to think that paying just a small amount of the cost of my holiday by credit card will safeguard it if things go wrong?

As long as its more than £100 you are right. See MSE for details...

But that's only if it's a package. If you book flights / accom separately thrn you need to pay that much of each bill on cc.

i think you are only covered for the amount you spent on the card, not the whole amount surely?

DisappointedOne · 09/03/2015 11:13

You're covered for the whole amount, subject to the rules Theas18 posted.

improbablesaint · 09/03/2015 11:14

agree and any ABTA thing is pretty hard to claim ANYWAY ( bitter experience)

If the flights go bust but the accommodation is still there they only refund the flights.. barstwards

SoonToBeSix · 09/03/2015 11:16

It's not more than £100 that you have to pay you can only pay £1 on cc but the holiday must cost more than £100.

SoonToBeSix · 09/03/2015 11:17

And yes it's the whole amount.

wow that sounds odd, but handy

ClassicTron · 09/03/2015 11:36

Yes, absolutely. I always pay the deposit on creditcard and swallow the fee for this reason, but I'm not paying the balance that way!

It shouldn't be necessary though, if you have travel insurance and ABTA/ALOT cover, but I figure for minimal charge a bit of extra protection is a good thing.

muminhants · 09/03/2015 12:08

Yes you are right, you can pay a small amount by credit card and the rest by debit card to minimise fees but have your CCA protection.

jennystaffs81 · 09/03/2015 12:09

Yes I did this recently, just paid the deposit on my credit card.
