to think 111 might report me to SS

My DD fell off the couch Sad shes 7 months and my OH had put her there to change her nappy and she just rolled off before her could do anything about it. Obv it wasn't the best idea putting her on the couch but he was with her and next to her the whole time, she was just too quick Sad we are both gutted. I was crying my eyes out an OH was close to tears as well. I rang 111 and explained everything and she went through all the questions and DD was fine not even a bump bless her.

Im just worried now in case they refer me to SS although I have nothing to hid it is still really worrying me Sad

Don't worry, they didn't refer me when DD needed stitches in her head and when asked she even told them 'Mummy did it' Shock. (She tripped over my foot while messing about.)

My DH was putting newborn PFB into their car seat in the back seat of car...on their very first outing after coming home from hospital. Whilst putting her in, he banged her head on the door frame. We were terrified, she was fine.

I think every single parent has a story like this. Every single one. My mum says "god gives you a free one first" - I think she means it's a warning so you don't repeat it. But I'm not really sure Smile

Please don't worry. The fact you are concerned shows you are being a responsible parent. Accidents happen.

For my DCs rolling off the bed for the first time was a rite of passage. It was a bit like 'Hey DH, baby windchime just rolled off the bed haha'. They bounce. It is fine. Breathe.

bluelamp · 21/02/2015 20:00

Just to warn you some things are an immediate referral, we were referred after I noticed DS's tongue was purple (like a bruise) when he was having his vaccinations. The HV referred us to paeds but also said we'd immediately have to speak to a SW because bruises to babies were immediate referrals. The SW was very nice, as was the doctor who was more concerned about a blood clotting disorder (thankfully DS was fine).

I think they do exercise some judgement, we've had phonecalls from the HV after DS has been to OOO because of an infection, but not when his sisters have pulled his elbow (twice!) which I would have thought was more concerning.

Accidents do happen , but your attitude is a bit Hmm babies don't bounce and can sustain painful and/or serious injury.

UterusUterusGhali · 21/02/2015 20:17

Oh bless you.

They all do it.
It's a well known fact that they all learn to roll whilst on something high.
A sofa isn't even high!

You'll all be just fine. :)

BramwellBrown · 21/02/2015 20:28

Flowers OP I really wouldn't worry, you're doing pretty well to have got to 7 months before DD had her first bump.

Don't let being a young mum make you feel like you have something to prove either, I used to feel everyone was judging me with my pfb because I was very young (15) until I realised all new mum's are learning as they go along no matter how old they are.

glidingpig · 21/02/2015 20:35

Even when DD had her third A&E visit in eighteen months (first time she stuck a pea up her nose, second time she cracked a bone in her arm falling over on the BED fgs, third time she knocked coffee over herself), all anyone did was send the HV round to "have a talk about safety". The HV turned up, said ohhh, I remember you guys, I'm not worried about you, then chucked DD under the chin and left.

Most babies fall off something at some point. You have taken care of her and she's OK. It's fine. Promise.

realgonekid84 · 21/02/2015 21:21

O desar my 3dc would have been taken away by now. 2 a and e visits due to silly bumps on the head. both ok and no treatment required. Didn't even get a call from hv.

fakenamefornow · 21/02/2015 21:32

I think if I was a GP and you showed up with a baby that had fallen off a couch like this I'd be more worried about mum than baby it wouldn't even cross my mind that baby might not be safe with her.

restie · 21/02/2015 21:37

Definitely a rite of passage....my little one fell off the bed at around 5/6 mths.

When he was 14 mths and with my parents, he bashed his head on a corner of a table, requiring his head to be glued - I didn't hear anything from SS or HV.

It's all very unpleasant at the time though.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 21/02/2015 22:36

With parenting & childcare, today's catastrophe is next month's anecdote.

Always best if you can get elder brother or sister to have children, then you have a metric of incompetence you can measure yourself against.

SistersOfPercy · 22/02/2015 00:15

Charley, half of ds's childhood was already in a&e. I actually dropped him on his head before his first birthday.
Having a cactus removed from his foot in boxing day was another highlight and if course not forgetting the broken ankles - both of them within 6 weeks.

Babies don't bounce but they are tougher than you think. It's us that do the worrying.

Flowers

And for the record, my little accident prone nightmare turned 22 yesterday. SS were never involved Grin

Charlie. If that were the case and SS were going to take your baby, then they'd be taking everyone's baby because everyone's baby had fallen at some point.
Accidents happen. That's why they're accidents.

auntynorm · 23/02/2015 22:36

111 might log it with their own safe guarding department depending on their local protocol but it would be to fulfil their own obligations. The safe guarding departments would then decide if to refer to ss amd then ss would decide if a visit was necessary. But it would just be to cover their backs
