To ask, Do you eat in bed?

... and if so, what do you eat?

For the past several months, I've noticed that as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm suddenly starving. Even if I've eaten a proper dinner, I sometimes wake up ravenous in the night. Then if I don't get up and seek out food, I'll just lie awake for ages. What is up with this?

I've mentioned it to colleagues and a couple have confessed to keeping chocolate bars or crisps by the bed for midnight munchies or coming downstairs for cereal in the wee hours of the morning. Is this something that happens to lots of people?

There's something wrong with you and ive totally forgotten the name of it

It's something to do with blood sugar crashing when you lie down

You MUST Google it and see someone
(Not cadburys) Grin

Travelledtheworld · 25/02/2015 23:25

I agree. Could be low blood sugar . Try having a bowl of porridge before you go to sleep and see if that helps. Eat more complex carbohydrates and avoid sugary, processed food.

Gruntfuttock · 25/02/2015 23:26

No I never eat in bed. I wouldn't want to.

Limer · 25/02/2015 23:28

Yes, me & my OH always eat 2 each of our current Hotel Chocolat box in bed. We takes turns to have first pick. We have a direct debit set up and get something like 8 boxes per year plus the specials (Christmas, Valentines, etc) so we never run out.

And we bring our drinks up to bed as well, so have a final half-glass of wine each too.

marshmallowpies · 25/02/2015 23:30

Tea in bed, yes every day! (I'm spoilt)

Food in bed, no way. Hate the thought of crumbs.

Secretly i'd quite like something chocolatey to have with my tea - something good for dunking like a kit Kat - but that would be far too decadent, I'd feel terribly ashamed of myself...

BadLad · 25/02/2015 23:33

Thank you, EatShit, and the weightier problem of pouring away wifey's undrunk dregs?

nocoolnamesleft · 25/02/2015 23:48

Spent many years living in a variety of shared accomodation, where eating in the bedroom (only private space) was commonplace. So, yes, I do still sometimes eat in bed, particularly if either ill, or especially knackered.

Never. I don't even have a drink in bed. I'd much rather be somewhere else to eat.

My colleague and her boyfriend would eat kebabs in bed, go to sleep then eat the leftovers in bed the next morning fresh from their bedside table.
That story made me so sick when she told me that I think it's given me a phobia of eating in bed.

Yay4may · 25/02/2015 23:57

Had my dinner in the bath tonight for the first time. Was heaven.

Flambola · 26/02/2015 00:00

Just read this thread whilst in bed chomping on some crisps.

TinLizzie · 26/02/2015 00:11

Ooh yes. I've always had snacks in bed and rarely have crumbs (I use a plate!) and am very careful 'cause I hate rolling around in those pointy bits Grin. Don't do it very often when DP is home but he's away during the week, so I please myself how and when I eat. I love it - good book, cup of tea and some cheese & biscuits.

Mind you, if I don't finish it, I'm utterly unable to leave a plate with food on it next to my bed (shudder). I have to remove that.

Hmmmm..off to the kitchen bed now!

Postchildrenpregranny · 26/02/2015 00:17

I take my porridge back to bed every morning . I sometimes stay there annd read/email most of the morning too . 'tis bliss .

ElspethTascioni · 26/02/2015 00:22

Ooh no, no eating in bed in this house, not even cups of tea accept that one time when I had the hangover to end all hangovers and consumed an entire bag of jam doughnuts and bottle of coke

ElspethTascioni · 26/02/2015 00:23

Ah bugger it, except, not accept...sigh...

TheFlyingFauxPas · 26/02/2015 00:29

I like it to smell like flowers and clean linen Hehe Grin don't come in my room then! Always smells farty (Just me) I also eat in bed - and ds (now 12) has his breakfast in my bed before school every morning.

StrawberryTot · 26/02/2015 01:09

Nope never.

Even if im poorly and its some toast, I'll get out of bed.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/02/2015 01:16

Yeah sometimes sweets crisps cakes anything even have our tea up there as well now and again. I've never been fussy over mess. It's easily cleaned up

AdoraBell · 26/02/2015 01:24

Only on my birthday and Mother's day. DDs bring me breakfast in Bed and I am not allowed To Get up úntil I've eaten it. Same for DH on Father's day.

Other than Those 2 days I don't, although I do drink coffee/tea in Bed at the weekends.

foSho · 26/02/2015 01:27

I eat in bed most nights. Having chocolate digestives right now.

MyIronLung · 26/02/2015 01:36

fosho are you me?! I've just had some choc digestives in bed Grin

I love eating in bed. The crumbs don't bother me as I change my bed linen every other day or so (my favorite thing is getting into a clean bed).

This will continue for as long as I'm single. My bed, my rules Grin

foSho · 26/02/2015 01:42

Haha I'm definitely not you as I do not change my bed that often. I sleep in the crumbs (only the ones that are too small to pick up and eat. I do have some self respect you know.)

MummyPig24 · 26/02/2015 02:30

I ear breakfast in bed once a week when it is my turn to have a lie in on the weekend, as does Dh on his day.

Redglitter · 26/02/2015 02:51

Ugh no. I have a friend though who has been known to stay in bed all day (and then some) with her husband. they eat breakfast lunch dinner in bed

I really don't get that

Runningupthathill82 · 26/02/2015 07:35

Oh dear.
I just wrote a far-too-long post about snacking and obesity and people associating comfort with food etc.
But then I realised that posting it would make me look like a twat, and its precisely none of my business where people eat. Sorry. As you were!
