to think 111 might report me to SS

My DD fell off the couch Sad shes 7 months and my OH had put her there to change her nappy and she just rolled off before her could do anything about it. Obv it wasn't the best idea putting her on the couch but he was with her and next to her the whole time, she was just too quick Sad we are both gutted. I was crying my eyes out an OH was close to tears as well. I rang 111 and explained everything and she went through all the questions and DD was fine not even a bump bless her.

Im just worried now in case they refer me to SS although I have nothing to hid it is still really worrying me Sad

No they won't.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 21/02/2015 17:33

No I can't see them doing that as it's happened to almost everyone. Is she your pfb?

Don't worry Flowers

KingJoffreyObviouslyWatchesHol · 21/02/2015 17:33

They won't.

Babies fall of things all of the time. Accidents happen. Every MNers baby has fallen off a bed or sofa.

Honestly.

Have a sweet cup of tea and think no more of it.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/02/2015 17:34

Huh? I worked for SS and DD has bashed her head when I should have been supervising better. Believe me, SS have better things to do than waste their time with loving parents who did something a bit stupid once and won't repeat it. We'd all get a SW if that was the referral procedure.

LiegeAndLief · 21/02/2015 17:35

If SS visited the houses of everyone who had accidentally let their baby fall off the sofa they would never be doing anything else.

My ds fell down an entire flight of stairs at 13 months old. We both cried a lot. EVERYONE has a story like this. It is fine.

Admittedly when my second child did something similar I was a lot less bothered about it....

SantasFavouriteHo · 21/02/2015 17:35

I'm fairly sure for a one-off accident like falling off the sofa (you'd be surprised at the number of babies who do it) and you sought medical help straight away and she's fine with no other injuries, that it's hugely unlikely ss will care in the slightest (in the nicest possible sense!)
Ds1 has done his fair share of bumps and bruises and a&e trips (ds2 done nothing yet, touch wood!) and nothing has ever been said to us

WD41 · 21/02/2015 17:35

Of course they won't. All babies roll off sofas or beds at some point

It's horrible for you but you did the right thing calling for advice and they will have heard it a million times before. Certainly no kind of flag for Ss

kitchentableagain · 21/02/2015 17:35

First baby?

These things happen All The Time. Children who need ss intervention do NOT have parents who call 111 in hysterics because they had a wee tumble. 111 know this.

You've had a horrible horrible shock, there's nothing worse than seeing your kid hurt. But nobody is going to report you for seeking appropriate medical advice following an accident.

Aeroflotgirl · 21/02/2015 17:36

I put my then newborn dd in the couch on her first day back from hospital, she fell off. I felt so bad, I was sleep deprived in pain and Haden't got a clue what I was doing. Eight years later she is fine Smile

monkeyfacegrace · 21/02/2015 17:37
Grin

This is your first child isn't it?!

I mean this in a friendly 'punch on the arm' way, but get a grip.

ALL babies fall off the sofa/changing table/bed. It's a right of passage.

You need to harden up Grin

HotSquashedBun · 21/02/2015 17:38

Please don't worry! They won't! It may be logged (I think all A and E visits are logged with SS not sure about 111) but they won't get in touch for something so minor! Most children probably fall off a bed or sofa at some point! Your DD is fine, try to forget about it.

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 21/02/2015 17:38

They will probably send to health visitor- only if they had precious worries about you would the health visited send it on.

Btw I'm a social worker - if we did get that referral and we had never heard of you before, we wouldn't do anything. (Oh and my baby has rolled off the bed before at a similar age even though I was right there )

sliceofsoup · 21/02/2015 17:38

No I don't think they will. I would guess that babies rolling off sofas is incredibly common. Especially at that age when they are beginning to roll over and trying to crawl.

EdSheeran · 21/02/2015 17:38

We've all been there, chill out. Flowers

SonnyJimBob · 21/02/2015 17:39

All 3 of mine have rolled, fallen or been wedged down the sides of things as babies (eek). It happens, and when you're a new mum it's easy to beat yourself up about these things, but please don't!

They'd have to call the SS on 99% of parents, if they did it every time a baby rolled off of something.

WhataMistakeaToMakea · 21/02/2015 17:40

Precious worries - previous worries. Didn't proof read !

QueenofLouisiana · 21/02/2015 17:40

I have a bed faller- he's nearly 10 and, apart from (perfectly normal) lack of any sort of common sense, he's fine.

Most children have done it at least once. They are remarkably resilient.

ghostyslovesheep · 21/02/2015 17:42

oh lovely Thanks it happens and no they wont report you to SS

DD1 fell back and banged her head on the marble fire surround - twice in a week, DD2 fell down stairs at 10 months (ex left stair gate open) - DD3 - well lets just say her baby sling was very low down ...same hight as the kitchen worktops Blush

welcome to parenthood related guilt xxxx

sadcasetoday · 21/02/2015 17:42

You poor thing.
I am about the only person I know who has never had this happen. This is sheer good luck. I bet they get 5 calls a day like yours, at a bare minimum.
Deep breath, onwards and upwards! They have hard heads for a reason.

Barbarella · 21/02/2015 17:42

They won't report you, it'll be fine, it's a very common thing to happen

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/02/2015 17:43

No they won't. At 9 months DD fell off her changing table on to her head, 111 said to go to A&E. She was absolutely fine and the Dr told us to go home and have a stiff drink! No referral to SS

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 21/02/2015 17:44

A friend said the HV might call to check she was ok as they tend to after A&E visits for babies but we never heard from them.

cashewnutty · 21/02/2015 17:44

Social worker here. Relax - we are not coming round to snatch your baby. Accidents happen all the time.

Mine fell down the stairs at 10 months when i left her unattended in the top landing with no stair gate! I cried like a loon on the phone to the GP and had her checked out in hospital. Then i brought her home and bought a stair gate! No SW came near.

RandomNPC · 21/02/2015 17:49

I used to work at NHS Direct, the forerunner of 111. We used to be instructed to watch out for babies who had 'rolled' off something under a certain age, as they weren't capable of it. I can't remember the age right now. We used to do a lot of CP referrals HOWEVER unless we thought there was a imminent danger, we would have to discuss the referral with the caller. If there was any doubt, we'd advise going to A&E so that they could be checked, and then we'd phone the department to make sure they had attended. The vast majority of calls about babies were not referred, of course. Kids have a tendency to bounce, luckily, as they are always falling off things, tripping over things, or falling down stairs.
