Could just as easily collect the poo and still mark the spot on the ground where they found it?

Totally appreciate I'm being U as it's the fault of irresponsible dog owners, and why should the council workers clean it up BUT I doubt the people who left it there will care that it's now bright orange, so I'm struggling to see the point of spraying it....

Is it to prove that a council dog waste bin and collection is very much needed in the area?

Someone please say they've seen something similar and this isn't just our neighbourhood poo-spraying weirdo... Smile

Clearing up doesn't solve the problem. I think it's to highlight the problem, and make lazy feckless owners realise that it isn't something others don't notice or don't care about.

KellyElly · 09/03/2015 16:32

What??? I have never seen this.

finnbarrcar · 09/03/2015 16:33

There's loads of them round our way. It's a spray painted stencil of a mutt squatting to do a dump...and then the real live dump is just sitting there. Gross.

MythicalKings · 09/03/2015 16:34

I wish they'd spray the owners.

olgaga · 09/03/2015 16:35

I've seen this in a few different places over the years. I thought it was a great idea - especially when I had DD in the pram/buggy and frequently had to clean wheels and shoes when I got home.

It means you can see it and avoid it.

Why would you expect other people to clean it up?

Pocketsfullofpoobags · 09/03/2015 21:26

Only reason I can see the other side, that they should/could clean it up is because people drive for miles to walk their dogs here, it's very well known as a dog walking spot and right next to a brand new housing development, yet there isn't a dog waste bin for miles.

No excuse in my opinion as we always bag our dog's poo, take it home and put it in our own bin.

BUT that's why I assumed the spraying was to prove the need for dog waste bins, rather than someone being paid to go around spray painting poo in the vain hope that the dirty bastards who are at fault would be shamed into changing their ways.

Fly tipping/littering is also a huge problem/hazard but spraying it orange won't make people stop doing dumping it.

Agree that at the very least it makes dog turds easier to avoid, though!

I'm a dog owner & other people's dog poo drives me bonkers. It is pure laziness. I have even been known to pick up & bag some other dogs. I really don't get why people do it - or rather don't do it.

hmc · 09/03/2015 21:30

Yabu - why the chuff should they pick it up. We had a variation of this near our school - someone chalked a circle around dog poos and wrote "no thank poo". It had the desired effect - seemed to shame the offender into cleaning up after their dog and there are no more turds for the school children to dodge

I might try that, hmc.

I shamed someone into picking up their dog's poo on the school run today. I'm on a one woman mission!

WD41 · 09/03/2015 21:39

Why on earth would people wish to deal with some random animal shit? That should be the owners job.

Spraying it alerts people to it and helps stop people track it all around

BerniceBroadside · 09/03/2015 21:49

What kind of spray do they use? I'm assuming it must be some sort of washable paint? I think it still have some coloured hair spray in the cupboard, I wonder if that would work?

AliceLidl · 09/03/2015 22:01

I'm quite tempted to start spraying the poo left on the streets near us.

It would make the walk to school a lot easier in terms of avoiding the stuff, plus it would prove to the council how bad the problem is.

I quite like the sound of the German way of doing things too, I'd pay for that licence for my dogs.

Someone near us put a sign up, "Christmas was months ago, please take your dog's 'gifts' with you." I'm tempted to print one for our fence as well Grin

olgaga · 09/03/2015 22:18

writersbench.co.uk/supplies/molotow-chalk-spray-paint/

This s the kind of stuff they use - coloured hairspray is also soluble but probably quite expensive!

olgaga · 09/03/2015 22:19

Sorry about the link fail - no idea how to do it on my phone.

CleanHankie · 09/03/2015 23:45

The people who do the painting our way are our Council Park Rangers. They use a different colour each day for a week, just to show how much isn't picked up. They target a Nature Reserve that is very popular with dog walkers, and ensure there are plenty of signs up re bins, enquire if you need any bags if they encounter you while out walking, and use the notice boards to state how many separate incidents of dog poo being left there has been each day.

Pocketsfullofpoobags · 10/03/2015 12:21

I think it's a good idea in theory but I doubt it'll work here until we have bins - again, no excuse - the owners should bloody well carry it to a bin, wherever the nearest one is.

Hilariously, some people in our neighborhood are now outraged by the distasteful orange paint splodges everywhere (unlikely they're the same people responsible for the turds in the first place) and are already forming some sort of neighborhood poo-watch, so they can't win.

I agree with MythicalKings - spray the owners. Job done Grin

We have it locally too, I think it's awful, after all the poo doesn't last very long but the horrible orange spray paint is still there weeks later. Is it done by council employees or is it just neighbourhood vigilantes?

mousmous · 10/03/2015 12:46

I don't get the issue with 'no bin provided' just take the shit home with you and put it on your bin. lazy feckers, if you don't like that idea don't get a dog.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/03/2015 12:56

Disclaimer: not a dog owner.

Can the owners not slide the plastic bag under the dogs bum when it does that crouchy squatty thing, then the poo won't go on the pavement at all ?

Could add it into training? Lots of people use those puppy pads indoors , a plastic bag (carrier bag maybe? ) could be used.

I've seen dogs going into the poo mode, their owners just stand there and pretend they're not with them Hmm

mousmous · 10/03/2015 13:06

in the us dogs are trained to poo in the street gutter?
would that work here?

BullshitS70 · 10/03/2015 13:13

I complained to the council today about the shit all the kids need to avoid in order to get to school and back every day.

I object strongly to having not only to look at a pile of shit, twice a day, but also talk about it with the kids 'MIND THE POO', 'WALK AROUND THE POO' etc. I would quite like to talk about their homework or who they would like to come for their next playdate, but am forced to talk about shit.

I am so fed up with it

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/03/2015 13:20

poo in the gutter would only work if it was flushed into the drains, otherwise when you get out or in the car (in the dark) or your DC don't look where they stand when they get out.

I've had this experience on my own bloody drive and I don't even have a dog (but it may have been fox crap)

tomandizzymum · 10/03/2015 13:20

I've heard about it. We don't have a problem with dog poo where I live, which is ironic because there are hundreds of strays and unsupervised pets wondering around. Dogs are clean and it's people who force them to shit everywhere.
I have a friend that lives in London and has a local poo sprayer, when I visit London I find it absolutely discusting and it makes me sick to walk there, I appreciate someone spraying it so I can see it TBH.
