my son is in year 7 and just told me he needs to go to the shops and get theses supplys for school project. tin foil, lolly sticks, bamboo or strawers. it does not sound like much i know. but i really dont want to spend sunday hunting down lolly sticks and i thought schools were meant to supply theses things.

To bite ob the school trips bait..... School budgets don't pay for to
go on trips, the company who are taking the trip( zoo, skiing etc) generally offers 1 free (included) adult place per 10 kids.
So yeah, you're wrong!

Salmotrutta · 18/03/2015 22:41

alongcamespiders - epic fail there.

eejit

School budgets tend to go september to July. So by the time June rolls around all that's left is brown paint and pink sugar paper.
And, (biting and derailing simultaneously) yep, teachers organise trips to enjoy the fun and stress free larks of taking 50 kids on trips. Just as relaxing as a week in Majorca.

Why deletion, salmo?

She is an eejit for posting such guff.

Salmotrutta · 18/03/2015 22:51

Well Rhonda I just thought I'd get deleted for "a personal attack".

i.e. Calling her (or him) an eejit.

Which of course he/she is. Oh yes.

its not plenty of notice at all not if you dont drive and also work. and as i have said few times now in alot of pain. it gives one weekend to get the items and for people that are busy does not give much notice. oh well sure it will be sorted older daughter will go with him to wikos

OP posts:
AliceMcGee · 19/03/2015 07:49

yanbu. art is a national curriculum lesson and as such you do not have to provide supplies

wannabestressfree · 19/03/2015 07:54

The next day is 'not plenty of notice'.
Why can't your son get them. You are making a huge deal out of nothing. It's gives him all weekend!!

ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 07:55

that what i thought alice my oldest is 17 and i was never asked for anything when she was at school. and have never been asked for anything im primary school either. first time i have ever been asked for anything... but from this thread it seems to be quite normal. i dont mind doing it just did not know if it was the norm. oh well

OP posts:
ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 07:58

who said anything about the next day. but if you think the next day is plenty of time thats madness... its not a hugedeal i was just asking.....

he can get them. but it just might be better if his sister is with him might be more chance between 2 of getting them.

OP posts:
wannabestressfree · 19/03/2015 08:01

I meant if they asked for things the next day it would be too much.
This is plenty of notice. Or just don't send them. No one is forcing you and I ezpect the teacher will have spares.

ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 08:03

oh ok... if they got them in wilkos or in the same town all good. if not wont be much can do. but hopefully will.

LIZS · 19/03/2015 08:22

www.theworks.co.uk/p/craft-hobbies/150-assorted-wooden-sticks/kit05270 any good ? Do you have a local Works branch, Hobbycraft or even pound stores

Pengweng · 19/03/2015 08:45

I get most of my kids art stuff from Amazon, cheap and next day delivery using Prime.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 19/03/2015 08:54

Poundland or The Works, The Range etc.

Hardly difficult.

Y7 is secondary school so I suppose he goes to school by himself, so why can't he go shopping with his friends to buy the stuff or even by himself?

Genuinely baffled as my DC would have and do go shopping by themselves.

ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 09:07

he can go by himself but he does not like to. he does not really see friends outside of school again because hedoes not want to.

i forgot about the works. yes there is one in town. so will go there. im 99% they would have it in works. if not then wilkos and they both same place so all good :)

OP posts:
HicDraconis · 19/03/2015 09:08

It doesn't sound like much and you have plenty of time. Order online, or go into town Sunday. Seems a bit crap that you can't be arsed to spend Sunday looking for bits for your son's school but you're expecting his sister to give up a day of her weekend to sort it.

We have to provide all art supplies, plus all stationery for the year - books, pens, notepads, pencils, glue sticks, whiteboard markers, box of tissues - and replace as needed. Think you're lucky to be honest!

ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 09:14

omg i keep saying on this thread that im heavely pregnant and im in alot of pain and im also working all week yes i have sunday. but why should i walk about in so much pain that i can bearly walk. and no its not enough notice saying next day delivery is all well and good but that does not always happen. all its need is to be a crappy courier...

but anyway as a poster up there said. the works should have it all. if not then wilkos. so son and daughter will only need to go to 1 or 2 shops

OP posts:
wannabestressfree · 19/03/2015 11:21

Then tell your son to go..... It's for him after all!

WhyNotSmile · 19/03/2015 19:39

And if he can't find them, could he/you go to a local coffee shop or cafe and ask whether they could give/sell you some? They probably have loads of straws, and you could maybe use those wooden stirrer things in place of the lollipop sticks (depending on the project).

ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 20:32

i recon can probably find them 99% sure the works or wilkos will have them

OP posts:
pookamoo · 19/03/2015 20:38

When they say "bamboo" do they just mean bbq skewers? Wilko should have those too? If not, they will definitely have straws.

ghostspirit · 19/03/2015 20:53

well it said bamboo or straws. so probably easyer to go for the straws
