRonSwanson · 24/03/2015 11:10

I think one is reasonable.

Former colleague put up an extra shed to keep her shoes/bags she could no longer keep in the house (3 bed terraced house containing herself and DP). Em, stop buying stuff?

UterusUterusGhali · 24/03/2015 11:14

I have a shed and a garage. Both full to bursting. :(
I want another but there's no room.

I saw a house the other day (bungalow) where there was clearly more square footage of outbuilding than house. I liked that. Grin

FuckkityUp · 24/03/2015 11:56

Instead of two sheds what about 1 shed, 1 bike shed plus the bees.

How many sheds is reasonable?
JillyR2015 · 24/03/2015 12:21

None but got double garage and a separate second single garage and don't keep cars in the garage) so that's where the stuff goes.
