Right, I was actually at the March yesterday, and I can tell you exactly what happened.
The 'violent clashes' were nothing like the report makes out. There was a scuffle between five people on the Pegida side. They tried to start fighting with the very nice police who were acting as a human barricade. There were 200 Pegida supporters. We saw the scuffle begin from our side of the road, and about three minutes later it was over as they were immediately arrested and bundled into vans.
Of the 2000 people who turned out against the Pegida lot, who had a peaceful march, and then a rally lasting two hours, there were no arrests at all. The police have confirmed this.
A pp commented on covered faces in the anti Pegida crowd. There were some. I can tell you exactly who they are. They are a small group of neo anarchists, mainly teenage boys, and by small group, there's about five of them. They like to turn up whenever the EDL (again there's about six of them) turn up. We had it at the protest when Nigel Farage came to speak here. The two groups wind each other up and do shouting. Very very boring and counterproductive, but as we are a free country, it is their right.
However, the other 1,995 anti Pegida protesters were a mix of many groups and ordinary people who came together to peacefully oppose the anti Islamic protests, and we all felt so proud to stand shoulder to shoulder as a friendly and tolerant city.
