to give my mum a free foot painted charity card and some nasturtium seeds I saved from last year

I've got oodles of these charity cards that would of ended up in the bin had I not saved them, a recycled envelope from my gas bill yesterday and some seeds I harvested last year. I've scribbled out birthday and replaced it with mothers. Its the thought that counts right?

Aibu to give these free gifts for mothers day? I'm not into it, but she really is.

My fb is full of over the top bouquets, that probably cost a fortune, I just think that's all a bit of a waste even though I could afford it.

Was going to say, yes, that sounds lovely until the scribbling out Birthday bit.
Mine just gets a phone call as she's not too bothered. I guess it depends on how DM will feel.

Tutteredboast · 15/03/2015 08:29

or is this a reversi?

NerrSnerr · 15/03/2015 08:30

Must be a reverse?

keepsmiling2015 · 15/03/2015 08:31

It sounded great until scribbling out birthday. Just a bit mean, surely you can do better for your mother.

SueChef · 15/03/2015 08:31

?

TagineKaput · 15/03/2015 08:33

I agree this must be a reverse, surely?

Salmotrutta · 15/03/2015 09:38

If your Mum is really into Mother's Day then I seriously doubt that a card with "birthday" scribbled out and a packet of seeds from last year is going to cut the mustard.

And if this is a reverse, then I'd be responding depending on the age of the giver.

So, very young child OK because they generally don't have much disposable income, older child not so OK because they could make something etc., adult or teen child absolutely not OK to be scribbling out words on a free card.

ilovesooty · 15/03/2015 10:01

If I were your mother I'd sooner get nothing at all.
If your intention is to demonstrate indifference and contempt you've probably nailed it.

IrmaGuard · 15/03/2015 10:04

You're a charmer. AS confirmed it.

ouryve · 15/03/2015 10:05

You could at least add some fancy salt to the gift bundle.

SuburbanRhonda · 15/03/2015 10:11

Nice one, OP.

You had us all going there.

sPJPPp · 15/03/2015 10:26

Lol this isn't a reverse, its just a card. Crossing out the default message and writing my own I thought seemed more personal. I've probably gone to more effort with that and recycling the envelope than most people went to picking up fancy flowers.

I'd be insulted.that's just taking the piss.

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 15/03/2015 10:49

I think it is rude. It's not the cost that matters, but you've evidently not given it any thought either. I wouldn't bother if I were you as you obviously don't think much of Mother's Day.

ilovesooty · 15/03/2015 10:51

Of course it's rude and the OP knows it is. She doesn't care though.

MrsCakesPrecognitionisSwitched · 15/03/2015 10:52

Cares enough to start a boasty thread.

Chillyegg · 15/03/2015 10:53

Oh god, why are you bothering. If it was a plain card lovly otherwise no

MardyBra · 15/03/2015 11:02

Of course YABU. Either way for being an thoughtless tightwad. Or for starting a reverse.

ilovesooty · 15/03/2015 11:03

Of course she cares enough to start the thread.
Attention seeking.
