You know ive always felt HQ deletion/banning policy was inconsistently applied but this is absolute proof!!

What she did was so so mild in comparison to what ive seen here and never mind banning, the stuff isnt even deleted. It is an absoloute joke. I honestly am starting to think HQ leap at the chance to ban certain posters whilst blatantly and repeatedly turning a blind eye to what some of their friends post. Membership conditional on how long youve been here and how up HQs arse you are Hmm

ha!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 23/03/2015 09:44

I'm absolutely boggling at thisConfused

MythicalKings · 23/03/2015 09:44

Best way to avoid being "hacked" is to log out of MN, FB etc every time you go off line.

If someone finds your phone/tablet they can access all your accounts and change your passwords.

GettingFiggyWithIt · 23/03/2015 09:45

I know who you are now! You used to post pics of that barbados dwelling bachelor boy! Why did I not know that? I used to think that your name was a fuck you to ricky gervase or dwts mr hough. I found out finally about stepbrothers just as I realised I hadn't seen you for a while.
You won't know me from Adam, I am on my 8th name change. But hacking/stalking/hassle in rl is shite and youhave my sympathies.
All the best to you x

BaronessBomburst · 23/03/2015 09:46

There is a very plausible explanation has to how, why, and by whom Derek's account was hacked.
Go and look at Relationships and you'll see there are some seriously fucked up, controlling individuals out there who pull stunts like that all the time.
:(

SurlyCue · 23/03/2015 09:48

And i have no allegiances to ESD. Im not friends with her, i dont think ive ever spoken to her. I just find it laughable that she has been banned if even temporarily for this when other vile shit is left to stand and no bannings.

Not the case at all.
If a post is reported to us, we deal with it. If it's not reported, we don't necessarily see it.
If you see anyone breaking the guidelines, please do report.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2015 09:49

This thread has been very enlightening.

Bifauxnen · 23/03/2015 09:49

Seems a feeble justification and very unfair to me.

sliceofsoup · 23/03/2015 09:57

I hope she is back soon. My mind boggles at how the T&Cs are implemented and ignored, willy nilly, it seems.

Personal attacks are out, I get that, but if someone is being an uppity fuck then they need to be told...

SurlyCue · 23/03/2015 09:57

If a post is reported to us, we deal with it.

Not with anything that resembles consistency or transparency. Its like the QI points system. Its anyones guess how a report will be dealt with.

liveloveluggage · 23/03/2015 09:57

I didn't know ESD was the SP who used to send pictures of Cliff, well I could have understood MNHQ banning her for that! But I do think that if someone is a very prolific poster they are more likely to get drawn into the odd fracas and strong language has always been acceptable on MN so those things should really be taken into account when dealing with this matter.

Psipsina · 23/03/2015 09:57

Thinking back she was very very aggressive and sounded like she meant it. She was throwing words like fucker and twat around like no tomorrow, and at various people. It was really nasty.

It wasn't just joking. The sockpuppet suggestions didn't seem terribly convincing but the rest of it sounded pretty bad.

I think the tone is sometimes more important than the words.

So I can see why they did what they did tbf.

TheFairyCaravan · 23/03/2015 09:58

I was banned for a week for calling a poster, who had goaded the fuck out of me, smug. Prior to that I had been warned once in over 6 years. I still feel hard done by.

Altinkum · 23/03/2015 10:01

Jesus I got called far worse the other day, I took no notice because its the internet.

all seems a little crazy to me. Seems like the funs been sucked out, like a ball pit with no balls Sad.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/03/2015 10:01

Rebecca - ... when we have sent previous warnings about similar behaviours.

Is there a time limit for how long previous warnings stay 'on your record'? If not, it seems to me that long term posters are at a disadvantage. If, say, you lost your shit a bit 5 years ago and got warnings at the time, then behaved impeccably until now, when you tell a GF to fuck off - is that a ban or do the 5 years of good behaviour count?

Hope to see you back soon, Derek Flowers

SurlyCue · 23/03/2015 10:01

And this isnt news to you HQ. this has been repeatedly brought to your attention (not just by me but by others in threads and in emails to you) in the last few years and each time we get denial followed finally by a wishy washy response basically restating talk guidelines.

sliceofsoup · 23/03/2015 10:02

I think the tone is sometimes more important than the words.

Tone isn't conveyed well on a screen, so the tone you read may not be the tone that the author intended.

I have been told to "calm down" before, simply for having an opposing view and stating it. Sitting here at my laptop perfectly calm. It is most odd.

Psipsina · 23/03/2015 10:04

Oh it was conveyed perfectly well yesterday.

pictish · 23/03/2015 10:05

I do think this site can be inconsistent with its deletions and warnings. I have been warned regarding personal attacks before where I genuinely didn't think I had been notably harsh, rude or personal, yet seen other posts I thought were bloody vicious left to stand. I think the line between stating your opinion and personal attack can be blurred or moved depending on circumstances. I think people cross it without meaning to as well. I have.

I have since tried quite hard to word things in a way that would not constitute a personal attack. It can be hard to get right but I think it goes a bit like this....

"Uppity fuck" - personal attack.
"I think you're being uppity" - ok.

"Goady fucker" - personal attack.
"That post was deliberately provocative" - ok.

I don't think you're really allowed to name call or swear directly 'at' people. Even if it is (in your mind) justified. It's considered a personal attack and breaks the talk guidelines. I don't think they're the only way you can personally attack someone, but they're both a no no.

I don't want to end up banned or suspended so I try to keep things fairly neutral. Sometimes I get a bit impassioned and write something that sounds fine in my head in my own tone, then bite my nails worrying about it afterwards. It's quite confusing because as I say, I have seen some stinkers left to stand. I do think how popular the poster is comes into play sometimes. A lot of it depends on whether or not the post is reported.

Best to err on the side of caution in my experience. Not always easy.

Anniegetyourgun · 23/03/2015 10:06

I think I saw that, sliceofsoup , Iirc the one who told you to calm down was a particularly goady fucker. They dug and dug, at you in particular for some reason, which you took pretty well. They must have got tired of waiting for you to get irritated and decided to behave as though you had.

sliceofsoup · 23/03/2015 10:09

In your opinion.

I didn't see the thread, ESD probably did go too far, but when she was writing it I can well believe she didn't mean it to come across the way it did.

And like I said, sometimes posters are absolutely awful and goady (not saying you were) but when another poster "bites" its that poster that gets the warning, and the goady fucker remains unscathed. Pisses me off.

OwlCapone · 23/03/2015 10:10

Esd is the new jeremy clarkson

That's a bit harsh on her.
