to ask What to buy British ex-pat for wedding present?

DH's mate is getting married in the States, where he has lived for a few years, to an American lass. They don't seem to have a wedding list, but we want to get them a fairly decent present (say £50-80). It must be light, as we will be taking it personally on the plane.
All ideas welcome!

You have 2 identical threads, OP, with different OPnames.

Yes, sorry - my fault. This is the correct one. I've asked for the other to be deleted.

Hi quality bed linen or lovely big bath towels. Soft throw for bed or sofa.
I had a monthly delivery of ceramic spice jars which was lovely and look really good. It was a Christmas present but they may deliver to US and makes the gift last ages. Buy something on Amazon US and have it delivered straight to them.
Garden furniture or fancy storage unit for shoes or something.

Is the area of the UK the groom is from connected with any craft / industry / customs?

Ie if the groom was Welsh I would order a hand crafted wooden love spoon.

Money or vouchers? Lightest of them all.

What about some kind of virgin experience dinner out or something?

Buy something from a store to be delivered to them? If they like cooking, for example, you could get them a nice set?

If you buy bedlinen make sure it's a US size - they're different to UK sizes.

I'd probably just take some really nice chocolate.

HereIAm20 · 09/03/2015 16:34

I would probably wait and buy them a gift over there unless there is something quintessentially British you want to buy as you will get more for your money over there.

finnbarrcar · 09/03/2015 16:34

If they have Scottish connections, an engraved quaich is nice with a bottle of malt to go with it.

miniavenger · 10/03/2015 09:27

lertgush Agreed on the chocolate, just not Cadbury's now it's taking on Kraft's grim recipe.

Definitely would buy something over there. Bed bath and beyond have beautiful items.

Why would you get something here and cart it all the way there? You can buy gorgeous stuff in America usually a lot cheaper than here as well.
