To think if you can't be prepared don't try piggy back on my work

This is with regards to a colleague. He drives me potty, he leaves everything to the last minute and never delivers on agreed deadlines, not really my problem you'd say but we perfrom as a team and are rated (for bonuses) as a team, so I often have to bail him out, or not get the bonus myself. He also will soon be reporting into me, so it's really going to become my problem to deal with.

I just want to slap him today, a week ago I told him about a meeting we had with the execs and that they'd picked topic XYZ (an area colleague is not strong in) I hoped he would do some research and at least make sure he could answer questions without looking like a muppet. I reminded him on Monday and yesterday, and again this morning. "it's on the list" is the response I get... now 30 minutes before the meeting, while I'm trying to eat lunch in peace he's stressing, and panicking and asking me all sorts of questions about the topic

No you would not bu! Especially if on this occasion it has no direct effect on you/your performance. Hopefully he'll fall flat on his face and realise what you have done for him previously!

Thank you - I was starting to feel like a bitch, but he's taken credit for my work previously when I've bailed him out, and on addressing it with our manager, I was told it's a team effort it doesn't matter who does the work.
