Just asking opinions, not sure what mine is really as was teetotal for years pre pregnancy so didn't need to think about it, but I was a smoker until I found out I was pregnant.
I just wonder if we are as a society far more tolerant of drinking vs smoking and this translates through to pregnancy as nhs advice seems to be to avoid both.

i see so many women raising their arms above their heads. theres just no need. if you cant het through 9 months without putting ona hat then there really is no hope

Hullygully · 03/03/2015 20:22

Also, a bit of booze helps baby sleep.

Who wants to be kicked form the inside all night? Not me.

anothernumberone · 03/03/2015 20:24

My friend smoked in pregnancy, she gave up Lithium though. I think she made the best choices she could at an extremely vulnerable time of her life. Life is not black and white.

PacificDogwood · 03/03/2015 20:25

Also, a bit of booze helps baby sleep.

Yes, a wee dram of whisky in their bottle does wonders.
Apparently.

Beatrixemerald · 03/03/2015 20:28

mintyy why bother reading and commenting if its such a stupid thread and I need to get a hobby. Did I miss some rule about the topics one was allowed to discuss and what exactly my opinion should be on them?

BathtimeFunkster · 03/03/2015 20:29

I gave up everything and then I had a really stupid, ugly baby anyway.

So next time I figured, why abstain?

Then I had some really glamorous and cool babies.

They're in their teens now and they look great when smoking - really know how to hold a cigarette for maximum sex appeal.

The eldest one is still moaning about how she can't get a boyfriend because she's so square.

Hullygully · 03/03/2015 20:30

It's not too late for her bathtime. Has she considered vaping and perhaps a little light paint stripper?

Hullygully · 03/03/2015 20:30

Yes mintyy you are such a misery. Ignore her beatrixemrald, she is sad because her own children eat quavers and watch tv.

PrettyFeet · 03/03/2015 20:32

Yep Im bad Im very bad Grin

Lovemycatsandkids · 03/03/2015 20:34

The sooner pregnant women are herded together into homes that control their every movement the bloody better.

BathtimeFunkster · 03/03/2015 20:36

Vaping is not a bad idea.

Could you spike the vape with solvents?

That might get her to loosen up enough for men to notice her large, but matronly, breasts.

Mintyy · 03/03/2015 20:37

Because Beatrix - just why not put your question in the Pregnancy topic? Why not, unless you want a fight?

Very extremely old Mumsnetters like me who are 11 years beyond their last pregnancy can then hide the topic and not have to see arsey/dreary/ranty threads like this, and all those of you who are pregnant now can have self righteous shouty matches with each other?

BathtimeFunkster · 03/03/2015 20:39

Could we not do something like those vats that KFC chickens come from?

Then nobody would have to cut down to a single line of coke a week for 9 months.

TurquoiseDress · 03/03/2015 20:40

I'd say it's not really an exact comparison.

There are NO positive health benefits to smoking whether you're pregnant or not.

Beatrixemerald · 03/03/2015 20:42

Im not pregnant!!! I just really loved smoking not drinking.
11 years, how special, did you get a badge?!?

OP posts:
Beatrixemerald · 03/03/2015 20:43

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 03/03/2015 20:46

I suspect 1 cigarette per week would have little effect but most smokers don't stop at 1 and I think that's the difference. Many drinkers can enjoy a glass of wine once a week and that is OK. If you can't stop at one glass you should probably stop.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 03/03/2015 20:50

Could you spike the vape with solvents?

No you'd explode your face. At least then you'd be as ugly as your stupid baby.

(vaping is actually not a bad idea at all if you can't quit)

PrettyFeet · 03/03/2015 20:50

I smoked, Im a smoker, that's what I did.

I threw up, I smoked, I pissed myself frequently, I smoked, I became the size of a walrus, I smoked.

But hey that's just me Grin

MissDuke · 03/03/2015 20:52

Although NHS advice says a small amount of alcohol is ok, the Department of Health and royal college of midwives say otherwise. As a previous poster said, there is an interesting programme on at 9pm this evening which might surprise some of you. I am amazed that so many people believe that alcohol in pregnancy is ok. It really isn't! A recent report suggests that around 30% of women in the UK drink alcohol in pregnancy, compared with around 7% in the US.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 03/03/2015 20:55

I've stopped trusting any research that comes from the US. Too much dodgy funding, too much dodgy zealotry.

Well I didn't smoke or drink during my pregnancy. However I continued taking my medication for epilepsy which can be argued to be a toxin
