Some one stole my boots!

BeeRayKay · 12/03/2015 12:00

Went to the gym this morning.

My boots wouldn't fit in a normal locker, and I didn't want to use a disabled persons locker.

So put them under the bench, after seeing a few other ladies do the same with theirs.

Came back. GONE.

Someone stole my brand new 48hour old boots.

I'm gutted.

I know I shouldn't take stuff thats valuable.

But AIBU to think it's not okay to just take someone elses stuff?

YABU to ask if you ABU to think it's not ok to just take someone else's stuff Grin

Of course it's U. That's why it's a crime!

Flossyfloof · 12/03/2015 12:06

Ask to see cctv

PeterParkerSays · 12/03/2015 12:08

Ask at reception - they'll have CCTV on the reception area. They may get someone leaving with them.

Flipchart · 12/03/2015 12:11

I doubt they would have CCTV in that part of the changing room due to privacy reasons.
How bloody galling when some one does that to you.
Sad

MagicHouse · 12/03/2015 12:13

Something similar happened to me, except it was my daughter's new school shoes that were stolen. I agree it's an absolute shock when it happens, with that disbelief that someone can just rifle through your stuff and steal shoes, with no consideration at all about the impact this might have on finances etc. There's not a lot you can do, except ask the gym to put warning notices up that to watch out for belongings. I never leave anything of value now. I always was quite careful about leaving anything lying around but it never occurred to me anyone would steal shoes! Especially a child's shoes. I hope you're able to get a lovely replacement pair. Flowers

CCTV of exit not of the changing rooms

BooChunky · 12/03/2015 12:35

That's awful... It happened to me at a softplay with DD's coat! I wanted to cry...

Definitely ask the gym about it.

BeeRayKay · 12/03/2015 12:44

We do have to scan in and out.

I asked at reception and she took my details and said they'd call if any one handed them in .

I said they weren't lost, they'd been taken and she said that I was wrong.

Proper gutted :-(

Glad to see some others agree with me. Round here you can forget that actually most people don't steal.

(At least once a day you see a post on the selling sites about how they've been broken into/had their bag stolen/etc)

Ask them for the CCTV, and tell them that you intend going to the police (whether you do or don't!) it suits them to sweep stuff like this under the carpet.

I'd be so mad! Did you have to wear your trainers to work?!

Quitelikely · 12/03/2015 12:48

How awful!

Were they super pricey too?

championnibbler · 12/03/2015 13:00

That's horrible.
sorry to read that.
some people will just take anything, won't they?
you have to nail everything to the ground these days, otherwise it will be swiped.

petalsandstars · 12/03/2015 13:09

Report the theft to the police. They will miraculously be more helpful you would hope

VegasIsBest · 12/03/2015 13:30

"I said they weren't lost, they'd been taken and she said that I was wrong. "

Suggest you go back, ask to speak to the manager and get this taken seriously. Say you'll report theft to the police if they don't try to look into this.

HungryHorace · 12/03/2015 13:34

What Vegas said. Don't let them sweep it under the carpet.

CheeseandPickledOnion · 12/03/2015 13:40

Yes, go back and speak to a Manager. I'd have flipped if someone suggested I had lost my shoes, when in fact they were blatantly stolen while in a changing room.

SugarplumKate · 12/03/2015 13:44

All my daughters clothes were stolen at the pool during lessons. No lockers there buy a separate changing room for the children having lessons (big military sports centre). They were never recovered and she had to go home in some clothes from lost property. She was mortified! She was 11 and it was her school uniform!!

Number3cometome · 12/03/2015 13:47

This happened to me once - AT WORK!!!

About a year ago, some police officers suddenly rushed in the gym and grabbed some guy. Apparently he had signed up to the gym, but literally just used the membership to go in the changing rooms and steal people's stuff!! They had clocked on to him, reported him and watched him - then pounced!

This was a well known gym in the City. I was shocked, he was a suit and tie kind of guy and everything. Shocking.

CarbeDiem · 12/03/2015 13:47

They won't get handed in as someone, on purpose, stole them.
Maybe do try the manager first and see what they say, if it's still not taken seriously then go to the Police.

Good luck.

hennybeans · 12/03/2015 13:55

At soft play once I went to put my DS's shoes on and they wouldn't go on his feet easily. Looked inside and they were someone else's shoes- exact same brand and style but 1.5 sizes smaller!!

They had been under our table surrounded by all our other shoes so I'm convinced someone saw them, realised they were the same as their DS and swapped for a bigger size! Argh.

I would second asking to see the CCTV coming out of the changing rooms to see who is carrying the boots. Don't be fobbed off.

ArcheryAnnie · 12/03/2015 13:55

I said they weren't lost, they'd been taken and she said that I was wrong.

This is out of order. Do tell them that you are reporting the theft to the police. This may help motivate them to pull their socks up.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 12/03/2015 13:58

What did you wear on your feet so?

I would have refused to leave the gym until they had contacted every person that had used the changing room until they found the person that had mistakenly relieved you of your footwear.

Go back and make sure that they take you seriously. As for the receiptionst who said that you were wrong to say that they had been taken - ask how else they would describe the fact that your boots were there one minute (as per all the others) and gone the next.

Rude and stupid they were.

Good luck!

Flipchart · 12/03/2015 14:03

I think it is going to difficult to track anyone down to be honest. You may have the names of people who have accessed the changing room but how can you prove they have taken them.
What if it was a member of staff who had taken them?

Sadly, I can't see how they can be responsible for processions that are left out I do understand it is common practice and the lockers are quite small, it's the sme in my gym.
There is usually a disclaimer in the changing room and they have provided you with a locker (albeit to small for boots)

chrome100 · 12/03/2015 14:04

The exact same thing happened to me earlier this year, except they stole my manky trainers whilst I was swimming. I had to walk home in my socks in the rain.

FuckingLiability · 12/03/2015 14:05

I've left my boots or shoes under the bench before in the gym changing room, though only if they're old ones. I'd never leave a new pair out for that reason.

How annoying for you though, I'd be livid.
