AIBU to think my brother owes me this money

We were due to come in to some money, basically my big brother was selling the family business and my sisters and I were going to take our shares out.
It was to be a sizeable windfall. As soon as he made the decision I knew I could make such good use of this money.
We run a pub and it really needs a facelift. My daughter lives far away overseas so we went to see her, and had a holiday as well (business class!), and I promised some money to my step daughter to up-cycle her new business venture.
On holiday we maxed out our cards, safe in the knowledge that it would all be cleared off very soon. Whilst we were away our business suffered a major set back, but again we knew we could give it a great facelift very soon.
But the minute we arrived back, my brother came over and just stated so matter-of-fairly that he actually can't bear to sell the business and that he's very sorry but there's no money. He's known for a while but didn't tell me before as he "didn't want to ruin my holiday".
AIBU to demand the money I was promised? I am in real debt now, and my business is out of full operation for a fair while too. He promised me!!

I overheard you bollocking St David.

It was glorious.

Fuck there are some humourless pricks about tonight. Sunday evening glums? Off and pack your bags and lay out your clothes for the morning and leave the OP alone.

redshoeblueshoe · 22/03/2015 22:39

ffs £8 million OP you deserve your share AND you db is a twat

WayfaringStranger · 22/03/2015 23:07

Humourless because we don't all listen to the Archers?! Okaaaaay!

Lweji · 22/03/2015 23:14

Hahaha you're so original. No one has ever thought to take a plot from TV/radio and turn it into an AIBU.

The actually funny threads usually start with "turn a book/soap/series into a AIBU"

That sounds most agreeable MrsDeVere, I'll see what I the scriptwriters can do about that.

I'm a bit [shocked] that some people have never heard of the The Archers, it's like saying you've never heard of Coronation Street.

Even if you've never watched/listened to either, it must be quite hard to be completely unaware of their existence.

CrystalCove · 23/03/2015 15:37

It's not very original or funny to take a fictional plot and pretend its your AIBU, don't see the point really.

toldmywrath · 23/03/2015 21:48

Well it cheered me up anyway.

Frowndalier · 23/03/2015 23:28

I always have r4 on in the background, as did my parents when i was growing up. It must be a comfort thing. But while gradually embracing the likes of woman's hour, today programme, PM etc I always HATED the archers and tuned it out completelt. but recognising the OP as the latest archers storyline has proved to me that I've now lost the battle. I am now in the target audience! Blush

Icimoi · 24/03/2015 08:36

I love the fact that so many people who are wandering around the MN threads are now getting so upset because their oh-so-valuable time has been wasted. Face it, if it was that valuable why have you even clicked on this thread at all?

OwlCapone · 24/03/2015 08:54

Presumably because they thought the OP needed help and advice. Giving help or advice is never wasted time.

CrystalCove · 24/03/2015 15:02

It's wasted because it's not real, where as someone could be in this situation for real and looking for help that's why.

SilentCharisma · 24/03/2015 16:27

I too am gobsmacked that some people have never heard of The Archers! I thought it was an institution! I wonder if the opening music is something they'd be familiar with, even if they didn't know it from The Archers?

Radio 4 is always on in the background at home, and in my car. It's something I inherited from my parents. I don't listen to anything else these days. I'm not an Archers follower, but I hear enough going on through having Radio 4 on all the time to know what's going on.

I didn't think I knew what was going on in that much detail, but after recognising that Kenton storyline I realise I'm following on a sub-conscious level more than I thought!

SilentCharisma · 24/03/2015 16:28

And for the record, I thought it was quite a funny thread Smile

People worrying about wasting time - you're on Mumsnet - how productive are you really being?

OwlCapone · 24/03/2015 16:47

Maybe take the time to read how I answered the other person to ask this.

Actually Helen should go on the relationships boards. so I don't have to keep shouting down the radio to her
