to think 111 might report me to SS

My DD fell off the couch Sad shes 7 months and my OH had put her there to change her nappy and she just rolled off before her could do anything about it. Obv it wasn't the best idea putting her on the couch but he was with her and next to her the whole time, she was just too quick Sad we are both gutted. I was crying my eyes out an OH was close to tears as well. I rang 111 and explained everything and she went through all the questions and DD was fine not even a bump bless her.

Im just worried now in case they refer me to SS although I have nothing to hid it is still really worrying me Sad

I once walked through a doorway carrying DS and smacked his head on the doorframe. A&E.

He once sneezed and the force of it propelled him off the bed. A&E.

He rolled down a flight of curved stairs. A&E.

Managed to get the lid off a bottle of pills and ate one. A&E.

Fell off a bench onto his head. A&E.

Never heard a peep from an HV or SS.

CharleyFarleyy · 21/02/2015 17:52

Thank you all so much, I honestly didn't really it was so common.

Yes she is PFB Smile Also being a young mum I seem to worry a lot about If I am seen as a good mum and stuff like that.

thank you all again! Thanks

Charley it will seem that your babies mission in life is to scare the bejaysus out of you. They usually succeed. Many a night spent in A&E with a child that turned out to be just badly bruised.

AnyFucker · 21/02/2015 18:00

You are a good mum

TheSitChewAceChien · 21/02/2015 18:06

I had to take DS to a&e a few weeks ago after he fell over onto his head.
The nurse there mentioned that her baby had recently rolled off the bed and she'd had to take her to be checked over.

It happens so, so often! No one will be reporting you for anything.

Cake Flowers Hope you're both ok now.

TheSitChewAceChien · 21/02/2015 18:08

DS is 8, fell over over at school. Somehow cut that from my post!

TwoOddSocks · 21/02/2015 18:14

I only know one person who was reported to SS for accidents around the home. Within the space of about a week she'd taken one kid to the GP because she'd accidentally burnt her bum with boiling water (DD was on the kitchen work top naked and mum dropped the full kettle on the other side of the kitchen work surface and she got burnt). Same DD also fell down the stairs (she'd crawled off before mum had noticed). Her DS had also gone to the GP a few months before because he had eaten his own poo (he poor on the floor and looking at it thought it was chocolate so decided to try some) not sure if that factored into the referral though.

They did come round to the house and just advised her to be more careful and gave specific advice about safety then had no further contact. (She's a great if occasionally careless mum so this was totally appropriate). No harm done.

Grumpyoldblonde · 21/02/2015 18:23

When my daughter was just a couple of days old, I nodded off on the sofa as I was so exhausted, just for a moment or two and woke to see her sliding out of my arms headfirst towards the floor, I was so upset with myself, convinced I must have caused lasting damage but 11 years later she is just fine, we all do these things and I am often amazed anyone actually makes it to adulthood with all the hazards and perils around, you and your lovely baby will be just fine.

x2boys · 21/02/2015 18:29

Ds1 fell head first out of his car seat when he was about a week old we took him immediately to A and E he's fine ! They informed the health visitor but that was it.

Chessie00 · 21/02/2015 18:29

When ds1 was a few days old I put him into his bouncer and clipped the seat part closed.
He started screaming like I'd not heared him scream and after 30 seconds of frantically checking him I realised I'd clipped the SKIN on his arm into the bouncer. I cried for hours. He had a huge purple bruise the entire width of him arm.

ThreeFrazzledFandangos · 21/02/2015 18:35

DS launched himself out of his Moses basket at 10 weeks. He flipped it over lengthways and slid down the bedroom door. He was on a rocking stand and flipped himself with momentum I think.

The health visitor called to follow up after that one as they said he physically couldn't have done that and it must have raised some concerns.

Nothing else happened though. Just a quick call where I explained what happened and they went away.

