The thing seems really expensive and packed with sugars.

Is it worth it?

I was sceptical. DD (4)'s immune system took an absolute hammering before xmas and I've had her on a winter dose of sambucol since. It's amazing stuff. She has a slight cough at the moment from a visit to see family hundreds of miles away, but hasn't caught one of the colds that's plagued her local friends.

DisappointedOne · 17/02/2015 15:08

I buy it on 3 for 2 at boots, which helps with the cost. i'd rather she had sugared things than those with artificial sweeteners. She has it before brushing teeth anyway.

MsMarshmallow · 17/02/2015 15:09

but does it really work?

Well obviously I have no control variable because I only have the one child. But it appears to have made a huge difference to her. I did do an evidence sweep before buying and found some pretty convincing evidence.

Why not try it and see?

shumway · 17/02/2015 15:14

My mum calls it sambuca. Goes in the health food shop and asks for sambuca.

DidoTheDodo · 17/02/2015 15:16

Sambuca is elderberries, isn't it?
Drink more elderberry gin.

Watching this thread with interest as we have just started using it!

DisappointedOne · 17/02/2015 15:19

It's a particular kind of elderberry.

MsMarshmallow · 17/02/2015 16:40

Thank you Disappointed, it seems amazing! Just ordered a bottle, hopefully it will put an end to little one's long series of colds this winter!

These two studies are really small and one was funded by Sambucol.

They are also more than 10 years old, which is a lot for preliminary work, time enough to have had an independent, larger study report if it is repeatable?

NoImSpartacus · 17/02/2015 17:30

I take Sambucol all through the winter and I've (touch wood) not caught any of the unusual amount of nasty bugs and viruses it seems everyone but me has had at work and on the Central Line.

Will probably wake up with the 'flu tomo Grin
