To think these beauty experts are deluding themselves

Sali Hughes and India Knight and two other beauty experts discussing "ageing gracefully".

India and the woman on the right are very overweight. The skin care expert's blusher is clown like and the woman next to her appears to have a face full of fillers. They earn their living - in part - advising woman on how to look good but, with the exception of Sali Hughes, they don't! It just makes me think about what a farce the whole beauty industry is.

Any thoughts?

You are being ver ver unreasonable obvs. You must not post negative stuff about India otherwise her good friend Sali xxx will come on here and tell you off and call you mean and unsisterly and then bitch about us all with Caitlyn and the posse on Twitter. The thread might also go pfft and disappear.

DelphiniumBlue · 26/02/2015 23:55

Actually I think you are being a little unfair. I wouldn't say they are "very" overweight, probably size 16. Agreed, the skin care expert does seem to be wearing rather a lot of makeup, but the others look quite well made up, and I was struck by how nice India's skin is.
Sali Hughes is clearly considerably younger than the others, but you think she is the only one who looks good. In her case, I would say its down to genetics and the fact that she is younger!

Faez · 27/02/2015 00:00

God why are they wearing so much make up and someone's definitely had work. Makes you want to give them a scrub.

NurseNancyatToyHospital · 27/02/2015 00:04

India is so very dowdy. The skin expert looked like she needed expert advice rather than giving it. They were all talking about the importance of not overdoing Botox etc but the one with the blonde bob couldn't move her face!

OP posts:
SwedishEdith · 27/02/2015 00:06

Is the blonde one Brix Smith?

NurseNancyatToyHospital · 27/02/2015 00:11

Yes.

SwedishEdith · 27/02/2015 00:12

I was watching with no sound - assume that's the sensible option?

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 27/02/2015 00:32

The "overweight" person (how horrible) is caroline hirons and she is a skin care god. Not a make up one. Honestly she is amaxing

NurseNancyatToyHospital · 27/02/2015 07:49

It isn't horrible to describe someone as overweight in this context as I'm talking about them in their roles as self appointed beauty experts.

OP posts:
SinglePringle · 27/02/2015 07:53

Nope. Still confused about how her weight is relevant to her job as a skin care / beauty expert... Care to enlighten?

southeastastra · 27/02/2015 07:56

i prefer the women off qvc Grin

NancyRaygun · 27/02/2015 07:57

I really rate India's beauty advice because she looks like a normal woman who could use a good moisturiser etc like the rest of us! I would be more dismayed to see a group of highlighted size 6 honeys giving beauty advice - when nature didn't give you all the goods you need some great beauty stuff! plus we haven't seen them WITHOUT any make up so maybe this is as good as it gets

I did have a bit of a hollow chuckle when India and her equally overweight friend wrote a diet book - basically about not eating biscuits!

Methe · 27/02/2015 08:00

They look terrible.

NancyRaygun · 27/02/2015 08:03

Yeah... they do look terrible. THIS is how I do my make up:

YouBetterWerk · 27/02/2015 08:09

Well this was a depressing thread.

editthis · 27/02/2015 08:15

India and Sali aren't self-appointed; they're journalists who have no doubt been asked to do this (as, yes, they write about beauty – among other things). I suppose what might get people's backs up is that you are making stock judgements on what the parameters of "beauty" are, or should be: youth, a certain size. In fact, the beauty industry should aim to make all people (who are interested in doing so) feel (more) beautiful – that is its service/remit – and that should not be restricted by what you look like, ironically. Obviously it does not always fulfill this role, which is why people have such a narrow idea of what is beautiful.

I'm more worried about who the industry does not cater for. It would have been nice to see some women with different skin types on the panel.

editthis · 27/02/2015 08:17

^tones, not types

WayfaringStranger · 27/02/2015 08:19

I like India Knight. She seems a good egg.

Annarose2014 · 27/02/2015 08:27

Actually they all seem like good eggs. Even Brix thingy had a good sense of humour about herself when she was on that Gok Wan thing.

I feel nothing but relief that Caroline & India aren't perfect. I don't want someone genetically gifted telling me how to look better. If Gisele tried that shit with me I'd want to punch her.

But people who have to work at it and who have tried every single product out there to look better? Oh yes, bring on all your advice cos I'm in the same boat.

Costacoffeeplease · 27/02/2015 08:28

I find Sali Hughes endlessly irritating, and this hasn't endeared her to me one little bit - and who on earth cut her hair??

I do like India though, she isn't stick thin and conventionally beautiful, but she makes the most of what she's got, and is confident in her skin, and that's the best any of us can hope for

TwoOddSocks · 27/02/2015 08:31

Why does being a little overweight prevent her from giving skin care advice....I'm a little confused!

TwoOddSocks · 27/02/2015 08:32

I love editthis's response. Beauty should be about making people feel good about themselves, your post comes across as really mean spirited.

Pagwatch · 27/02/2015 08:35

I think it's unfair tbh.

The topic is about how women deal with ageing in a world that ( self evidently) judges women so harshly.
I would rather listen to people who look like normal women but who have an expertise than from a size 6 20 year old.
Ageing is about balance - how hard it is to look in the mirror and see your own physical decline without obsessing and ceasing to enjoy life.
It can become about shame and tbh this thread is rather with the ' be young, be perfect or be judged' group.

treaclesoda · 27/02/2015 08:36

I think they all look fine. Well, maybe the American lady has an unnatural looking face, but I watched a bit and she said that she has reached a point in her life where she feels happy in her own skin. Instead of criticising her, we should be pleased for her. Would it not be great if we all felt happy with what we see in the mirror?

Dawndonnaagain · 27/02/2015 08:57

Until women stop judging other women about the way they look: India and the woman on the right are very overweight. We can't really expect others to stop doing it.
I think you're being mean and unfair.
