To think kids should not be out at 8am

MozzchopsThirty · 21/03/2015 11:17

Screaming and shouting in the street, riding fucking scooters past my bedroom window, not even outside their own house!!!!

Would it kill people to amuse their children until 9am
I don't have my dcs this weekend, and even if I did they wouldn't be out in the street at 8am

AIBU to want a lie in until 9am, I get up for work every bloody day!!

Or am I turning into grumpy old woman?

Buy a fan. Turn it to full blast and put a blanket over it. Buy silicon earplugs. Hear FA. Bliss.

SoonToBeSix · 21/03/2015 11:20

Yabu it's healthy for kids to play out, maybe buy some ear plugs.

icklekid · 21/03/2015 11:20

If they have been up since 5am maybe be grateful! I don't think 8am is unreasonable!

MozzchopsThirty · 21/03/2015 11:21

Yes I get that it's healthy for children to play outside! Mine do, but not at 8am waking up all and sundry

YABU I think 8am is perfectly acceptable and when they're teenagers they be making their noise at the other end of the day.
Suck it up, buttercup!

wheresthelight · 21/03/2015 11:22

8am is perfect reasonable.

you are entitled to a lie in but yabu to think that means you have the right to dictate how everyone else chosen to live their lives.

the twins next door to me are regularly out playing in their garden at that time and it drives my dog mental that she can hear their shouts and squeals but I love hearing them playing and enjoying their childhood

paxtecum · 21/03/2015 11:22

Go to bed earlier if you want more sleep.
It was beautiful sunshine at 8 this morning, far too good to miss.

VelvetRuby · 21/03/2015 11:25

8 am isn't so early but I'd be a bit more considerate of my neighbours at weekends I think. I walk my dog early on Saturday and Sunday and very few people seem to be out and about before 10 here.

Purplepoodle · 21/03/2015 11:25

No wouldn't have mine outside at 8am. Would make them wait until 9am. Buy earplugs they work brilliantly

MozzchopsThirty · 21/03/2015 11:26

Suck it up buttercup!! Who do people on MN think they're talking to?? Do you talk to RL people in that way??
I actually have a teen too, but she doesn't keep neighbours awake at night.

I guess I'm just a grumpy old woman then Grin
I think 9am on a weekend should be the starting time for any noise, mowing of lawns etc GrinGrinGrin

'Suck it up, buttercup.'

What a dickheaded thing to say.

I don't think it's too early, but honestly try the fan/earplug combo it saved my bacon.

JanineStHubbins · 21/03/2015 11:31

What does the fan do,expat? Create a kind of drone sound?

WorraLiberty · 21/03/2015 11:31

YANBU really OP

We had a 9am rule when our kids were little

I'm not quite sure why we picked 9am but it just seemed like a pretty ok time.

CheshireCait · 21/03/2015 11:32

YANBU. I wouldn't let mine out that early either, and we weren't allowed when we were kids. 9 is time enough for them to be out.

GraysAnalogy · 21/03/2015 11:33

I think expat has that tip on copy and paste now Grin I have to say it does work.

Life doesn't stop because you want a lie in OP, 8am is reasonable.

Xmasbaby11 · 21/03/2015 11:33

8am is very early - they should play quietly til 9am. Yanbu!

NickiFury · 21/03/2015 11:34

YANBU. Very selfish.

ThroughThickandThin · 21/03/2015 11:35

YANBU. I think its too early if they're making a racket.

9am is more reasonable.

HoggleHoggle · 21/03/2015 11:36

I use a fan for noise too - it's loud enough that you focus on that rather than the other sound, I find, but unobtrusive enough so that you can still sleep.

8am is tricky. It's hardly the crack of dawn but I can see it is still too early if you have the opportunity of a lie in.

Ds wakes at 5.30 though so 8am feels like the middle of the day...

TyrannosaurusBex · 21/03/2015 11:37

Mine go out as soon as it's light! I do keep noise levels down until 9ish, though.

AmysTiara · 21/03/2015 11:37

I think 8 is a little early, lots of people like a lie in after a week at work. Nine seems reasonable to me.

I don't agree with the post telling the op to go to bed earlier. She can go when she likes

fatlazymummy · 21/03/2015 11:38

I think 8 am is fine on a Saturday, but too early for a Sunday. To me, Saturday is a normal working day.
Having said that, I don't think children should be screaming and shouting at all, really. If my kids were being too noisy I'd tell them to be more quiet. It is possible for them to play and enjoy themselves without disturbing the whole street.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/03/2015 11:39

Yanbu. 9am is completely acceptable, 8am is not. I thought that was just a social norm since forever?

"Suck it up buttercup" - nobody can actually speak like that, surely?!

expatinscotland · 21/03/2015 11:39

Yes, Janine, it makes a white noise and far cheaper than a white noise machine. I take one with me everywhere. I have several sets of earplugs in various bags so I don't get caught out. I have PTSD and serious problems sleeping.

My other tips - melatonin (buy it online), Clipper sleepy tea, Avon Sleep Therapy spray.

Oh, and in summer, buy those cheapo windscreen shields in Poundland and tape them to your windows, on top of blackout curtains.

CuttedUpPear · 21/03/2015 11:40

Wouldn't a fan with a blanket over it be a fire hazard?

Or is that the idea - the sirens of the fire engine will drown out the happy cries of the children enjoying the morning sunshine?

....buttercup Grin Grin
