AIBU to wonder who in their right mind buys Wensleydale cheese on purpose?

I accidentally bought some tonight, it must have been lurking in amongst the cheddar and I didn't notice my mistake until I got home.

Well. It looks and tastes every inch a big mistake. Does anyone ever buy it on purpose? If so, why? What am I going to do with the rest of it? I never met a cheese I didn't like, but this is just unspeakable Confused

I'm with you, OP. DH loves the horrible stuff. He can have it; I'll eat all the brie.

MadameJulienBaptiste · 24/02/2015 22:28

It's delis, along with a nice crumbl lancashire they are my faves. Dewlay lancashire and wensledale from the Hawes creamery. Mmmmm mmmmm
we had to stop going for day trips to Hawes because of the cheese bill.....

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 24/02/2015 22:28

The question really is why would you choose to buy cheddar? Now that's a boring cheese.

motleymop · 24/02/2015 22:30

Well I never - Wensleydale with fruit cake! Or tea cakes! You learn something new every day - I am definitely going to try these delicious combos.

Ponyinthepool · 24/02/2015 22:30

Right then. I'll hang onto it until Christmas rolls round, or I find some plasticine friends to have over, whichever comes first Smile

MagersfonteinLugg · 24/02/2015 22:31

I'll eat it.
But then I will eat ANY cheese out there as I love it.

littlepeas · 24/02/2015 22:31

My sister once ranted and ranted about her bil because he ate all of the wensleydale with cranberries at Christmas. I'm not sure I've ever seen her so worked up about something.

PureMorning · 24/02/2015 22:32

Love Wensleydale

sanfairyanne · 24/02/2015 22:38

mmmmm is gorgeous

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 24/02/2015 22:41

YANBU and obvious not from Yorkshire. It's lovely and as PPs gave said traditionally served with Christmas cake in these parts.

mousmous · 24/02/2015 22:43

the same people who eat cottage cheese
it's the same as cottage cheese, just dried

Unsecreteaters · 24/02/2015 22:45

Pile of grated carrot, handful of sultanas, handful of chopped dried apricots, little cubes or crumbles of Wensleydale. Mix a dressing of juice of 1/2 an Orange, 1 tbsp lemon juice, some oil, 1/2 tsp each of dried ground cumin, coriander and mint. Stuff in wraps or pittas. Yum.

TSSDNCOP · 24/02/2015 22:46

It's bollocks cheese. And those plastercine bastards aren't funny either.

MajesticWhine · 24/02/2015 22:48

Yes, I definitely buy it on purpose. Not with bits. Never heard of this fruit cake malarky though.

travertine · 24/02/2015 22:49

It's squeaky. I like that about it. And it can sit in the fridge without risk of theft.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 24/02/2015 22:51

Oops, I meant YABVU upthread. Must be unsullied by fruit though. We use a block most weeks.

DrFoxtrot · 24/02/2015 22:57

Oooh Unsecret I'm going to try that

cosytoaster · 24/02/2015 23:06

YABVU - it's not as good as Lancashire Creamy Mild but still great.

Unsecret - your idea sounds yummy

Frikadellen · 24/02/2015 23:10

Fancy some Wensleydale Grommit?

YABU btw :)

Janethegirl · 24/02/2015 23:15

I agree OP, it is one of the nastiest cheeses available. My dh likes it but I never buy it. Truly rank and I say that as a cheese loverGrin

TyneTeas · 24/02/2015 23:17

The Wensleydale Dairy at Hawes is excellent

Ponyinthepool · 24/02/2015 23:19

You must be the ones buying cottage cheese with pineapple in it too

PM me and I'll stick it in the post.

TheSoulCakeDuck · 24/02/2015 23:20

How very dare you Op. It is fantastic (but then I'm not too far from the Hawes creamery). Has protected status don't you know, more than can be said for cheddar!
It's fantastic with fruit cake and also apple pie

As other posters have said though it has to be the unadulterated stuff not the ones with random frippery in Grin Grin

IchBinEinNerd · 24/02/2015 23:21

i thought it was odd. very wet.

Italiangreyhound · 24/02/2015 23:23
