AIBU to hope that one day we have electronic receipts rather than paper ones?

Tried to take something back to a shop yesterday only to discover that I had no reception and in all probability have thrown it out during the mass sort out I did recently.

What's more receipts clog up my purse to. So I am the only one who hopes that one day electronic receipts get introduced making it much easier to keep an find?

scan or take a pic and store in your phone

some shops do this already eg Argos email you a receipt. its s great idea.

ChameleonCircuit · 08/03/2015 12:20

Apple stores already do this. You can choose to have a receipt emailed to you. I had my receipt for my iPad sent to my mail account and it appeared before I'd picked up the bag. It's obviously possible so it just needs retailers to get on board.

I let saltrock give me an electronic receipt. I now get promotional emails most days. Not really that keen on having my inbox clogged up with offers that I don't want.

DarylDixonsDarlin · 08/03/2015 12:21

Yes I have received an Argos one this week

Why keep receipts in your handbag / purse? File them properly at home. I keep all receipts. Supermarket receipts are kept until I can check them against my bank statements and they are then shredded unless they show goods that would warrant my keeping it (eg clothes from Sainsbury's). Other receipts are kept forever unless we have disposed of the item. They are always useful in telling you how much Item X cost and where you bought it from if you want another. Useful for insurance purposes, too.

Mothercare email receipts too.

Lardylassnomore · 08/03/2015 12:24

My beautician does email receipts and I got one in Mothercare the other week. Fab idea.

SusanIvanova · 08/03/2015 12:35

YANBU. This way maybe DP wouldn't have so many shelves/boxes/rooms filled with them.

DD bought shoes (IIRC in Schuh ) and they emailed to her iPhone.

lertgush · 09/03/2015 00:09

As soon as you get the receipt photograph it and upload it to Google docs.

This seems a ripe area for an app - take a photo of your receipt with your smartphone and it gets filed somewhere "in the cloud" for retrieval later. There may well already be something?

Notanothernick · 09/03/2015 09:37

An email address for receipts is a great idea to avoid spam and make them easy to store. The only hesitation I have is that I like to be able to check my receipt before I leave the store. Salt rock emailed me a receipt yesterday, it took a while to arrive and I didn't get a paper one in the shop.

chipsandpeas · 09/03/2015 12:40

b&q are starting this i think if you have one of their loyalty cards, got a email about it at the weekend

i dunno if im keen on it as then you would have to give them info and im sure as hell they would use your email address for marketing purposes

online ordering fair enough but if i wanted to buy something from say currys doesnt mean i want them to spam me

HairyPotter · 09/03/2015 12:44

Thomas Cook email receipts as well.

It's a great idea.

Felyne · 09/03/2015 12:49

Agree with chipsandpeas, cynical me thinks asking for your email address for a receipt is just a ruse to be able to send you more marketing crap and has stuff-all to do with 'being green'.
