to laugh at this second-hand wedding drama?

It's second hand because it's actually happening to someone I know vaguely on FB who is in America.

She is getting married! And man, does everybody need to know about it! So far she's had:

An engagement shower (which seemed to be a party just for her thrown by her mother)

An engagement party (for the couple and potential invites to the wedding)

A wedding shower (same again?)

A bachelorette party (hen do)

Sent out save the dates (which I'd never heard of before her fb post about "looking out for them"), invitations, RSVP cards. And on and on.

Many many public dramas on the way, including rants about the fact that some people RSVP'd "sorry I can't attend" AFTER getting their save the date cards - she sent the save the dates SEVENTEEN MONTHS before the wedding. I'm sure most people had lost them by the time the correct year rolled around!

Anyway the wedding is this weekend (yay! An end to it all!). This week's FB drama is that people are cancelling last minute. She posted a screen grab of a text convo today though that has had me scraping my chin all day (my jaw is on the floor). It said:

Friend: Wanted to warn you hun, I won't be able to make it on Saturday. I'm so sorry. I'll call you tonight.
Bride: You know what, DON'T call me. You're the second to do this. So sick of selfish people wrecking my special day.
Friend: Mum died this morning.

Bride is on FB asking her friend list AIBU to think that "if her mum died on Monday then she could totally attend a wedding on Saturday".

Amazing.

And before anyone says it, yes I know I should unfollow/unfriend but I am shamefully addicted to this stuff... Blush

Why do I get the feeling that the zilla, if real, is Katie Hopkin's American cousin?

Lweji · 25/02/2015 04:19

Considers accepting random friend requests instead of people I actually know and like.

Wonders if she will also have a rehearsal shag and what the favours will be. Cocktail glasses?

Groovee · 25/02/2015 06:41

I have. Family who live in the states and they said that some of the drama which comes from some women is really over the top about their weddings.

thatsucks · 25/02/2015 07:08

I think there are an awful lot of made up wedding threads on here at the moment as posters know they always gets so much attention.

I don't believe half of them and the ones based on truth, are exaggerated for effect IMO.

Still, I guess they entertain!

I want a bonkers fb friend now! Although I must say, is someone posted screenshots of my private conversation they wouldn't be a friend for very long!

jaynebxl · 25/02/2015 07:52

Love it! OP is your mutual friend invited to the wedding?

scarffiend · 25/02/2015 08:28

I'm so gutted I'm at the end of this thread! What a psycho! But thanks to all PPs for the links to other wedding crazies, I'll be enjoying them this morning!

IAmAllImportant · 25/02/2015 08:48

TidyDancer, I never thought Gluezilla could be topped, but the OP's bride and Midnite's have just topped her!

Gluezilla will still never be forgotten!

This Bridezilla is so unaware though, actually messaging that, then posting it because she was so sure she was right!

SasBel · 25/02/2015 08:59

Keep following her! so not marking my place in the hope of future installments to the saga.....

saffronwblue · 25/02/2015 09:16

I believe.

notnaice · 25/02/2015 09:17

Unfortunately I believe it. There are some real batshit people out there not thinking of one in particular

OccamsLadyshave · 25/02/2015 09:23

I believe - or I certainly believe there are people out there like this.

In my youth I had a part-time job in a certain bridal shop that was blown up by the IRA during a weekend in June.

This was not a good enough reason for some brides as to why their dresses were unavailable. My manageress was physically threatened by more than one bride / mother of bride / fiance who thought she had single handedly blown up half of Manchester city centre in order to ruin their "special day"

SuperFlyHigh · 25/02/2015 09:30

It looks like she's American and showers for everything (baby, wedding etc) are commonplace there so the amount she had isn't unusual... The diatribe from Bridezilla again sounds normal for Bridezillas but a bit OTT in this case especially re the dead mother!

I've been a BM at an American wedding but this was before showers got fashionable (I think my friend only had a small bachelorette party) and my friend really didn't do the fuss.

when her DSis got married (also American) apparently there were showers but gifts were meant to be designer (think Dior bags) dictated by DSis's DM (not DSis), my friend got her a branded bag but not Dior, I got the lowdown on all the gossip there but DSis was surprisingly nice and calm (I know her a bit!).

When my DB got married a couple of people dropped out on the day (very rude) but also I think 1 or 2 the same week, having said that these were models/actors (not bragging they just know some!) and a trip to Somerset from London plus losing 1-2 days pay (it would be an overnight stay) was a bit much for them - still they could've planned in advance.

SuperFlyHigh · 25/02/2015 09:38

ha I just read about the stripper and H2B incident well that'll be the reason for the 1 year renewal then!

scarffiend · 25/02/2015 09:50

Does anyone fancy linking to the gluezilla thread?? I fancy a laugh!

SocksRock · 25/02/2015 09:51

I had two people drop out on the day of my wedding. One was having her appendix removed at the precise moment we said our vows and the other was having a baby 7 weeks early. Wonder what bridezilla would have made of that! Oh, and my DH mentioned the new baby in his speech, as most there were mutual friends so were delighted to hear all was well.

Spadequeen · 25/02/2015 10:03

I'm really pissed off moth my fb frie ds, none of them do anything g like this, god they're so damn boring!

Nolim · 25/02/2015 10:05
