AIBU to think that the dog poo painters...

Could just as easily collect the poo and still mark the spot on the ground where they found it?

Totally appreciate I'm being U as it's the fault of irresponsible dog owners, and why should the council workers clean it up BUT I doubt the people who left it there will care that it's now bright orange, so I'm struggling to see the point of spraying it....

Is it to prove that a council dog waste bin and collection is very much needed in the area?

Someone please say they've seen something similar and this isn't just our neighbourhood poo-spraying weirdo... Smile

maybe wrongly explained, they train the dogs to poo on the metal thingy where the rainwater goes into the ground between kerb and street.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/03/2015 14:13

Ah ( I can visualise it now) in the USA they have the arch way open bit don't they rather than the square gridded cover.

Think of that bit in "IT" with the little boy and the boat.

Or , on second thoughts, wipe that image (creepy clown alert) Wink

hmc · 10/03/2015 15:16

Hmm @ 70isnotalimit - I am perfectly happy to pick up my dogs poo but I am not, repeat NOT going to stand under his bum and catch his falling poo. Have you been taking drugs?

twofingerstoGideon · 10/03/2015 15:24

poo in the gutter would only work if it was flushed into the drains, otherwise when you get out or in the car (in the dark) or your DC don't look where they stand when they get out.

My neighbour encourages her dogs to poo into the drains. There's not a drain down our street that doesn't have shit smeared around it/over it, etc. Do people honestly think it's hygienic to fill a rainwater drain with dog shit? What about the people who have to maintain/unblock them?

Seriously? Dog owners should pick up their dog's waste and dispose of it properly and considerately.

BathtimeFunkster · 10/03/2015 15:29

Still giggling about "No thank poo" Grin

Love that it was effective.

Agree that I would like to talk to my children about non-faecal matters.

"Mind the poo!" is the sentence I say more than any other!

GophersSitOnSofas · 10/03/2015 16:26

I spray paint the poo because my council deliver the paint to your door, they ASK us to paint the poo. They say its easier for everyone to see; children, wheelchair users and the street cleaners. It's supposed to act as a shaming device, but I don't think it works too well.

I have been know to pick the poo but its a disgusting job, and I'd rather not. Painting is a halfway house between picking it up and doing nothing.

WD41 · 10/03/2015 18:11

I think 70's suggestion was completely reasonable.

Why can't dog owners try and catch their animal's shit before it hits the pavement? Why not?

because they're selfish that's why

WD41 · 10/03/2015 18:13

I bet if your dog got ill and started shitting on your carpet you'd be there catching it

SomewhereIBelong · 10/03/2015 18:19

I always have a few extra bags with me and pick up other poop if it is left on our local pavements. I go further and further each day now without seeing any. I think a clean pavement tends to stay clean ... really does not take much to keep the community clean.

Pocketsfullofpoobags · 10/03/2015 20:30

I think the lack of dog waste bins is relevant.

For example, there's a huge play park and skate park near the same estate with 3 bins in the vicinity CLEARLY marked as not for dog waste, which is entirely justified, as they're open bins near a play park.

But, if no bin was available, all the skaters/kids playing after school SHOULD bag up their drinks cans, crisp packets, glass bottles, McDonald's packaging etc... and take it all home. But realistically, a lot of them won't.

Amazingly, I've seen several used nappies left by the bins, which is equally disgusting and lazy.

But, if a litter problem was to emerge at the play park, the first suggestion would be that there should be bins provided.

I would have thought the spraying in conjunction with the provision of bins would be the most sensible way of tackling the problem - especially considering it takes two council workers to identify all the turds and (from what I could see today) note their whereabouts on a clipboard?! Grin

This is a gif of dog poop man.

AIBU to think that the dog poo painters...
olgaga · 11/03/2015 00:18

I'm just wondeting if the purchade of a spray can might give me an incentive to go walking more often Grin

hmc · 11/03/2015 16:17

WD40 - (a) because the poo might miss the bag and hit your hand / wrist (b) because there is absolutely no need if you are happy to pick the poo up afterwards and (c) the poo stinks at its most potent when falling from the arse - it needs to sit for 60 seconds before its can be picked up without causing gagging ime and (d) people generally don't go around licking pavements or eating their dinner off the Tarmac so get a grip!

And up yours with the dog owners are selfish attitude - as bad as me suggesting that all those with a lubricant based moniker are irredeemably stupid

hmc · 11/03/2015 18:56

Ah, am feeling quite zen now and upon re-reading my post think I may have come across a tad too strong Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/03/2015 12:02

hmc i suggested sliding the bag under the dogs bum while it's doing it's crouchy straddling (so you do get warning) on the floor . The dog dumps onto the bag. you roll it up and put it in the bin.

So not catching it (because your dog won't poo to order) but to train it to poo on a plastic bag (like when they have puppy pads. They manage to grasp this concept)

Have you been taking drugs Biscuit

DustingOffTheDynastySuit · 12/03/2015 12:08

Please don't spray the actual poo! Lots of dogs and other animals eat poo (gross, I know!) and paint can be toxic.
Spray around it!

hmc · 12/03/2015 12:56

Have I been taking drugs? - only the paracetamol for the massive headache you are giving me 70isalimit!

Your suggestion remains - utterly ridiculous

WD41 · 12/03/2015 13:55

It's not a ridiculous suggestion.

And the reasons you give aren't really good enough, you couldn't catch it because it stinks?! If you can't deal with dog shit you shouldn't have a dog.

The fact that people don't go round licking pavements is irrelevant. We still have to walk through traces of it, my clumsy 3yo might trip into traces of it. It's vile.

mousmous · 12/03/2015 14:07

you might not lick the pavement but a toddler certainly might. a toddler also might fall head first on the grass in the park where there is a smear still left (eurgh)

BathshebaDarkstone · 12/03/2015 14:09

Dog poo painters? How did I miss this? Shock

007JamesBond · 12/03/2015 14:15

Sorry but PMSL at the concept of trying to catch the turd before it lands.

  1. Girl dogs wee in the same stance as they poo. You often don't know what's going to come out. Do you expect owners of bitches to stick a bag under their dog and then when it just gets covered in piss to pick up the soaking bag and then put it into their pocket?!

  2. Most dogs will move away from anyone approaching their arse whilst they are trying to shit. As would you.

  3. Regardless of the gender of the dog the concept is utterly crazy.

bialystockandbloom · 12/03/2015 14:22

I did know a man who used a carrier bag to catch his dog's poo. He just used to hold it very very wide behind the dog. Good on him. No reason at all why others can't do the same.

OttiliaVonBCup · 12/03/2015 14:27

Oh.

This thread is not what I expected.

I thought it was about real dog poo painters, you know, painters with dog poo.

It's different colour spending on the dog and the food they are fed. Sometimes it's sparkly, esp. around Christmas time when are tree decorations
hanging around unattended.

Wasn't there an elephant poo painter who won the Turner prize?

hmc · 12/03/2015 16:42

There is just no reasoning with them 007JamesBond I'm afraid! Hmm

(Whispers - probably cat owners)

hmc · 12/03/2015 17:01

WD41 - I can deal with dog shit thank you, I pick it up and dispose of it appropriately. That's all that is required. I am not dancing to the tune of obsessive strangers with their madcap and impractical notions.
