Threading lady getting a bit personal

thereisnocheese · 19/02/2015 22:24

It's my birthday on Sunday, and was out with my five month old baby today and decided to get my eyebrows threaded as I do not get time to do that sort of thing anymore. She did a great job of my eyebrows then said so do you want me to do your upper lip?! WTF, i thought, I haven't got a tache. DH agrees and also GBF (Gay Best Friend) - AIBU to want to complain to this threading lady???

Yeah, it's like the 'buy the bar of chocolate for £1' in WHSmiths. I got mine threaded once, hurt like hell. The lady in the chair beside me was getting her neck threaded though Shock
I mean please, little booth in the middle of a shopping centre?!

worksallhours · 20/02/2015 11:31

OP, ignore anything your DH or BF says when it comes to matters such as this. Check the situation yourself with a mirror in full sunlight.

My threading lady is from another culture where they are fairly blunt about these matters, and I am jolly glad she is. My hormones during my first pregnancy left me with blonde sideburns that came down to my jawline ... and I hadn't noticed Sad. I was totally mortified when she pointed them out the hair was so long that it made me really upset and asked DH why he hadn't told me.

He just hadn't noticed. Nor had he noticed the big black hair growing out of my neck.

He is now under strict instructions to look specifically for these things and notify me in an "intervention".

its odd the things we take offence at - i've never taken offence at being offered lash extensions (what are you trying to say there, my eyelashes are too short?)

HellKitty · 20/02/2015 11:34

Madrigals, my last dentist asked if I wanted Botox!!! Confused

SoonToBeMrsB · 20/02/2015 11:34

The first time I got my eyebrows threaded the woman asked if I wanted my top lip done. I was so taken aback I just went along with it and my top lip was covered in tiny spots that turned into a hideous scaly rash. I looked like the joker for two weeks Hmm

I'll just stick with my little blonde tache now, thanks.

HoldenCaulfield80 · 20/02/2015 11:38

I get asked that every time I get my eyebrows threaded. I'm pretty sure I don't have a hairy lip so assume it's just a standard thing they ask. Besides which, I'm secure enough in my own body (and face) to be able to laugh it off and not worry about it. I'd get over it if I were you.

ErinBlockerBitch · 20/02/2015 11:40

They ask everyone, benefit offered me a free moustache removal as part of a promotion. I said no.

rosepetalsoup · 20/02/2015 11:49

Yes don't worry - it's just like when you get your bikini line done and they ask if you want the bit on your tummy waxed too. There is a bit of hair there, on everyone.

Behooven · 20/02/2015 11:49

madrigal
My dentist recently suggested Botox when I was in for check up!
I've been worrying about my liny face ever since

pinkrocker · 20/02/2015 11:50

Here's a question. The lady who waxed my tash isn't keen on ladies doing it too often. She says it leads to loss of muscle definition and I'd get a flabby top lip !Grin
I said does that apply to eyebrows as well and she shrugged, smiled and said "they'll sag of their own accord! "

thereisnocheese · 20/02/2015 13:01

Well, I guess that the question is pretty common then so yes I am being unreasonable. I saw my husband and my friend last night which is why I mentioned that I had another two pairs of eyes checking the tache or non tache as I like to think of it. Both are very straight talking so I do trust that I'm not secretly sporting a mouser. Hallelujah

If you don't have a noticeable 'tash then there is no problem. She was doing her job.

EternalBeauPlate · 20/02/2015 13:17

Maybe threading is addictive once you start doing it. Like power hosing the garden or picking woodchip wall paper chips and she just wants to do more.

thereisnocheese · 20/02/2015 13:35

She could have done the one hair we did find under my chin!!!

GlitteryLipgloss1 · 20/02/2015 19:57

your lucky you just have one. I have at least 13 plucked out! Wink

chanie44 · 20/02/2015 20:08

I'm guessing the person who threaded you was Indian?

I get mine threaded in Indian ran salons and they always comment on my facial hair. My Indian friend they can be very direct, but harmless. I just ignore it now.

SpringBreaker · 20/02/2015 20:11

I dont have any noticeable hair there either but they still ask when I get my eyebrows done..

LittleMilkNoSugar · 20/02/2015 20:52

Lady threading my eyebrows once asked me when my baby was due. My youngest is 4 and there ain't no baby imminent. I was so taken aback I INVENTED a baby, who was apparently 6 months old and that I was struggling to lose the baby weight blah blab BLAH!

Why oh why oh why???

TinyTearsFirstLove · 20/02/2015 20:57

Happened to me too. Was mildly offended at first then realised she was talking rubbish. I knew I had no obviously visible hair there. However, it is the reason that I will never go back there again as I realised that they were trying to con me Smile

MissCalamity · 20/02/2015 21:43

Yes, I got asked this last time I got my eyebrows threaded & at first I was a little put out as I feel I don't have any visible upper lip hair
I was taken aback the time prior to that when a different lady told me I needed a facial to get rid of all the spots on my face Shock if a facial can get rid of these babies then bring it on....!

Sapat · 20/02/2015 21:54

They always do that. Mine also asks if you want your forehead, cheek and chin done. And then she suggests you have eyelashes and eyebrows tinted. And then your arms threaded. Badically the list is endless and they will run through it.

The upper lip really hurts, prepare the tissues and the germolene if you are tempted.

wewishyou · 20/02/2015 22:08

GBF is ridiculous, don't use that term (and don't define people by their colour or sexuality)

If you don't have a stach, just be happy and move on and never say GBF again ever

HappydaysArehere · 20/02/2015 22:12

Had eyebrows threaded once and red lumps appeared which lasted a few days and drove me mad. Never chanced it again.

member · 20/02/2015 22:30

I think I must resemble Chewbacca - I pluck obvious dark hairs out in the case of my chin, it's like painting the Forth Bridge but I know that I have developed more light downy hair too. this thread isn't encouraging me to ask a third party to remove it tbh
