To think my DB is far too young to watch Game of Thrones

He's 12 and in year 7.
My DM doesn't pay the blindest bit of attention to anything he watches. I'm only thankful he doesn't have internet access.
Am I being uptight? I think 12 is a bit too young, perhaps in another year or two.
He's not mature at all.

OP posts:

And if we had a swearing drinking game I'd have to insert a cannula & drip.

pointythings · 16/03/2015 20:15

My DDs are 14 and 12 - no way will they be watching GoT any time soon - not before age 16 IMO. I love the show, it's brilliant, but it is for adults.

LadyDeadpool · 16/03/2015 20:16

Ooh look cocks we obviously don't see enough of those in GoT Hmm I suspect the daily heilers have arrived.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 16/03/2015 20:16

If it wasn't for the sex I'd let DS (12) watch it.

I don't think it's all that violent. Some gruesome bits, but nothing that bad.

Moln · 16/03/2015 20:19

Seriously Greymalkin Theons torture is worse in the book?

Due to that a the other things you mentioned I may change my mind about reading!!!

12 is far to young. Every mature and sensible ones.

OP tell your mum about the homosexual sex if she things that's wrong in her warped mind

CrispyFern · 16/03/2015 20:19

I think GOT is far far worse than GTA.

Letting a 12/13 year old watch it is ridiculously irresponsible. I can't fathom how someone can justify it by saying their daughter likes the strong women! If you are having to fast forward torture scenes, that is a strong hint that it's not suitable for your child.

(I find that much more shocking than a picture of a knob. If anyone wonders why I am saying that in the future it's because there was one in a post just above.)

KittensOnAPlane · 16/03/2015 20:23

Agreed, this is MUMSnet, i'm guessing most of us have seen a knob (hahahaha) either that or some kind of virgin birth??

anyway - i stick with my original post, way to graphic for children

Trooperslane · 16/03/2015 20:28

Waaaayyyyyy too young. Both in terms of content and themes.

Greymalkin · 16/03/2015 20:39

I'm afraid so Moln...

They are great books though, despite the sick stuff. Arya has a great storyline coming, and Bran, and Dani, and Tyrion!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/03/2015 21:29

Bran is not in series 5, apparently.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 16/03/2015 21:35

No Bran?

He's really grown up. He'll be an adult in a year or so.

Hodor carrying him around will be completely unfeasable.

I've developed a bit of a crush on Ramsay Snow/Bolton. He's not my usual type.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/03/2015 21:41

My goodness. Not the character, I hope! The actor seems pleasant enough.

Moln · 16/03/2015 21:47

Ramsey Snow. Unusual choice for a crush - is it his psychopathic traits that appeal? Smile

I'm more inclined towards the other Snow

iklboo · 16/03/2015 21:48

Very reassuring to know that raving, torturing psychopaths aren't your usual type Joff.

iklboo · 16/03/2015 22:35

You nurr nothin' Jon Snurrrr

iklboo · 16/03/2015 22:36

The Ramsey Snow actor was in Vicious with Sir Ian McKellan & Derek Jacobi. He was ever so nice in that.

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 16/03/2015 22:40

Yes. The character.

Confused

He doesn't even have a beard...

He does make me laugh. "No! It's just pork sausage!' I am a sucker for a man who makes me laugh...

Moln · 16/03/2015 22:46

He was in the Misfits too wasn't he?

Yes KingJoff it's him doesn't have a beard I thought it disturbing you find him attractive

KingJoffreyFanciesDarylDixon · 16/03/2015 22:51

It's disturbing that I fancy any man without a bread...

HotSquashedBun · 16/03/2015 23:22

12 is far too young. Really I think 17/18+ for GoT. I have to look away for lots of the violence, I love the series but can't watch the violence.
At least with the books I could just not visualise it. I read the viper/clegane fight but cannot watch it onscreen.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 16/03/2015 23:31

Yes, he was in the Misfits, I liked him in that. Not in GoT though. He's a little bit too torturery for me in that.

NobodyLivesHere · 17/03/2015 04:23

Lets try that again, crazy 5mins by my phone! ....I wouldn't let her watch breaking bad, to me the difference is the reality. GoT is clearly fiction/fantasy. We watch it together. I'm ok with it.

goodnessgraciousgouda · 17/03/2015 04:33

Twelve? Are,you joking? I could consider 15-16 year olds. Watching it with me. With me lecturing them afterwards about objectification of women and consent.

and I would want them to read the books first as well.

sashh · 17/03/2015 06:05

I think a good rule of thumb is Maisie Williams who plays Arya. She is 16, her parents won't let her read the books, they have told her as much as she needs to know to play the part.I think there are 2 problems with a child watching, one is the graphic content and the other is the story is quite involved so a 12 year old might not follow everything in the story and just be jumping from sex to violence to sec with violence back to violence and repeat.

Cabbagesaregreen · 17/03/2015 06:14

Fantastic programme. Certainly not for under 16-18. I am really surprised anyone would think it ok for under regardless of maturity. What a twisted view of the world to put upon a child.
