Not to put DS in a suit for our wedding?

We're getting married in July, he'll be almost 1. DP (and MIL) want him in a little suit as they think he will look 'adorable'. While this is obviously true can you tell he's my pfb? I also think he will look a little bit naff, and more to the point be hot and uncomfortable. I think a smart but comfy romper suit (or two, for when he inevitably ruins the first one) would be much nicer for him? He'll still be such a baby- I think he should be dressed as one? Or AIBU? It is a pretty one-off occasion, and the tiny suits are undeniably cute...

I think suits on tiny children are a bit daft. Put him in what he will be most comfortable in.

TheBitterBoy · 21/03/2015 18:21

YANBU, I think babies and toddlers in suits look awful. Each to their own, but your child, your wedding, your choice in the end.

MythicalKings · 21/03/2015 18:22

YANBU naff beyond belief.

kittensinmydinner · 21/03/2015 18:23

I'm with you. Naff naff naff... Do not doubt yourself in anyway.

CaptainAnkles · 21/03/2015 18:23

There's no reason for a one year old own a suit. Putting a baby in a suit is a daft waste of money and he's hardly likely to need it again, it's not like he has job interviews or something. I've never understood why people are so fond of dressing babies as tiny old men.
I'd get him something that he might wear again.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 21/03/2015 18:24

Children dressed as adults is a bit odd.

Tiny suits? Cringey.

Crikeyblimey · 21/03/2015 18:24

Ds was 16 months when we got married. I just dressed him in a nice pair of shorts and a stripy shirt.

Our friends' little boy is a few months older and he was in a suit. People who didn't know us very well assumed 'suit boy' was ours.

I think ds looked far better in his bright stripy shirt and shorts!

I agree. My little nephew was almost two at my wedding and was a page boy. I hate suits on children so we just put him in trousers and a shirt (with a slightly comical bow tie with sailboats on it) and kept it all comfortable and age appropriate.

He was just gorgeous and he did have a good time.

5madthings · 21/03/2015 18:26

Yanbu.

We are getting married in may and the madthings 15, 12, 10, 7 and 4 will be in jeans and shirts. That's smart enough. The youngest dd will wear a dress as she wants to and a friend is making it for her. Very simple and knee length so she can run around, climb, play and wear it again.

Aside from anything else a suit would be a huge waste of money.

If he is one? You could just get some nice trousers, cords? And a top h&m do nice ones on a budget or john Lewis. Or soft dungarees, they always look cute on little ones.

He may we be walking or trying to so rompers /babygrows with feet may not be so good.

Depending on the weather even some nice shorts and a t shirt if it's sunny!

Joyfulldeathsquad · 21/03/2015 18:26

YANBU

I prefer babies to be in soft comfy clothes. My friend brought her baby round at two weeks old and he was in jeans , a little shirt and gillet. He looked so bloody uncomfortable Sad

bumbleymummy · 21/03/2015 18:27

Summer wedding - I think nice little shorts and stripey shirt :)

5madthings · 21/03/2015 18:27

apocalypse Ds4 is super hero obsessed and I have found a batman bow tie in h&m for a couple of quid, he will love it. :)

Bin50 · 21/03/2015 18:27

could you compromise with a 'suit and tie' onesie?

Something like these here?

glittertits · 21/03/2015 18:28

Oh he's a baby - I thought this was going to be about a toddler or a child.

Absolutely not a suit!

meringue33 · 21/03/2015 18:28

Kilt

ApocalypseThen · 21/03/2015 18:29

That will be adorable, 5madthings!

Purpleball · 21/03/2015 18:29

Boys look very cute in a shirt and waistcoat with trousers. We had them like this at our wedding. Jackets look awful and are impractical on little ones IMO

isthatmorelego · 21/03/2015 18:30

Ds1 was 2 the day before my brothers wedding middle of augbit was boiling and my pfb was wedged in a morning suit of all things he looked gorgeous but was boiling straight after main photos was in shorts and T-shirt by meal time .
Personally at one he's still a baby I agree with you

AtAt · 21/03/2015 18:32

We bought something like this for ds when he was a baby tuxedo onesie

SneakretSanta · 21/03/2015 18:33

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's slightly naff! Shorts and a shirt sounds lovely - will look for something nice and bright and will show it to ambush DH when MIL isn't around. Much better than DS spending the day looking like a tiny mafioso, not to mention spending £50+ on something he'll never wear again.

Could you get a romper with a suit printed on it? Just to make it special and not look "everyday".

BackCrackAndNappySack · 21/03/2015 18:34

He will be far too young to look nice in a suit. It will look ridiculous, all bunched up and twisted.

It's a stupid idea until he's at least 3 or 4.

ghostyslovesheep · 21/03/2015 18:37

YANBU x

fruitpastille · 21/03/2015 18:37

Do dungarees and say you were inspired by Prince George - can't get posher surely? :-)

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2015 18:39

Yes, there is something a bit weird about a baby in a suit.
