How many sheds is reasonable?

Do you have more than one?

I mean, if you live in an average 3 bed semi, not a stately home with park where you might reasonably need a potting shed.

Also, does it make a difference if you don't have a garage to keep bicycles in?

Have no idea where that 'x' came from. Blush

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2015 15:10

We have two, but DH wants another one Confused

I've pointed out that if he tidied up the two he's got he wouldn't need another one.

We have a big garden so we have room for another, but I think it would breed even more clutter.

wfrances · 23/03/2015 15:10

we have a potting shed, summer house , normal shed and a tool shed ( old coal house)
and live in an average 3 bed semi.

ChablisChic · 23/03/2015 15:15

After we converted our garage into a proper room we bought a second shed. The original one was for gardening stuff, the other for bikes, deckchairs etc.

RedToothBrush · 23/03/2015 15:44

If you ask me - 1
If you ask DH - at least a couple
If you ask my Dad - well he'd keep building the damn things rather than emptying and clearing out the last one. Apparently you can never have too many according to him.
If you ask my Mum - you'll just get a huge groan!

Stinkylinky · 23/03/2015 15:45

We have two but one is massive and used as a workshop by my DH and the little one is for me and my pottering in the garden bits.

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 23/03/2015 15:49

We have three - one for bikes and the lawnmower, one for all our camping stuff (plus all the other crap you accumulate like old tins of paint) and one for OH's current project. He's turned what was a pretty big shed into an even bigger workshop for his boatbuilding although the boat is yet to be seen!

We have a big garden but don't however have a garage or a loft where most people would put all their stuff.

BoatsAgainstTheCurrent · 23/03/2015 15:51

As many as you can buy at B&Q I say. All of the sheds.

crazykat · 23/03/2015 15:51

We've got one small one but it's full of gardening tools/lawnmower/toolbox. We could do with another for the kids bikes and garden toys but have an oddly shaped garden so don't have anywhere to put one that wouldn't look daft.

If we had a garden like my parents (and a few grand spare) I'd have lawnmower, tools, garden furniture, diy stuff in the garage and 3 sheds, one for kids bikes and toys, one for the kids to play in and I'd have one set up like a mini gym with weights, cross trainer and treadmill in.

I think it's as pp have said and more about the size of the garden. If you've got a garden that's 2m x 5m and three sheds then it will look daft, if you've got a huge 30m x 10m garden then 3 or 4 sheds would look fine.

wonkylegs · 23/03/2015 16:00

I'm considering another one.
We have a largish one that is a former stable (wood, gardening stuff & furniture) , a huge garage (dangerous tools and ride on mower) and a greenhouse (planting stuff) which covers most things but I think I'd like a small potting shed next to the greenhouse as its a long way to walk back to the house for tools. We have 1.5 acres though so you could probably put up 10 and nobody would notice.

Lambzig · 23/03/2015 16:12

This thread is so annoying. We have detached house with 100ft garden at the back and the same at the front.

DH thinks we need a bike store near the drive, a tool shed in the veg patch at the back of the rear garden and another shed in the front garden so that he doesn't have to drag tools around. I told him that was utterly ridiculous, but according to this thread, he is being perfectly reasonable. Damn.

loveareadingthanks · 23/03/2015 16:13

Depends what you use them for and how much stuff you have.

My Dad has
a toolshed/random crap shed
potting shed (bit like half shed half greenhouse)
small plastic 'shed' which has garden furniture in it over winter

Boofy27 · 23/03/2015 16:14

My dad had an extra shed with a radio, mini fridge and kettle; my mother was a difficult woman, they were married for over fifty years.

My wife is happy for me to decide where we live, the house we live in and how I decorate it. She wants a 'home office', from what I can work out, this is a shed with a telly. It shall be hers.

Sheds, even third sheds, are cheaper than a divorce.

DayLillie · 23/03/2015 16:19

Ideally it would be one correctly sized shed with the lawn mower and tools, all arranged on the walls like Monty Don's, with a potting bench.

Reality is S+1

DFIL had two sheds and a garage Hmm More living room than the house.

PatrickStarxx · 23/03/2015 16:23

I have 4 shed Blush

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 23/03/2015 16:24

My dad has three, and one at the allotment. He'd have more if space (and my mother) allowed. We have one big shed, I'd like a separate bike storage shed, and I'm thinking of building some kind of lean-to/shed at the bottom of the garden for the outside toys. At the moment my garden looks like the place faded plastic craps goes to die.

BitterChocolate · 23/03/2015 16:26

We have two. One for the DC's bikes and scooters, it could have more stuff in it but we keep it fairly empty so that it's easy for the DC to get their stuff in and out without adult assistance. The other has the usual crap, gardening tools, half-used pots of paint etc.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 23/03/2015 16:29

FIL had 5 at one pint: 2 in the back garden (3 bed 50s council semi) and the other 3 on GMIL's land. One held the local Guide unit's camping gear, one had a scythe and other tools and the last was for the goat. Not quite big enough, so the goat stuck out at one end.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 23/03/2015 16:36

We've got 2 twenty foot shipping containers. Both arrived without consultation. Hmm.

We're currently looking to move, the house I have my eye on dies not have room nor access for these. There may be trouble ahead...

EveBoswell · 23/03/2015 16:42

You were listening to Gardeners' Question Time, weren't you, OP? I heard that question, too.

honeyroar · 23/03/2015 16:42

[embarrassed] Er we have seven empty stables! two sheds a henhouse and a garage. All except one stable is full ( and I use that for grooming horses) and we want another shed!

echt · 23/03/2015 16:46

No shed but massive garage that contains all the camping, decorating stuff, workbench, wood that might be useful, wood drying out to burn this winter, filing cabinets of old papers, gardening tools, beer fridge, Christmas decorations, extra chairs for any parties.

Like a lot of Australian houses there is neither a loft nor a cellar.

The car never gets in there. :o

We have a detached double garage with a pitched roof, packed to the gills. If we has sheds we'd need
1 for gardening tools, barrow, pots, compost etc
1 for camping stuff
1 for bikes and scooters and toys
1 for Brownie stuff
1 (the biggest) for DH and his workshop
and probably another for the stuff with no other home Christmas/ Halloween/ Easter stuff, garden furniture. Basically all things seasonal.
