AIBU to really dislike the Tories right now?

They're benefit bashing for votes.
They are MP's who for the main part have had a privileged upbringing. Why can't they talk about their plans for the UK's defence in light of ISIS and the Ukraine? Why don't they talk about foreign policy and/or their plans for the EU? Why don't they speak up on green issues? Why don't they discuss immigration levels or London house prices? Or even patiently explaining that benefits aren't that large a portion of expense.

Why, dear god, with their education do they lack empathy towards people already living on the lowest levels of income and have no innovative suggestions to make? Clearly original thought and critical thinking wasn't on their curriculum.

Benefit bashing to get more votes. Not that I've got any wild ideas of voting for the Tories but picking on the poor needy often defencless and down trodden would certainly not sway it for me!

machair · 15/02/2015 14:05

The economy was in not a bad state when Tony Blair first became Prime Minister. Then Gordon Brown sold off our gold at a rock bottom price, handed power over to the banks, TB entered into an illegal war (and look where it has got us)...... And as for Ed Milliand and Balls, oh dear

Figmentofmyimagination · 15/02/2015 14:07

Hey AMummy - unless you have been living on a distant planet since 2010, it's not really possible to use the words "liberal" and "vote Tory" in the same sentence.

I fail to see the relevance of your working class background.

Dawndonnaagain · 15/02/2015 14:12

AMummy I get 65 quid a week for looking after three disabled people and no respite care. I hope you're happy voting for the bastards that did this to me.
Oh, and most of that 65 quid is taken off other benefits.

Tanith · 15/02/2015 14:19

The horrific suicide of pensioner Malcolm Burge, whose housing benefit had been cut and was being chased for arrears of £800, has convinced me.
Especially when, in the same week, we hear that the property tycoon Paul Bloomfield was not prosecuted despite evading tax for 24 years!

Compare and contrast. This Government has done nothing to "fix the mess" except hound the poorest and most vulnerable.

I'm also pretty tired of hearing about that gold-reserve sale that the Conservative voters keep harping on about. The Thatcher Government sold off our oil, our railways, our water, our gas, our electricity, our telecommunications - they sold off our country and the current lot tried to do the same with what was left (our mail, our forests, our NHS, our schools).

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 15/02/2015 14:19

The economy was not in a bad state when Tony Blair first became Prime Minister.

{Laughs bitterly and sarcastically}

Maybe you should ask yourself why the Tories lost so badly in 1997?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/02/2015 14:34

YY. Tanith.
They're alright harrasing the poor disabled and unemployed. Not so tough when it comes to bankers who got us into this mess and billionaire tax evaders are they, but that's a bully for you.
Oh and A mummy I knew someone like smug closed minded got off people struggling. Oh but karma paid him a visit in the form of unemployment and hardship. Chances are she's watching you too!.
I also knew someone who could not get a break she wasn't lazy. Just unfortunate. Not every falls on their feet or falls in to a sewage pit and come up dripping in gold! However things are very different now. She has a well paid job, so you see from these 2 stories the wheel of fortune moves all the time!

Goodbetterbest · 15/02/2015 14:40

They have always been atrocious thundercunts.

It's not a new thing.

OnlyLovers · 15/02/2015 14:43

Just wanted to congratulate Good for use of the phrase 'atrocious thundercunts.'

Grin
Goodbetterbest · 15/02/2015 14:44

Actually Clegg is the most atrocious thundercunt for getting into bed with the Tories and making things worse.

OnlyLovers · 15/02/2015 14:47

Yes, and going by his slapped-arse face in most photos doesn't he know it?

I hope it haunts him for the rest of his days, the spineless fecker.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 15/02/2015 14:49

That Clegg had everyone fooled didn't he. Making out he was for the poor, then jumping straight into bed with Cameron.
Nothing down at all for the Lib Dems now after such a betrayal to their voters

expatinscotland · 15/02/2015 14:53

Even Thatcher wouldn't sell off Royal Mail. This government has. Guess who benefited the most out of it?

Watch The Super Rich and Us, the BBC show and C4's Dispatched, 'Low Pay Britain'.

Open your eyes.

These people are a shower of shite.

GatoradeMeBitch · 15/02/2015 15:04

Who needs fox hunting when the Tories can get their jollies chasing down the most vulnerable people in the country for sport? Tally ho!

All I'd say to smug Tory voters, is make damn sure you're bulletproof. I've lived long enough to see people who thought they (and their children and their grandchildren) were financially secure for life, only to suddenly have the rug whipped away from underneath them. If that ever happens to you, I expect you will want relatively compassionate people making the decisions about your living situation, not this current lot and their hatred of the poor.

OnlyLovers · 15/02/2015 15:12

Gatorade, yes, that's what really puzzles me about right-wingers. This 'us and them' mindset. Like there are people who need the state and people who don't, end of. Like they could never suddenly lose their job/become disabled, or need any kind of state support in any way.

Coyoacan · 15/02/2015 17:05

So true and anytime anyone complains about the situation of the most vulnerable in our society they call it "the politics of envy".

nippiesweetie · 15/02/2015 17:06

Meditrina If they had won the Syrian vote then we would have been allies of Isis, not fighting against them.

Samcro · 15/02/2015 17:16

Dawndonnaagain and that £65 is taxable too.
joke isn't it

HelenaDove · 15/02/2015 17:49

Tories have always been like this.

And it was Thatcher who deregulated the banks.

HelenaDove · 15/02/2015 17:54

Heres something that got fuck all news coverage this week.

www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1skkpj6

ArabellaStrange · 15/02/2015 18:03

Benefits can be taxed? That is fucking awful. And sixty five pounds a week to look after three people? That takes the piss.
I want to live in a world where the people with the deeper pockets have to reach further. Even if that included myself. I want to live in a world where education is about getting brains working, not just somewhere where children can be sent, in order for their parents to work menial jobs that furnish some rich bugger with more money.
Where everyone has a home that is a place of security and comfort.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 15/02/2015 18:05

I am embarrassed - actually make that mortified or disgusted - to live in the 7th richest country in the world and yet have to sign referrals to send people to food banks.

Did anyone see IDS on Andrew Marr this morning? IDS said that UC was fully rolled out across the NW. It absolutely, undeniably is not. Existing claimants have not been moved onto UC and lone parents making new claims are only eligible for UC in a few areas. He also alleged that he had saved money with his UC scheme by only spending £1.8bn on the scheme so far when it could have been £2.4bn. Well, the last figures were that max £1.7bn would be spent so that's £100m extra down the swannee and, newsflash, blowing £1.8bn when you could have spent £2.4bn is not a saving of £0.6bn, it's still wasting £1.8bn.

TheCatAteMyTaxReturn · 15/02/2015 18:06

There are 3,270 civil servants employed to pursue £1.27 billion of benefit fraud.

The number of civil servants employed to pursue £70 billion of illegal tax evasion?

AllThePrettySeahorses · 15/02/2015 18:09

helena WTF is that? Horrific! And IDS lied that nobody gets sanctioned! Those were his words and it'll be on iplayer, youtube and stuff. Yet he wants people who work on low wages to be punished for what? For working harder than he could believe is possible doing low paid and bloody essential jobs.
