To Ask If AIBU - & How to Deal With GP Problem...

as in our Doctor, not Grandparents

I'm at my wits end with our GP, I'm aware that might because I am ill, struggling with vile headaches, that I might be over reacting a bit, but this has been ongoing for years & I just can no longer deal with constantly having to chase up referrals that GP has promised to do - but then turns out she hasn't done.

I've just found out that 2 more follow ups haven't been done - one a cardiology one from January - both important & potentially serious, both leave me struggling longer than necessary without help.

We've had the same thing with DD - I ended up seeing a specialist consultant privately with her in March last year & I've had to chase & chase the follow up referrals that were sent on to our GP to organise.

There are better GPs in the surgery, who we will see when we need, but they always refer back to the one we are registered with if any referrals are needed - I suspect this is because they have too many patients to cope with & don't want to write the referral letters for another's patients.

Our GP only works 2,1/2 days, in the years she has been our GP she hasn't actually diagnosed anything bar the odd virus, which I don't often bother going with anyway, I have had to research & lead her on everything & fight for diagnosis for both myself & DD, though in fairness we do have a rare re genetic condition.

I don't dislike her, she's nice & seems to listen & care, but a few things have happened that mean I just don't feel we are in safe hands, she doesn't seem to remember or at times even read our notes properly. I don't want to complain, I just want a different GP, one I can trust, but the only local surgery with spaces, has a dreadful reputation, so I can't move us

AIBU?? Is this really how bad it has got with the NHS & if not, what can I do - is there a way I can push for a transfer to another GP within the surgery ??

Can you write to the practice manager for advice on this?

kittycatz · 02/03/2015 14:00

Contact the practice manager explaining what you have written here and then insist on being transferred to the list of another GP

Are there only two surgeries near you Op? I had similar trouble with my previous GP so moved to a new surgery, I had a choice of 6 clinics in my county and I was moved to the one with the best reputation and things have improved. Good luck x
