Aibu to think that Winnie the Pooh wallpaper is okay for a 6 and 7 year olds bedroom?

Just found a really cute wallpaper for my kids new bedroom in our new house, it's Winnie the Pooh, tigger, piglet and eyore all sleepy on moons, stars and clouds. My daughter is just 7 and my son is nearly 6. They will be sharing a big room for the first year or so and it's really hard to find something unisex and I do really want to use wallpaper. Just told my mum (who detests kids "character" bedroom themes) and she said it sounds like wallpaper for a baby's room! Don't know what to do, I think it's sweet wallpaper, my daughter likes it and my son (who has autism and much younger in himself than his actual age) does not really care as long as he can still have some Thomas the tank engine pictures up. All the other nice wallpapers I have found are about 70 pounds a roll and I will need to buy pink for one side of the room and blue for the other, the Winnie wallpapers about 10pounds a roll. It's my last chance to do a young children's bedroom as when my daughter moves into her own room over the next couple of years she will probably want something more grown up by then. Aibu to think Winnie is okay for my kids or am I treating them like babies? Should they have something more grown up now?

Winnie the Pooh is cute, I don't think they are too old for it at all.

MrsFlannel · 11/03/2015 22:35

Well it really is up to you...but I think it's unwise as your Dd may want to change it very soon.

Why don't you look at something like this star wallpaper instead?

mommy2ash · 11/03/2015 22:35

if they like it then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

BigRedBall · 11/03/2015 22:39

If they like it that's all that matters. I think my 7 yr old dd would like it too.

DamnBamboo · 11/03/2015 22:39

They will be fed up with this in a very short period of time and will want to change this. 'It's your last chance to do a young children's bedroom' makes me think this is for you and not for them. £70 a roll? Where on earth are you shopping

Why not just get something neutral but not so young. Like planet paper or doodle paper etc.

DamnBamboo · 11/03/2015 22:41

and I will need to buy pink for one side of the room and blue for the other

Why?

Lurkingforanswers · 11/03/2015 22:42

I don't think there's anything wrong with your choice of wallpaper but what about a plain colour and then adding framed prints etc that suit their tastes so that it feels more like they have a stamp on their own room.

meglet · 11/03/2015 22:43

it's cute but they'll be bored of it and wanting something cool in a year or so.

Pooh is a genius but I think you've missed the boat with he wallpaper.

Lurkingforanswers · 11/03/2015 22:43

Sorry for posting twice there Blush

Clueing4looks · 11/03/2015 22:43

When my two had to share i let them choose. I did one wall tinkerbell, one wall Thomas the tank and painted the rest pale blue. Wilkos or the range are cheaper for character stuff

QueQuesto · 11/03/2015 22:44

It does sound like it's for a baby's room tbh. Why not go for a plain colour and jazz it up with accessories that can be changed?

CocktailQueen · 11/03/2015 22:48

I think it'd be too babyish for my ds, who is 7. I'd go for a plain, neutral colour and use different colours of accessories, duvet sets and room stickers to brighten it up. Much easier to change and to update!

SugarplumKate · 11/03/2015 22:53

I'd go for plain and let them choose duvets, pictures, rugs etc to suit their own tastes.

ophiotaurus · 11/03/2015 22:58

I think it's too babyish sorry.

BackforGood · 11/03/2015 22:59

Fine for a 6 and 7 yr old, but they will very soon outgrow this - I don't re-paper that often, so I would go with plain walls and posters or art work of some kind along with duvet covers that they can update as their tastes change.

Where on earth are you shopping to find wall paper at £70 a roll ? Confused

BubblesInMyBath · 11/03/2015 23:01

I'd def go with plain and then accessorise with pooh if u still want. Least it's less work if they do outgrow it. Bedrooms are for sleeping in and I find wallpaper can be too busy/overstimulating as a grown woman, I imagine children might even more so

ChillySundays · 11/03/2015 23:01

Plain walls and let them choose the duvet covers and pictures

zukiecat · 11/03/2015 23:01

I think it sounds very sweet, and my DDs would have loved it at age 7.

They had princesses and fairies until about age 13 (their choice)

TheLastThneed · 11/03/2015 23:05

If they like it then I would go for it, but be prepared for then to get sick of it which may, or may not, happen.

26Point2Miles · 11/03/2015 23:05

Think it's too babyish too

We sell it at work, it's in the nursery section.

1lov3comp5 · 11/03/2015 23:06

My dd is nearly 7 and has a mickey/Minnie mouse mural on her wall and HATES it as she says it's far too babyish....I would class Winnie the pooh as younger again

AmysTiara · 11/03/2015 23:06

My Ds is 7 and wouldn't want it, I do think it's a bit babyish for a 7 year old

MrsBennington · 11/03/2015 23:07

My son requested I change his Poo lampshade as it was babyish a year ago. When he was five :(

Toni29 · 11/03/2015 23:18

Thank you for your wallpaper recommendation mrs flannel it's nice I never thought of using something like that. Nice to know that other 7year olds would have like Winnie too but also interesting that lots would find it too baby-ish, I don't want their friends to come round and laugh at them for having a baby's room! I think I might go down the neutral coloured
walls with their choice of wall stickers route, that way if they get bored it can be changed easily