Chessie00 · 21/02/2015 18:36

I once walked through a doorway carrying DS and smacked his head on the doorframe

This reminded me of two years ago when Dh had ds2 on his shoulders. We were in a service station and he casually strolled into a WHSmith without thinking of ds and completely face planted ds2 against the wall because the entrance was so low does it make me a bad mother to admit I laughed? Once I knew he was ok of course

ClumsyParents · 21/02/2015 18:37

I let go of my DS' pram and he rolled into a fishing lake and was submerged in water. Me and a fisherman jumped in to drag him and the pushchair out. Took him to the doctor and they never informed SS. I think you'll be fine with a roll off the sofa Grin

Don't worry, I think every parent has a mishap with their baby. Glad you little one is OK.

monkeysaymoo · 21/02/2015 18:39

Bless you OP. The funny thing is that despite being horrified and traumatised when your PFB falls of a sofa or bed for the first time you still manage to do it again with all your subsequent children!

EatDessertFirst · 21/02/2015 18:42

Welcome to the parenting pitfall club!! Have a Wine to get over the horrible shock.

DD (now 6 and in perfect health!) rolled off the sofa at 10 month and put both her front teeth right throigh her lip. Accidents happen. Your PFB will be fine.

CarbeDiem · 21/02/2015 18:44

I dislocated my, then baby, ds3's arm/shoulder because I had to yank him up when he started choking on vomit.
The hospital did obviously ask questions but no ss. My other 2 ds's were quite regular visitors to A&E too :)

It happens to us all OP. It may be the first bump your PFB has had but it certainly won't be the last.
Don't stress yourself about it. Flowers

AlmaMartyr · 21/02/2015 18:48

Oh bless you, you'll be fine. You are a good mum, accidents happen. Both my DCs fell off the bed as babies and are totally fine. DD is terribly accident prone (two general anaesthetics this week to fix her nose after a nasty fall Shock) and we've never had a problem. DS is much less accident prone thank goodness!

Quiero · 21/02/2015 18:52

Welcome to the club Charley sorry we must have forgot to tell you that we are all totally incompetent Grin

Our A&E give children teddy bears when they go in. We have a large collection of them.

I bet you are a great mum!

CharleyFarleyy · 21/02/2015 18:58

I can see that I was getting myself a bit worked up now that the shock has wore off and you've all made me feel a lot better! im not worlds worst mum afterall!

feeling a lot calmer now, DD is asleep now, will keep checking on her.

had a follow up call from a GP now, he didn't seem worried and told me what to look out for (incase of concussion etc) so im feeling a lot better after that Smile

Something similar-but a lot worse and I still couldn't even type it-happened to me and the hospital did contact my hv who rang the following day. I felt awful-at that point was still doing mental re-runs of the whole thing-but she was so kind and said she knew baby was ok but was checking that I was. She reassured me saying it was so common and told me a much worse story to make me feel better-a couple were humming and hawing about lifting baby in or bringing in car seat on return from hospital, decided on car seat and thud, baby fell on ground from their jeep because somewhere in the middle of it all she'd been unstrapped. She was fine they fall relaxed. Please don't feel awful. In a few weeks you will forget it.

StockingFullOfCoal · 21/02/2015 19:00

This happened to my then 9 month old. She flung herself off the sofa and hit our fireplace which resulted in an ambulance being called and her eyebrow needing to be glued. I also was sat right next to her and have never forgiven myself. There's been no lasting damage and the staff at a&e were brilliant. SS weren't called. Flowers I've been to a&e more times with her - she's now 4 - than I have any of my other 2 kids combined. She's just clumsy and unlucky - exactly like I am.

NapoleonsNose · 21/02/2015 19:00

DS2 had broken both legs by the age of 2. First time at 11 months he crawled off and fell down my mum's stairs. Second time at just over 2, I fell down the steps getting off a bus and fell on him. He's now 15 and we never heard a peep from either HV or SS. Seriously though, accidents happen and it will be fine.

OP: All parents are incompetent, especially with their first child and more often than not with their second and third.

I have dropped DS on his head more than once [he's fine], and some of the other posters examples sound horribly familiar.

Pain is nature's way of telling us what's stupid.

Babies/ under-two are more spongy and resilient than you think, but its best to get things checked out.

It's the lousy parents that don't panic, that don't go to A&E after baby took a one foot plummet onto a carpeted floor, that HV and SS are after.

SoleSource · 21/02/2015 19:31

No they won't. You did nothing wrong.
