to laugh at this second-hand wedding drama?

It's second hand because it's actually happening to someone I know vaguely on FB who is in America.

She is getting married! And man, does everybody need to know about it! So far she's had:

An engagement shower (which seemed to be a party just for her thrown by her mother)

An engagement party (for the couple and potential invites to the wedding)

A wedding shower (same again?)

A bachelorette party (hen do)

Sent out save the dates (which I'd never heard of before her fb post about "looking out for them"), invitations, RSVP cards. And on and on.

Many many public dramas on the way, including rants about the fact that some people RSVP'd "sorry I can't attend" AFTER getting their save the date cards - she sent the save the dates SEVENTEEN MONTHS before the wedding. I'm sure most people had lost them by the time the correct year rolled around!

Anyway the wedding is this weekend (yay! An end to it all!). This week's FB drama is that people are cancelling last minute. She posted a screen grab of a text convo today though that has had me scraping my chin all day (my jaw is on the floor). It said:

Friend: Wanted to warn you hun, I won't be able to make it on Saturday. I'm so sorry. I'll call you tonight.
Bride: You know what, DON'T call me. You're the second to do this. So sick of selfish people wrecking my special day.
Friend: Mum died this morning.

Bride is on FB asking her friend list AIBU to think that "if her mum died on Monday then she could totally attend a wedding on Saturday".

Amazing.

And before anyone says it, yes I know I should unfollow/unfriend but I am shamefully addicted to this stuff... Blush

okay, i see that the poor friend has posted a dignified response :( , but i think you need to do this:

post on the thread about the meal that she could upgrade someone else to have the absent friend's meal.
and
start a new thread on her wall wishing her the best for the weekend and that you neeeeeed to have regular updates about the wedding weekend

that way you can guarantee you'll have plenty of drama to report back with.

The friend who lost her mum is beyond reasonable. I would have responded much more like the aunt. Grin

I hope that the people who were agreeing with Bridezilla weren't contacting the bereaved woman to try and pressure her into coming....

Lovebug85 · 24/02/2015 19:21

OMG, what an awful person! Cannot believe how reasonable her friend is being!
I've been reading this to my DH and he suggests he would give the bride a black eye the day before the wedding....... Would look great in the photos!! Lol

NotYouNaanBread · 24/02/2015 19:22

This is brilliant. What did she say to "defend" her H2B over the stag do BJ? How do you respond to a FB post like that? Do you think there's something in Emily Post (Updated Edition) for that?

emotionsecho · 24/02/2015 19:24

The cocktail comment from aunt was priceless. Bet bridezilla is frantically removing all mentions of cocktails from the wedding literature. Wonder who will be the first to ask the bar staff for a 'Sex on the Beach' or a 'Between The Sheets'Smile

Notrevealingmyidentity · 24/02/2015 19:25

Yes she might go the other way like miss havisham.

BikeRunSki · 24/02/2015 19:25

Please let there be a honeymoon baby, the drama could continue for a long time...

Binkleflip · 24/02/2015 19:26

£5 says that fuknut is not getting married this weekend, any takers?

mothergoose98 · 24/02/2015 19:27

I'm new to MN.....this is awesome, lmao.

CSIJanner · 24/02/2015 19:27

This is the mind of thing you usually see a screenshot and roasting of on reddit

Is it wrong I'm now going to search there for wedding threads?

bumbleymummy · 24/02/2015 19:27

DancingHat · 24/02/2015 19:30

I had a friend who got an initial entwined 'logo'/monogram designed for her wedding. Still uses it on bespoke photo Christmas cards each year...

But this bridezilla is bat shit crazy!!

ragged · 24/02/2015 19:30

You sure you're not making this up? Because I'm American and I never even heard of a Wedding Breakfast before I came to live in England.

I never heard of a post-wedding brunch at all before.

Binkleflip · 24/02/2015 19:31

also I nominate for Classics, this thread may break the internet Grin

bumbleymummy · 24/02/2015 19:31

kunfupanda - That actually made me lol. What on earth were they thinking?

Cornettoninja · 24/02/2015 19:33

These people are amazing!

I know you shouldn't revel in others misery but I can't help but hope she sleeps with one of his friends after the wedding for revenge!

GloopyGhoul · 24/02/2015 19:33

I need to know where in the states this is taking place. Please tell me it's a Southern affair.

Justmuddlingalong · 24/02/2015 19:36

Imagine the groom with a big, scabby coldsore on the wedding day. Photographed to remember for eternity!

Stealthpolarbear · 24/02/2015 19:37

" The one year reunion of the post-wedding reunion gang"
nooooooooooooooooo surely not

ClashCityRocker · 24/02/2015 19:38

What a douche.

RocknRollNerd · 24/02/2015 19:41

I heart anyone who having just lost their sister can lay the smackdown like that!

Please tell us this is an East Coast wedding so there's a fighting chance of relatively real time updates. DH is away at the moment and this beats any trash I might have been planning to watch on Sky tonight!

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 24/02/2015 19:46

Secretly hoping Twatzilla invoices bereaved friend and the aunt offers to shove up Twatzilla's arse. Kitchen you must screen shot that and share it with us.

lavenderhoney · 24/02/2015 19:46

Plan an heir? What? Is she royalty? Or really really rich?

She sounds demented. and her fiancé sounds a peach as well Hmm

IgnotumPerIgnotius · 24/02/2015 19:48

Must. Not. Placemark.
