To think that my son's preschool are rubbish at communicating?

It's a snow day here today. It's a private church-run school, but the policy is that if the state schools are closed for bad weather, so are they. Fair enough, but today was supposed to be parent-teacher conference day, so no classes, just meetings. I've been trying to get in touch with the school to confirm that these are also cancelled but no one is answering the phone or responding to my message. I've just sent a text to DS's teacher who we are supposed to be meeting at 1 (it's 11 here).

AIBU to think this is a bit crap? Surely a round robin email or something just to confirm, or a recorded message on the voicemail, wouldn't have been too much trouble?

Yes you are being unreasonable. It's a snow day so the policy is if the state schools are closed then so is yours. So that's your answer. Why would they need to text to reiterate?

Also, I cant understand why you have your teachers mobile number unless she also happens to be a friend.

How is anyone supposed to answer the school phone if they cant get in to school due to snow?

If you can't contact (work mobile off?). They're probably not there.

I have the teacher's number because she gave it to me when DS started in her class, as she did with all the parents.

It hasn't snowed since last night, and there's no more than 2 inches of snow on the ground. The roads are completely clear - DH has gone in to work as normal - so I wondered if the conferences might go ahead seeing as it will be difficult to rearrange. Obviously not.

YANBU! Schools I've worked at have been able to log on to systems remotely to keep parents updated. Of course they should have let parents know one way or the other.

School closed = meetings cancelled. Surely that's obvious.

Okay, fair enough, I accept I'm unreasonable! DS is my first and didn't go to nursery, so this is my first experience with a school-type of setting. I thought maybe as the weather is not actually that bad and the church building where the school is is likely to be open anyway someone might be in, even if classes aren't running. Or that contact could be made remotely.

I will suck it up and not complain again.
