Not to put DS in a suit for our wedding?

We're getting married in July, he'll be almost 1. DP (and MIL) want him in a little suit as they think he will look 'adorable'. While this is obviously true can you tell he's my pfb? I also think he will look a little bit naff, and more to the point be hot and uncomfortable. I think a smart but comfy romper suit (or two, for when he inevitably ruins the first one) would be much nicer for him? He'll still be such a baby- I think he should be dressed as one? Or AIBU? It is a pretty one-off occasion, and the tiny suits are undeniably cute...

YANBU

My DSS's and nephew wore shirt and tie from next in the sale and £5 chinos from primarni and converse. They then changed into shorts and polo shirts, also from primarni. They were comfortable, looked super cute and have all worn all of the stuff bar the tie since.

A suit will look naff imo

Your wedding... And also your DS! Need I say more? Enjoy

Toadsrevisited · 21/03/2015 18:49

Had the same dilemma about DS for a christening. I put him in a linen collarless shirt and navy linen dungarees and thought he looked comfy but smart ish. Both from John Lewis.

Lucyccfc · 21/03/2015 18:49

My DSIL dressed her DS in a suit for my wedding. He lasted all of 10 minutes before he had a huge pooh explosion and she had to rush over to Asda to buy him a complete new outfit. We still all laugh about it now.

Totally your choice what you dress your baby/toddler in. May be a bit uncomfortable in a suit at that age though, unless you can find one in a nice soft material.

SneakretSanta · 21/03/2015 18:58

Oh 5madthings that's lovely. Smart but practical and comfy. Right - I am determined. No suits. DP is away tonight... maybe I should make an executive decision and lose the receipt.

YANBU. Naff. I'm not a fan of small children in suits. I think it looks like fancy dress and uncomfortable.

Put him in something nice, comfy, cute yet smart.

MamaPizza · 21/03/2015 20:03

Maybe something like this from Vertbaudet?!

Littlef00t · 21/03/2015 20:04

I'm sure I've seen baby vests with poppers that have a collar, teamed with chinos or shorts would look cute and smartish but still comfy. Don't go for a babygrow, ds will be cruising by then so real clothes will look good.

Notso · 21/03/2015 20:09

YANBU
DS1 was 3 when we got married and wore chino type trousers, a shirt and a v necked cotton jumper (winter wedding) that matched the bridesmaid dresses.
MIL was most put out.
She got her way when BIL got married and all the page boys were crammed into top hat and tails. DN was 1 at the time and looked like a ventriloquists dummy.

ClumsyNinja · 21/03/2015 20:12

My grandson (similar age) wore a black cotton romper suit with a 'suit print' on it for our wedding. Looked super cute but obviously perfectly comfy and easy for changing.

bumbleymummy · 21/03/2015 20:12

The dungarees are very cute :)

wheresthelight · 21/03/2015 20:32

My dd was 8 weeks old at my best friends wedding and 10 when my sister got married. she had gorgeous dresses for both, she was comfortable and looked super cute.

he is your child so do whatever you want but I do agree the suit effect rompers might be a good compromise. a friend haldane for her ds and her looked adorable

BudsBeginingSpringinSight · 21/03/2015 20:35

mama vertbaudet one is GORGEOUS.

DrEllieSattler · 21/03/2015 20:38

Oh my god I ADORE this!!! If I had a DS at my wedding he would be in this!!!
gorgeous little romper

LadyGregory · 21/03/2015 20:47

Babies and toddlers, however gorgeous, look awful in suits. They never fit them properly, and of course they're not cut with small bodies in mind, so the poor little creatures look like defendants in the dock, rumpled and uncomfortable and continually pulling at their collars.

Grannycrabapple · 21/03/2015 20:50

OP I'm with you in this one. How about some lovely linen shorts and a white Tshirt...

halfdrunkcoffee · 21/03/2015 21:14

If he was five I'd say get a little suit, but at one I think that's a bit ridiculous - plus he's quite likely to be sick or poo all over it - just put him in whatever's comfortable.

vienna1981 · 21/03/2015 21:30

Dress him in whatever babies wear at that age. Anything but a bleeding suit. That would be akin to expecting the groom to wear a giant BabyGroShock .

Chchchchanging · 21/03/2015 21:31

We did brightly coloured smart chinos with white shirt and bow tie, with converse
Smart
Cute
Age appropriate

squoosh · 21/03/2015 21:39

Well I'm going against the Mumsnet tenet that states that children wearing anything other than babygros or shorts and stripy t-shirt till they're 12 years old is a gross offence. Shorts and t-shirts are for popping to the park or visiting Granny. Some of you have no sense of occasion.

I think babies look super cute dressed up a bit. Maybe not a suit, I'd possibly plump for the elderly professor look, cords, sleeveless jumper, bow-tie.

GreenPetal94 · 21/03/2015 21:41

I'd go for a shirt as opposed to a t shirt with dungarees or maybe tiny chinos. I think a suit will be expensive and uncomfortable.

PunkrockerGirl · 21/03/2015 21:43

YANBU. Suits on babies/toddlers are just wrong imo.

AGirlCalledBoB · 21/03/2015 21:45

I would not put him in a suit but at one I think a romper would look naff as well to be honest.

I would maybe go shorts and a really nice shirt.

MoanCollins · 21/03/2015 21:51

YANBU, I think babies in suits is very bad taste.
