To ask, Do you eat in bed?

... and if so, what do you eat?

For the past several months, I've noticed that as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm suddenly starving. Even if I've eaten a proper dinner, I sometimes wake up ravenous in the night. Then if I don't get up and seek out food, I'll just lie awake for ages. What is up with this?

I've mentioned it to colleagues and a couple have confessed to keeping chocolate bars or crisps by the bed for midnight munchies or coming downstairs for cereal in the wee hours of the morning. Is this something that happens to lots of people?

God no how awful, the crumbs, stains, odours...not to mention a visit from the SNACK POLICE. I couldn't live on the edge like that.

mytitiferssungtheirsong · 25/02/2015 22:21

I love eating in bed and frequently have a snack before bedtime. Eating in bed is the best IMO.

pepperfish · 25/02/2015 22:22

Toast very occasionally before bed - the crumbs are so worth it!

passthewineplz · 25/02/2015 22:23

Who - the pill might be the reason why, it does change hormone levels. How long have you been on it for? Also could there be a chance you're pregnant?

flipchart · 25/02/2015 22:26

DH brings me a cc up of coffee and some ready brek up every morning as he gets up first to sort the kids out.

19lottie82 · 25/02/2015 22:33

I do and once it!

CaspoFungin · 25/02/2015 22:33

No because I would have to get up to get the food, so I would just eat in the kitchen?

19lottie82 · 25/02/2015 22:33

Once it? Love it!

IchBinEinNerd · 25/02/2015 22:34

No, i wouldnt enjoy the food if i ate it in bed. Too weird.

whothehellknows · 25/02/2015 22:37

I've been on the pill for a few months, so pregnancy would be quite unlikely.

There are SNACK POLICE?

I didn't know about them.

Only when pregnant (so the last three years)

It's the only place I can eat my chocolate without the DC nabbing it!

Runningupthathill82 · 25/02/2015 22:39

Urgh. No. Food in bed - never. But I did have cups of tea in bed when I was breastfeeding.

passthewineplz · 25/02/2015 22:42

Perhaps give it until your next time of the month, and if you feel the same see your GP.

I've not been on the pill for ages, I had depo last time and that can make you put on weight, so I assume the pill might change your appetite too.

I'd also like to know who the snack police are! Confused

CluckingBelle · 25/02/2015 22:45

Nope! No food or drink allowed upstairs in our house. 'Tis the Rules!

Purplehonesty · 25/02/2015 22:48

Oh yes. Not meals usually(!) but snacks and supper etc.
if I am ill I have occasionally had soup or pasta in bed.
I don't like food smells in my room tho so would normally just be a biscuit .

Mrsteddyruxpin · 25/02/2015 22:52

No but I bring a hot mug of milk up as I used to have sleep trouble. Started weight watchers though so I am going to knock that on the head.

Hot milk would solve your problem I think though

Yes, I do eat in bed because I'm lazy and cozy. I used to eat biscuits but the crumbs drove me mad, so I stick to less crumbly food.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 25/02/2015 22:58

I was just about to suggest pregnancy as both of mine have seen my up and hunting for food from 2/3am - probably three nights a week from 6months onwards.

In general terms I very very rarely eat in bed as I have a toddler who doesnt nap and a tiny baby who goes to bed in our room in the evening - so I dont have the chance.

If I have a child free few hours, one thing I love to do is stick a hot water bottle in the bed, make a big bowl of chicken super noodles and eat them in bed watching a Modern Family, then have a nap after it.

Actually I just remembered, when pregnant with my first I would treat myself once every few weeks to a McDonalds and id eat that in bed then nap afterwards. Flat coke on waking up was grim but I was so thirsty!

BadLad · 25/02/2015 23:00

We don't eat food in bed - don't fancy the crumbs - but sometimes have beer or wine in bed while winding down (not a euphemism).

I hate clearing up the beer cans the next day, though, and I hate it even more when they aren't finished and I have to pour away the flat dregs.

No, crumbs in bed...yuk....

Purplepoodle · 25/02/2015 23:16

No utterly gross

Methe · 25/02/2015 23:20

No, it's gross!

usualsuspect333 · 25/02/2015 23:22

There's no need to call other people gross because they do something you don't.
