They're benefit bashing for votes.
They are MP's who for the main part have had a privileged upbringing. Why can't they talk about their plans for the UK's defence in light of ISIS and the Ukraine? Why don't they talk about foreign policy and/or their plans for the EU? Why don't they speak up on green issues? Why don't they discuss immigration levels or London house prices? Or even patiently explaining that benefits aren't that large a portion of expense.

Why, dear god, with their education do they lack empathy towards people already living on the lowest levels of income and have no innovative suggestions to make? Clearly original thought and critical thinking wasn't on their curriculum.

TheCat I assume the 3270 civil servants count a client of mine as one of their success stories? She was overpaid £140 IS in Feb last year despite not claiming WTC until the end of March and received a threatening letter saying that she wouldn't be prosecuted for the overpayment - this time.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/02/2015 18:16

There are 3,270 civil servants employed to pursue £1.27 billion of benefit fraud.

Of which a significant amount is DWP mistakes because they lump the figures for fraud and their mistakes together.

deeedeee · 15/02/2015 18:26

They have their voters for fools.

They haven't sorted out any economic mess, they've used it to promote their own ideology of protecting the rich and taking prom the poor in the guise of "tough choices"

and while I'm at it how exactly is the clause instructing government to 'maximise the extraction of petroleum' in the Infrastructure Act, passed last week, helping with Climate Change?

lying horrible party. i don't know how anyone could vote for them. fools . or worse, greedy self protecting fools

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 15/02/2015 20:20

Sounds unusually lenient and civilized of them...[ugh!]

I would sooner hack off my arm with a rusty potato peeler than work for any branch of DWP

Of which a significant amount is DWP mistakes Dawndonnaagain

'Benefit fraud' is one of those Daily Mail/Express dogwhistle phrases, which describes a threat to the social fabric and concept of fairness - which actually barely exists.

bizmum1 · 15/02/2015 20:59

The Labour Party crashed the car when they were in power. Why would anyone want to give them back the keys?

YouKnowNothinJonSnow · 15/02/2015 21:09

Because someone has to get the nasty party out bizmum1.

bizmum1 · 15/02/2015 21:20

Careful what you wish for YouKnow - the state the country under Labour was pretty nasty

Dawndonnaagain · 15/02/2015 21:24

Not as nasty as it is now, bizmum

bizmum1 · 15/02/2015 21:34

Disagree there Dawn

Dawndonnaagain · 15/02/2015 21:37

I have lost money and support and respite care under this government, Bizmum, and I'm not the only one. People are dying due to dwp decisions, didn't happen to quite the same extent under the last government.

saintlyjimjams · 15/02/2015 22:11

I thought the last labour government were awful, but ime if you are disabled you were in much safer hands with them than this current government. I can't quite believe how awful things are now, and fear how bad they will get if further cuts come in next year. The disabled are bearing the brunt of them - I honestly think people have no idea how bad it is. The Tories promised that they would tighten up finances meaning they coukd support those with severe disabilities better - not from where I'm sitting.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/02/2015 22:15

Don't think this happened under the last Labour Government, either

I'm not even voting Labour!

ihatethecold · 16/02/2015 07:26

Who the hell do I vote for.
I find this very worrying.
I can't align myself to any of them!

gamerchick · 16/02/2015 08:02

Exactly, who do we vote for? I've never not wanted to vote at all before. Everyone I know who feels the same are voting ukip. Not because they have looked into ukip but just think it's time for a complete change because you can't believe a word any of the old lot say.

Scary shit.

wouldliketoknow2 · 16/02/2015 08:11

Yes me too ihatethecold. Have no idea who to vote for either. I live in a Liberal / Labour marginal area but am considering voting Green which is probably completely pointless Confused?

ihatethecold · 16/02/2015 08:12

I wouldn't go as far as voting for UKIP!
Confused

gamerchick · 16/02/2015 09:05

No me neither.

Still the question hangs of who.

OnlyLovers · 16/02/2015 09:24

I don't know who the hell to vote for either, but my DP has a license to kill me if I ever vote UKIP. Just as elitist, cruel and deluded as the Tories but with extra xenophobia and hypocrisy.

I guess for me Labour are the default choice. I can't argue with a lot of their policies. I don't exactly thrill at the idea of voting for them though. Which is sad.

Sallyingforth · 16/02/2015 10:04

Everyone I know who feels the same are voting ukip.

I've met people like that too. It really worries me that UKIP could end up holding the balance of power, just because we are all disgusted with the other parties. But this would be a classic case of 'out of the frying pan'.

They have no experience of government and just want to put their disgusting policies into effect. Some of their candidates have been shown up for their true extremist nature. We should all do our best to try and persuade people not to make such a terrible mistake.

wouldliketoknow2 · 16/02/2015 11:58

Why is UKIP seen as the default choice for disgruntled voters and not the Green Party - genuine question?

wouldliketoknow2 · 16/02/2015 11:59

(Or rather why do so many disgruntled voters seem to be leaning towards UKIP?)

vickibee · 16/02/2015 12:07

I think you need capitalism with a social conscience. It it the responsibilty of everyone to care for the disadvantaged, this leads to a better society overall. We do need entrpreneurs otherwise the country would stagnate, there has to be a balance

I read yeaterday IDS is considering lmiting CB to two children only.

OnlyLovers · 16/02/2015 12:11

would, UKIP have the advantage of a clever leader who knows how to get himself and his party in the press. I mean, I loathe the man, or at least what he stands for, but I have to take my hat off to him with regard to his PR skills.

Also, UKIP play on people's fears and insecurities –too many immigrants, too many people with 'foreign' cultures threatening 'British indigenous culture' (whatever that is), not enough jobs ...

I'd vote Green but I'd fear it was a wasted vote. If we had proportional representation I'd vote for them in a heartbeat.

vickibee · 16/02/2015 12:12

A monkey could wear a red rosette in our constituency and get voted in with a huge majority, any vote is a wasted vote

aurorablues · 16/02/2015 12:26

To be honest, i think the benefit bashing by the Tories will be their downfall....Again.

When you think of the amount of people in receipt of some kind of benefit/payment. Single Mothers and Fathers employed and unemployed, low income families employed and unemployed, working families who only receive CB, Disabled/Chronic illness employed or unemployed, everyone on zero hour contracts that have to get thier meagre wages topped up by benefits, Job Seekers whom are having an incredibly hard time trying to find work, Families of Disabled Children receiveing money so their Children can partake in structured and safe activities etc etc etc

All of those people amounts to quite a large portion of the voting demographic.

I don't know the official figures, but i believe there are a lot of people in this Country receiving some sort of payment from the government.

The Tories pretty much want to dismantle, cap, cut and change the rules and regulations on it all, including pensions in the latter.

They are pissing off a lot of people, just by benefit bashing.

And that's before you include the systematic dismantling of what is left of our public sector and selling it off to the highest bidder and pretty much everything else the Tories stand for.
